As someone whose primary system is Xbox, and who doesn’t have a ps console, I got the ps plus premium membership to stream some of Sonys big games to my pc. I will say it’s been great playing cloud so far. I’ve played injustice (which surprisingly worked adequately!) and Spider-Man, along with a classic love of mine, Star Wars Bounty Hunter. The only thing I wish it had on the cloud streaming was a search option, and/or a quick reference list. The website says supposedly I can play uncharted the Nathan drake collection, but it turns out that’s only for download on console as there is no streaming option. I ran into this issue with a couple other games as well. But still, it’s a solid opportunity to dip into an ecosystem in the same way I understand many Sony first gamers are doing as they dip into GamePass with a month membership here and there.
I wonder if someone here could help me out. I don’t have a PS but I got PS Plus Premium and have been streaming to my PC. It’s worked pretty well so far. But I REALLY am in the mood for the original Uncharted games. According to the website the Nathan Drake Collection is part of the service, but I don’t see it anywhere on the PC streaming app. I only see UC4 and LL. Are not all games available for streaming?
Back when I had a ps3 I played through the original GOW remaster but got bored partway through 2. It became too repetitive. However, the other day I signed up for PlayStation plus premium and saw the latest God of War is on there. Would you guys recommend it for a person who wasn’t all that into the originals?
@Milktastrophe thank you! I appreciate the response! I’m hoping if I mainly do the single player games I miss, and not worry too much about having super low latency input, then I’ll be okay. But I’ll try the trial and see. Thanks again!
I typically hang out at purexbox (don’t have a ps console) but I was wondering if somebody here could help me out. I do miss playing uncharted and ratchet and clank. I saw that the uncharted collection and the old ratchet games are in one of these packages. If I get the membership for streaming, are “all” games available to stream or just certain ones? I’m just curious if I could play them on my pc.
Edit: Plus I really miss Star Wars Bounty Hunter. Played that a ton back in the day on my GameCube.
Plus, I swear every time I watch a Sony conference that has multiplats they deliberately leave it ambiguous on where it’s coming to so that people associate the game with PlayStation, even if we find out it is multiplat later. This and the timed exclusives thing are both on the same level as this embargo to me.
@Col_McCafferty I’m typically one of those clowns but this time I’ve been pretty silent. For a reason. I liked Bethesda because of the variety of games it brought and allowed for gp to grow. This one is way more expensive and I’m not sure how to feel.
That being said has anyone considered that Tencent was pursuing Activision? As a company it was declining anyway with a hyper focus on call of duty and little else to appease shareholders (absorbing studios that made Tony Hawk and others into call of duty support roles). Also if someone like Tencent was going after them then this might be the better alternative. I know I’ll get push back for this. But that’s the only way I see this as a net positive - freedom to bring back the variety once offered by Activision and IF there was another purchase threat we aren’t seeing.
@middyone My overall point wasn’t that Sony “only offers 3rd person narratives”. But I also don’t think that other genres within Sony studios get to ride the coattails of the God of Wars, Last of Us’s, etc. you can’t say Sony has the best games across the board, and then only really have examples in one genre where you can definitively show with reviews and reputation that they are superior. If they have the best across the board, then their exclusive offerings in those other genres also have to be “the best” and that’s just not true. If we’re going to make an argument for the “best” in gaming for everyone, we should consider that people have different tastes, and not all of those tastes lead to Sony as the best offering
@middyone I agree about 3rd person narratives going to Sony and I also actually agree that they are putting effort into variety. My point wasn’t that they only made 3rd person narrative games, but that only really in that genre could Sony claim to be the masters at the top. I wasn’t saying they didn’t have offerings, but that outside of the 3rd person narrative (GoW, Spider-Man, Naighty Dog stuff) their other offerings aren’t as highly regarded. Not bad but not on top. They are “enjoyable” and “fun” in the same way other offerings are but not “above” other offerings.
To go back to some specifics, with Forza vs GT, the only fan base that rates GT higher is inside the Sony ecosystem due to brand preference. Metacritic alone has critical (and user although we all know those can manipulated) scores solidly Forza above the GT series basically for the last decade. Reputation within the wider gaming population sees this as well. This doesn’t mean GT is bad, but to believe the GT series is regarded as the top tier, cream of the crop by more than just those inside the Sony echo chamber is false. That would be like me trying to argue the Gears series (which is still fairly well regarded) is above God of War or Uncharted. I could only do that if I was so stuck in the Xbox ecosystem I didn’t want to give Sony any credit. That’s basically how the argument of GT over Forza can be viewed.
With platformers, everyone knows Nintendo is king. Sony’s offerings show promise but nothing on the level of Nintendo yet. Could they get there? Yeah. But that remains to be seen.
This kinda leads me to Western RPGs. How is it that you give Sony credit for “potential” future on platformers with things like the developing Astro series, but not MS credit for the “potential” future of their Western RPGs based on the quality of their studios in this genre now? That’s kinda a double standard to say “Sony will prove themselves soon enough (in platformers)” while simultaneously saying “MS still has to prove they can make a good western RPG” even though literally they own now some of the highest regarded studios ever in that genre. Both standards should be applied equally and either we count Sony’s potential in platformers AND MS’s potential in western RPGs or we count neither because they’re not “officially” there yet.
As for mp shooters, Halo’s story for 5 was awful, but MP still seen as one of the best. The Gears series also has highly regarded MP. Sea of Thieves started rough but is now one of the most respected online experiences, but due to its nature I’d include it here as opposed to a story game. What’s hard about this genre is almost every other MP game (which are the top level like COD) are on all systems. Halo and Gears might be all MS has in this department, but Sony and Nintendo have nothing in the exclusive department here. So this category has to go to multiplats/MS. .
@middyone “we still have the games with the most quality” true for some tastes, not all.
3rd person Narrative Action/Adventure - Definitely!
Multiplayer/Arena - that goes to multiplats like COD but in the exclusive arena it’s MS
Platformers - Ratchet and Clank is amazing but this goes to Nintendo
Sports - All systems now have all sports games
Japanese RPG - tied with Nintendo based on preference
Western RPG - arguably MS now
Racing - Forza is regarded as top of this tier now
Strategy - probably PC but I’m not as familiar with these
Point is - there are lots of types of games people enjoy and Sony studios are really only masters of a couple of them. Many people also enjoy other game types to change it up and the new reality is other platforms offer better experiences for those tastes.
@Old-Red you gotta remember though. Studio purchases aren’t 100% about simply taking games. Many of the studios purchased were grabbed up so they could have more money to let their creativity lead them and create new things people on Xbox might like. For instance, without the purchase, Compulsion games wouldn’t have the money to have extra years to work on their latest creative project (which has yet to be teased but is getting AAA level time and financing). In that situation, the game would not exist without MS buying the studio. Same could be said for a lot of the other, smaller studios. Psychonauts 2 was able to add a lot of content thanks to the purchase, making the game BETTER than it would have been.
With the Bethesda purchase, you absolutely have a point. That involved a lot of claiming existing ips to draw people in. But not every studio investment is that way. In many cases it’s giving those studios support and time to make their games better and bigger (ex. inExile, Obsidian, Double Fine, Compulsion, Undead Labs, Ninja Theory) than they would have been.
@mucc to be fair, you are completely correct in that it is a rental service. But what’s not usually brought up is that while it’s in gamepass you can also purchase the game at a discount. I can’t remember the actual percentage but it’s not just a couple bucks off. So the opportunity to buy to own with a cheaper price is still a gamepass benefit.
@Hyperluminal that’s the way the modern world works. Same thing with “free healthcare” and “free collage” at a basic level. They tell you it’s free but in actuality you’re paying for it in other ways which will have an effect on the overall economy and how we create and get a hold of things we need/want.
