January has come and gone, and it proved to be quite a good month for PlayStation fans. As we keep saying, the 2023 release schedule is truly bonkers, and last month's offerings were just the beginning, with February already keeping us extremely busy.
But for now, let's take a moment to reflect on January's PS5 and PS4 releases. You can read our most popular reviews from last month by clicking these links:
At the start of last month, we asked about your most anticipated January 2023 game. The Dead Space remake won that poll by some distance, followed by Forspoken, Persona 4 Golden, and then Persona 3 Portable. We wonder: did your most hyped release live up to expectations?
Now then, what was your favourite PlayStation game in January 2023? Which title took up most of your time? As always, vote in our poll, and then explain yourself in the comments section below.

Barely used my PS5 this month, bunch of ports and multiplats
Actually took the plunge with Death Stranding Director’s Cut. Hopelessly addicted but I played a little Dead Space and it’s just chef’s kiss
Dead Space holds up. My only real complaint is that I wanted them to go all in on the DuelSense.
Dead Space is easily my game of the month/year so far for PS5. I enjoyed it so much that after I finished it, I went back and played/beat Dead Space 2 on my Series X this morning. I also played through Dead Space 3 co-op about a month ago. I'll be starting an NG+ of Dead Space Remake today!
I'm playing Persona 3 & 4 on Switch.
I picked up a copy of DBZ Kakarot for PS5 but have yet to play it.
Dead space remake for the win.word up son
Clearly Dead Space , why? Was there anything else of consequence?
MhRise for me.
Not paying $70 for a game I have on steam and played once. (Same thing for tlou remake)
The only game I bought was One Piece Odyssey, so my vote goes there by default. I enjoyed it, though.
Dead Space Remake was such a 10/10. It wasn't only incredibly faithful but improved on other parts of the game that were needed(Like the turret parts) to make the best experience possible. Thank you Motive!
@Splat Yeah that was pretty lame but I'm happy it's still there at least
Is the answer Destiny 2?
One Piece Odyssey
Mostly because it is fantastic as a SteamDeck game. Really made me not care about the time I spend travelling for work.
Only got Forspoken for PS5 this month (Rental) At last chapter, been fun.
Only bought MH Rise so far and it's been well worth the $40 and then some. I just can't stop playing the damn game. My only issue with it, is how easy its been even at hr6. Maybe it's because I'm using the long sword and it's disgustingly op counter. But monsters here are just not that difficult to deal with. I've only carted twice due to what I think was actual difficulty
Hopefully the title updates for the base game plus sunbreak up the ante a little bit. But despite that I'm still having a ton of fun with it
Game I probably played the most was Call of Duty Vanguard, mostly campaign and zombies mode. At the end of January and now, I’m enjoying the heck out of Yakuza: Like a Dragon.
Dead space was that good I'm only going to play it once...
Dead Space is everything I wanted and more! Hopefully it does well and we can get another one along with ME level remasters of the original games.
For the ones I've played, definitely Persona 4 Golden (almost done with it but might play some P3P before HL comes out on the 6th). But if I had to pick one that I enjoyed watching, definitely Dead Space.
DEAD SPACE. (severed) hands down! And I know it's WAAAAY early, but it may even end up being my GOTY depending on how good Atomic Heart, Remnant 2 and **possibly** one or two others I have my eye on end up being.
@Splat Agreed. There was some decent Dual Sense support in the game for sure, but I felt like they missed some real solid opportunities there.
Given my experience with Pushsquare the last few weeks, I might be this website’s biggest fan of Forspoken, so there’s your answer.
Persona 4 Golden for me. Top 10 on my list now. So worth the $20 for a 100+ hour game
Haven’t gotten it yet but looking forward to forspoken.
Due to not being able to afford it till next week i can't say Dead Space so its P4 or MH Rise for me.
I haven't had a chance to play it yet due to Best Buy fudging up my pre-order, but I went ahead and voted for SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake.
Waiting for deep sales on Forspoken, Dead Space, both Personas, MH Rise etc.
Im being deadly serious when im saying I am LOVING forspoken. took a gamble on it, first 4 hours are a bit of a mess (still entertaining) but after you start taking down the bosses it just sings. the magic parkour stuff is genius. The demo didn't explain any of it how it worked but the game slowly teaches you everything. what I will say though is the performance needs patched and the side content stuff in the "open world" is rubbish.
@Gazray The side content is unnecessary for the most part. But seriously stick to what feels fun in the game and it’s sublime. The combat and traversal are 10/10 and it only gets better. The game is quick (you’re probably a quarter to a third of the way through it already), but it’ll probably leave you wanting more.
I am close to finishing Fire Emblem Engage now too and I can confirm I prefer Forspoken to that too, for January (even though, let’s be real that’s a 10/10 gameplay game too, just with a mixed bag of a story). Just need to get through Hi-Fi Rush to know if Forspoken is the absolute game of the month for January. What a fantastic month January was for releases.
thats interesting, I got dead space remake as well but I have barely touched it 2bh.
Forspoken is like an itch! just hope they give it a performance patch on PS5, it really needs to be smoother!!! HDR and lightening also could use some tlc.
Forspoken has been a nice ride, little rough around the edges but felt I've got my money's worth.
Forspoken is awesome
Forspoken for me. Dead space was kinda least on my list because for starters I've played the original and I don't believe the £70 is worth the very small changes made other than nostalgia, but it's certainly one to look for on ps plus in the future
