Just wanted to know if any audiophile out there could help me out - considering pre-ordering the Pulse Wireless Headset for the PS5, but I'm unaware whether any actual specs for this thing has been released, such as driver size, etc.
And also, how does it stack up to the already available Platinum Headset for PS4? The big selling point for the Pulse is 3D audio, but the Platinum headset already supports this feature. I ask because, for those of us that already own the Platinum headset, is there any point (outside of aesthetics) to purchase the Pulse for PS5?
Interestingly enough, the MSRP for the Platinum headset is $159.99 and the Pulse goes for $99.99 USD, so I'm expecting the Pulse to actually be some sort of downgrade.
To put a finer point on it, assuming specs are available, can someone more knowledgeable than me let me know if there is any benefit to the Pulse 3D if we already have the Platinum? Thanks for any wisdom you can provide.
This would be good to know, but as far as I can see no detailed specs have been revealed yet and no one has had any hands on(or should that ears on) with them yet, so the question is quite hard to answer at the moment.
Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
The new set looks quite flimsy imo. I've bought most (all?) of these different PS headsets over the last few years and one thing the majority of them lack is durability, so I'm a little concerned there.
Would also like to see proper specs and hear some impressions before I'm interested.
I also want to know, I dont use headphones too much, mostly earphone but the 3D Audio feature for the PS5 really makes me want to invest on a 3D Audio Headphone. Really am interested in this thread
..I just want to know if the PS5 will support Atmos... no details at all on this... even XB1X supported Atmos... I have a Sony Atmos setup - to think it won't support it is just unfathomable... :/
"The Platinum and Gold Wireless Headsets, as well as third-party headsets that connect via USB port or audio jack, will work on PS5 (the headset companion app is not compatible with PS5)"
-Playstation Blog FAQ
I see here it says they will work. Someone replied that the Gold and Platinum headsets will only work on PS5, but only while playing PS4 games. I can't find any source for that statement anywhere, so I'm thinking that's some kind of guess presented as a fact.
Considering the 3D Pulse, Gold, and Platinum headsets all use the same tech (presumably) and the same connection interface (I think I read somewhere it still uses the USB dongle?) there is absolutely NO reason the Gold and Platinum would not work for PS5, including while playing PS5 games with 3D Audio.
The only disclaimer given in the official website is the Headset Companion App will not be compatible with PS5, which makes sense.
@OneManDroid
I have a feeling in the gut it will support Atmos. After all it does have a 4K UltraHD Bluray drive in it, and those movie discs have Atmos sound as a majority.
Thanks for clarifying. The optical out is not used for the Gold or Platinum headsets, they connect over Bluetooth via the included USB dongle or alternatively via the 3.5 mm headphone jack at the bottom of your controller (though 3D Audio doesn't work if you use this method I believe).
Optical out goes directly to your TV or sound system, i.e., a soundbar or similar setup. Not used for the officially licensed headsets.
Have the platinum headset which I would assume is better than the new pulse or the same but they have brought the costs down.
I bought the headset for LOU2 and it was really good. Not as good as a decent surround system but great for night time gaming.
Would like to know if they will work on default and just not use game specific setups. They are virtual only so probably better getting the new ones as different games sound strange sometimes when you forget to change the settings.
@UnlimitedSevens the headsets actually use wi-fi to connect to the dongle. This is because wi-fi has a bigger bandwidth than Bluetooth.
There's nothing special about the pulse headset. As all the processing is done by the PS5, any stereo headphones will work providing they're compatible with the PS5.
My main question relates to the sound profiles you can load to the PS4 headsets using the app. Without the app on the PS5, will the headset default to a standard profile or will it use the last ones loaded from the app?
