lol guys. I tried again but I think I'm too old for this crap. Life is short, you know
I know what you mean. Though I find Bloodborne incredibly engrossing and engaging, I'm not entirely sure I enjoy it as much as other games. There are so many hooks that encourage compulsiveness, and it is a horrid and miserable setting to become immersed in.
My first (and only) experience with a Souls game was last year when Demon Souls was free on PS+. Gave it a try, spent like 10 hours on it before giving up because it so darn difficult. So when everybody started calling Bloodborne the PS4's "killer app" I was still skeptical but decided to give the game a chance. And man, I'm having so much fun! It's still difficult for me alright, but every enemy I killed in the beggining felt so satisfying I just wanted to keep pushing on and on. It took me a while (and some tips form friends) to figure out what was necessary to start leveling up, but after defeating the fisrt boss (Cleric Beast I guess) in my 3rd attempt, I feel so motivated! My one complain about the game is the fact that it doesn't take any time to explain any of its mechanics to the player, like the levelling system for example. But I can't deny that it's also one of its charms. I've read somewhere (EDIT: @kyleforrester87 said it) that this game feels like a "modern day PS1 game". I couldn't agree - or love it - more.
Just placed my order for it this afternoon, should come Friday. This was probably a bad idea, seeing as I'm moving flat in a week and a half and have yet to start packing... Oh well, looking forward to getting stuck in anyway! My only past experience was with Demon's Souls which I didn't get on overly with due to the total lack of direction - any tips here for a new starter?

So I've been really straggling with blood-starved beast (i know, i know... I'm not really good at these kind of games, but I really enjoy it!) and after 7th or 8th try the beast simply jumped into the wall, got stuck and killed itself... I have to admit I was very relieved and happy, but it feels like I cheated a bit over there... Did that happen to anyone else?

Nope I wasn't that lucky!
Funnily enough I think the BSB and the Priest are rather hard to beat, I struggled way less with later bosses. Sure I was more advanced and knew the game better, but still. There's only one boss (thats optional) that really gave me nightmares because it took a long while to figure out how to beat it, alone. I just say Paarl...
#supportindies
Top 5 Indies I'd recommend you try: #1 Lovecraft's Untold Stories, #2 Moonlighter, #3 Hotline Miami, #4 Inside, #5 Into the Breach.

I wish this would happen to me. I can't kill the BSB no matter what I do. I've come close but no luck. Too bad you didn't get a video of this happening lol.

It happened behind the altar all the way back in the room. Good luck!

You mean Darkbeast Paarl? Funny enough, I managed beat it on the first try just a couple of minutes ago! and I agree, so far other bosses are rather weak compared to blood-starved beast... I was especially disappointed with that witch, they should have made her stronger cause I didn't even had to use a single potion
And I have to say, the game is truly a masterpiece, I can't stop playing...
So I have pretty much played no games at all in the last couple of weeks, as most of my time has been taken up with sorting out everything to do with my flat move. I've managed to fit two brief sessions (under an hour each) of Bloodborne in, and I am having some serious problems with Father Gascoigne. I can get through Phases 1 & 2 of the fight without a hitch, but as soon as he goes beast mode he tosses me around like a ragdoll and I'm down in seconds. When I dodge, his swipes still catch me (and that's dodging forwards / sideways - I know not to dodge backwards), and once I'm hit I'm either stunlocked into submission, or get away just long enough to start attempting to use a blood vial before I get torn apart half way through the animation.
I'm absolutely loving the game so far, and the fact that I'm finding it hard doesn't bother me at all, as I don't tend to be great at action-oriented games so I expected this. However, I am desperate to see the rest of the game and that is what's frustrating me. A couple of articles I've read online suggest that Father Gascoigne is up there with the harder fights of the game, so I was wondering if people thought there was any shame in calling the cavalry with the Beckoning Bell to help me get on to experiencing the rest of the game?

Just..get good. Haha, nah I'm joking. Honestly I beat him on the 3rd or 4th go but I heard he was problematic for many. Maybe I was just overpowered, I dunno..just go level a bit more, no?

Haha yes I suppose there is that! Hmm yeah maybe I'll level a couple more times, already at 20 though with that mostly in endurance and a couple in health / strength, so I do feel I should be ok to tackle him at this point. The attempts I've made have been a bit rushed, as each time I've only had a limited window to play, so haven't been able to do things like spend time farming to re-stock blood vials etc between bouts.
The one thing I've been wondering is, can you still parry him in the 3rd stage? I've not managed to land a successful parry on him in that part of the fight, but I reckon if I could get off a successful "parry->visceral attack->bombard with molotovs" chain once that part kicks off, I should be able to finish him off before he even gets a chance to get back up.

I honestly can't remember but I think I was a little higher than 20, plus I put my points in HP and Strength before Endurance. I also definitely remember I didn't bother parrying him at all, just dodging. Hats off to you if you can parry any of his stages well but I just worked on keeping my distance, hitting when I could and keeping my HP topped up.
Try disregarding parrying completely for him and see if that helps?

Yeah I can parry fairly consistently until he switches to beast form, but I will see how it goes if I focus on dodging. I have an unhealthy tendency to overdodge, leaving myself out of stamina which obviously always ends badly. I've got another day until the internet at our place comes online, so I'll have a few more goes tonight, maybe use remote play to do 2-3 full clean-ups of the Central Yarnham area, putting it all into strength, and see how I go from there!

HP is king in my opinion - endurance will regenerate and patience will overcome a lack of strength I'm sure someone much more experienced can offer you some better advice.

have you got the music box? Other option is to go full of molotovs, at his last stage just run away from him and when u see a spot (meaning when he doesn t move) make it rain with the molotovs!

Yeah I do although I find the window of opportunity it gives is fairly small, and it's much easier just to parry in the early stages due to the long interruptible animation for the music box. I've not even bothered trying it in the final stage due to his speed.
I spent half an hour before work this morning doing a quick almost full clean up of Central Yarnham to replenish my supplies as I'd basically run out of everything. Will finish up the last few, max out my supplies, level up with any leftovers, and see how I do. Pretty confident I've got this tonight...

I've never played any of From Software's previous games, but I was intrigued by this one from the first screenshots. All the hype about how difficult their games can be was a little off-putting, but I purchased Bloodborne on release day. The long load times were painful and so I didn't play it until the patch came out to speed them up (which they did and they're no worse than any other game, i.e. DA:I).
Ben's review, "There are very few games that cause you to curse their developer in one minute and sing their praises the next." Yes, this is how I feel too. I have agreed with games as of late "hand-holding" us gamers a little too much and I appreciate how Bloodborne drops us in the "deep end of the pool" with little fanfare.
This game is visually stunning and filled with tiny touches that keep me immersed in the world of blood. The animations and textures are beautifully done. As with any good fantasy/sci-fi novel, the need to keep pushing forward until understanding the new realm we have found our character in is very prominent. I enjoy discovering new hidden areas and shortcuts; strange characters and twisted elements. I love the gothic art.
I have found the combat to be some of the most fun to play in a game in a very long time. There is no button memorizing, no silly button pressing cutscenes, and no master-plan-of-attack-that-works-on-all-enemies. I enjoy trying different tactics on new enemies and either reap the rewards or rue their failures.
Jump-back, strafe-left, jump-attack, quick-slash, dodge-out, circle, dodge-behind, quick-slash, heavy-attack. Or just timing a good visceral attack (that was the key for defeating Father G).
It's those type combat rewards that bring a smile to my face. The grumbling comes from the lack of a pause. Hey, life happens and I shouldn't be penalized for a phone call or a knock on my door. We don't always have the luxury of finding a safe place to hide. There could be a few more save points, too. The repetitive nature gets a little time weary when working your way through an area and die. The shortcuts are very well received!
I do enjoy this game very much. It's been a long time since a game has occupied my mind while not playing, "Hmmm, how can I do better at getting through that section?"
So I didn't end up getting a chance to play again until now. Stuck a couple levels in vitality this morning and absolutely walked it on my first attempt!

Just got Blood Starved Beast on the first attempt too, finally feeling like I'm getting the hang of things somewhat!
