@RR529: I had pretty much the same experience as you, I think. FFXII was absolutely beautiful, and I did enjoy it, but it never lived up to the standards set by FFX for me, and I never finished it either. That's one of the few games I'd be really happy to see remastered for the current gen, actually, because I feel I probably didn't appreciate it properly the first time around.
Disney Infinity 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0. I've always bought these games thinking they would be the best game ever. I always have really high expectations for any game...I still like them though...
I have only played a bit of it but I am leaning towards Batman Arkham Knight. It's a good game but honestly it didn't wow me like Asylum did and definitely not like City did. The Batmobile just feels like it's forced on you and the controls for it are horrible. Using the battlemode makes it feel like a third person shooter.
As I said it's a good game I am just disappointed that it didn't live up to the standard that the other two games did.

I'd say my biggest one is Watch Dogs. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but the hype that was thrown into it pre-release just made it disappointing to play and the storyline was a bit dull IMO.
I still haven't played that game and I doubt I ever will. As you said the hype built around it set it up to be a disappointment.

Dragon Age: Inquisition for me. Looked very impressive before it launched and although parts of that game are good, it has a serious amount of filler and just bland elements. Good game but a lot of lost potential. Really feel a great addition to it would have been a mission or two where you controlled your Inquisition Army as it attacked a certain base or stronghold, I was crying out for this from halfway on through the game.
Also AC:Unity, loved the setting and I do feel Ubisoft did try to freshen up the missions from past games, the murder investigations were a highlight in particularly, but the gameplay is still criminally lacking in those games, another series with so much wasted potential
