It's taken almost three years to get here, but we're confident in saying that Cyberpunk 2077 is now an excellent open world RPG. Update 2.0 just launched on PS5, and it makes a laundry list of improvements and adjustments to the game. Entire systems have been redone, combat has been refreshed, and overall, it just feels like a much better game — and we'd argue it's been pretty great since it released on PS5 last year.
With a rekindled buzz surrounding Cyberpunk 2077 again — especially with the brilliant Phantom Liberty expansion just days away — we wanted to ask if you're returning to Night City.
Whether you're jumping in right now with 2.0, or you're waiting for the aforementioned DLC adventure, be sure to vote in our polls, and then tell us all about your plans in the comments section below.
Are you playing Cyberpunk 2077 now that Update 2.0 is out? (2,177 votes)
- Yes, but I'd be playing it anyway
- Yeah, I'm returning to the game for 2.0
- Yep, but 2.0 will be my first time playing
- I'd like to, but I'm busy with other games right now
- Nah, I'm going to wait for Phantom Liberty
- Nope, I have no desire to go back
- No, and I never played Cyberpunk 2077 to begin with

I'll probably start first of Oct, actually, but I went ahead and marked that I'm playing now, for the first time. I did enough missions to get into town on a prior save, but not so far to encounter Johnny, so I figure this counts as my first time.
Played a bit at launch and was taken back at how much better it felt, particularly in combat.
Will probably grab it after Spider-Man 2. I bought it and waited for it until the PS5 update. Played it for 10 hours and was totally disinterested. Skill trees were unimpressive, combat was bland, inventory was a mess and cluttered, really annoying to look at. I was really confused why so many reviewers talked about builds and etc when the skill trees basically amounted to "Pistol damage increases by 5%". So I traded it in.
Maybe I'm buying into 2.0 hype but since those were overhauled, seems like most, if not all my issues were addressed so I'll give CDR another shot.
I will be but i've a couple of big games on the go at the moment.
I played through it on PC earlier this year and have been playing this new update there and the new ray reconstruction looks unbelievable, finally showcasing what my GPU can really do. In terms of the gameplay improvements, I feel they've transformed the game. I've had a quick go on my high level character but will be starting a fresh save for the dlc but the new police and perks are brilliant fun, whether I'm blocking bullets with a sword or bullet time jumping from my vehicle
I played it once at release, that is to say, I played it until my PS5 crashed and then I waited for the next patch. This happened again and again until I finally got to the disappointing end.
I'm not sure if I can get myself to start the game up again. I heard their are still bugs in there so maybe I wait till everything is finally fixed and try it one time from the start.
I’m waiting in hope that eventually we get a complete edition with a new trophy list I can platinum. Kinda regret 100%’ing it last year
Nope, didn’t enjoy Witcher 3 and now will not support a scummy company like CDPR.
Nope. I played it on Stadia back at release and finished it up and, excluding bugs, I wasn’t impressed with the story or mission structures of the game. I wanted to like it, in spite of the bugs, but I just… didn’t. I felt like I played a buggy cross between Fallout and Far Cry.
Phantom Liberty sounds like it might be more up my alley than the base game was, but I’d rather play Mortal Kombat, Mirage, and Alan Wake 2 instead in the near future. In fact, I’ll be trying out the Foamstars beta instead.
I feel like every one of my answers to these polls now is, “No, I’m too busy with other games, but I want to play it!” SOMANYGAMESIWANTTOPLAYIWISHICOULDFREEZETIMEANDPLAYALLTHEGAMES
Busy with Baldur's Gate 3. I might get the old disc that I never sold on out, just to see how the game feels on my midpoint save, and then if it is noticeably better I'll definitely come back to it one day, or even start again, but I'd rather just pick up where I left off, as my story was based on the decisions I made, kind of, and I want to see that through.
After getting the platinum for Spider-Man 2.
I'll reinstall it and give it a go. May not play all the way through but it will be interesting to see if it's as much of an improvement as everyone claims.
I give it a big fat maybe. I bought the game second hand when the PS5 version released and was kinda disappointed. I'm not sure I see these changes making it not boring to me, but if I run out of other stuff I'm looking forward to then I'll probably give it a go
If the new dlc goes on sale in the future I may return to it..I have it Xbox and got all the achievements and not that bothered about returning to it....but am slightly curious to see how much better it has got since I last played it
I rarely play massive games like this twice but I love the game and the changes sound substantial so I’ll be starting a new play through integrating Phantom Liberty.
I’ll probably fire it up this evening just to do the mandatory respec of my character and maybe get a feel for how things have changed; but ultimately I have other games to get through and will return when the DLC drops so I can finish that and see if the ending will drastically change.
I am debating starting over though so I can experience the game in a whole new light.
Yes! And if you’re not - WAKE UP. In this state, this is probably the best game I’ve ever played. I CAN’T WAIT for the dlc
@MikeOrator it is. And then some.
Finished it on PS4, so I'll stick on the PS5 and try a different character type, I think I went corporate first time...not sure if a could do the full 200 hours again though
Been playing all night between a new save and existing save. Its pretty wild seeing actual car chasers happen as you walk about and the city is way more populated now. Been working on my Mantis build and its been good.
@Gunnerzaurus and they have so...
Just wish it wasn't FPS/RPG, I do not like First Person view games. But for those who like it? Go for it?
I'm playing it rn and yeah it is a massive improvement and almost an entirely new game.
For the first time since the game released, I’m actually excited for this. I even preordered the expansion — a thing I never do. I’ll maybe jump into 2.0 tonight and go from there.
I do have a quick question — is the expansion only playable after you beat the main campaign, or is it available as a quest mission that you can do while subsequently doing everything else in the base game?
@DennisReynolds And finally there are actually people riding motorcycles(At least from the one cop I saw).
Playing on PC! It's absolutely stunning with Path Tracing, and still manages to run great on my 4070TI.
Waiting for a good sale on the bundle of the base game and the DLC, looks like Cyberpunk is finally in a state where I may enjoy it on PS5, though the limited time-trial I tried some time ago didn't impress me too much. I am keeping my mind open, though.
I started a new game and it’s still a bit buggy but definitely feels more like the game sold to us in the run up to release.
Definitely want to one day, but I'd need to either upgrade to a PS5 or upgrade my PC. I enjoyed the base game at launch even on PS4, but I wouldn't want to replay it without the new update on more powerful hardware.
Having unlocked the Platinum previously, I’m going to play 2.0 on the PC now. The RT Overdrive update is gorgeous, and made me double-dip earlier this year, now I'm ready to revisit Night City!
Nah, already finished it. Not going to waste time playing it again just because of a patch. Wasn’t that good to begin with honestly. And I found Silverhand to be annoying AF.
Put Lies of P on ice to give this a proper try. Played it twice before (PS4 launch and next-gen update) and never got very far. Never even got to anything with Silverhand.
Playing it tonight and aside from some setting tweaking, it's like night and day from launch on my PS5.
Base game trophies seem busted on old saves.
Never had any interest in the game at all.
Maybe wait until the DLC is on sale. Lost interest to make this game a need/want to play long ago now so I don't have that excitment anymore. I have a big collection of other games that have higher priority. The state this games launched in and the length of time it took to get where it is now made me move on
@Loamy I was blocked by that insufferable know-it-all long ago and I thank him for it.
Yes, and now i actually have sound and animation bugs i didn't have previously lol
I did start a new game as was recommended by CDPR, btw
Yeah playing it, 20mins in had to restart due to bug, npc won't get in the car, cant drive or get out even, and also whats up with stamina been used firing weapons? Worse addition ever, what's even the point
Still sealed since release day 2020, am going to start at third anniversary I'm December 10th
If it ever comes to PS plus I might give it a go.
Tbh there are very few AAA titles that live up to the hype these days so I usually stick with indies and older titles that I know are good.
Never actually played Cyberpunk. After the initial launch I was positively whelmed and lost interest.
Is it anything like Deus Ex Mankind Divided?
Played it for a couple of hours then went back to starfield ,ill wait for the dlc
Tested the update yesterday and it is a major improvement. Cars are so much more fun, shooting feels better, Police is great now (almost a game in it self now, to mess with them).
Maybe in a few months. I jump between my Xbox and PS5 often and my focus for the next month will be MK1 and then Spider-Man 2.
Started my new play through last night!
@Loamy he is a prize bellend
Have never for some reson got attracted to the Cyperpunk universe.
I have it reinstalled,but,,,, Baldurs Gate 3..
im always broke after Summer, so Fall is a moment of backlog gaming. i can wait anyway, that backlog is so huge
@MattBoothDev There are some obvious similarities but in my opinion, they are very different games. Tonally, Mankind Divided employs an overall more cynical and conspiratorial vibe where technology has rendered humanity ultimately powerless, directly manipulated and exploited by shadowy forces with a surgical focus on class conflict and the resultant discrimination and political subterfuge. 2077 is a more anarchistic, broad view satirical exploration of unfettered capitalistic ideals, where humanity’s inherent greed has allowed powerful corporations to prey opportunistically on every facet of daily life and the resultant power struggle of that powder keg.
Mechanically, MD is a far more focused, tactical and methodical stealth action game. It’s cold, cool and calculated. The environment is a tightly designed, highly interactive sandbox. 2077 plays more often than not like a cinematic action movie. It’s loud, bombastic and chaotic. What the environment lacks in interactivity, it makes up for in atmosphere. There is a far greater focus on relationships and player expression. I think they are both very interesting and valuable takes on the genre.
I'd like to get it on PC and play it for the first time.
What's the shooting like on it? Feel like a general FPS or bit off like fallout?
I may get it down the line
@rusty82 Shooting and control in general feels significantly tighter than something like Fallout and leans much closer to a general FPS though it still has RPG elements under the hood. Builds are weapon specific so you could be a deadly assassin with a handgun but might as well be holding a wet noodle when you pick up a shotgun etc. There are damage numbers flying about but the way the perk system works allows you to funnel points into increasing the damage percentage of, say, headshots so accuracy is still rewarded. With that said, I haven’t had much time with 2.0 so I can’t confirm everything works exactly the same as it did.
I'll probably buy a complete edition and drop it on the pile of games I need to finish. 😅
@personauser93 Go support Ubisoft and Bewthesda
@Gunnerzaurus You know NOTHING about how they run their bussiness. Internet news from reddit isnt a fking one truth.
@Uromastryx I couldn't stay 20 mins in Starfield lol
Busy with other games, but I'm strongly looking forward to revisiting 😎
I put Starfield to the side to play this 2.0 version of Cyberpunk and im loving it! I hope something similar can happen for Starfield.
Since starfield runs like ass on my pc. This is my go to and it has been really good so far. I enjoyed cyberpunk when it launched. And now I love it even more. Can't wait for phantom liberty.
@Jimmer-jammer thanks for that. May give the base game a try at some point
I don't know if I'll go back to this game, it is very frustrating for me with every new patch I must download again the hole game! 50+gb! seriously ??? Same with the next gen update it needed another 60gb update! Don't have time for this bs@it and have a huge backlog.
The crashing after the update is horrific. Still a poorly optimized dumpster fire. In only an hour on a brand new character I crashed twice, with one being accompanied by extremely loud fans. Studio is on my blacklist, right next to Techland. Expect tons of problems with Phantom Liberty if this is anything to go by.
I bought the game when it went on a dirt cheap sale and then just dumped it in my backlog, assumed I would play it eventually one way or the other, so I am glad it is now much better. But I still don't have time for it and it will continue to idle in my backlog for a bit longer.
@Jimmer-jammer It sounds like the “make the numbers go up” for damage aspect of the perks has essentially been stripped out in 2.0 with new perks unlocking new features and new ways to play instead.
@MasterChiefWiggum Yeah, I’m about 4 hours into a new play through now and it’s apparent that the systems have indeed been entirely reworked. Gunplay still feels incredible 😄
@Gunnerzaurus I would reconsider the way You think You can tell others what and how they can or not comment. Also, if i was You i would refrain from giving information on how a dev company works when i had no fking clue about it and all my "knowledge" came from the inmternet randoms with no credibility. It would definitely help You. Hateboy.
@Gunnerzaurus
" until they change the way they do business"
Again. You are clueless about how their business is.
Good luck to You and other people that get their "knowledge" from tweets.
