Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores: What Is Brimshine?

Brimshine is a yellow crystalline material that can be found dotted throughout the map in Burning Shores. Named after brimstone, it glows a bright yellow and, apparently, has a strong odour. Brimshine is somewhat rare, but is pretty easy to spot if you pay attention.

Horizon Forbidden West: What Does Brimshine Do?

Brimshine is used in Burning Shores to purchase certain outfits and weapons. You'll also need it to make upgrades to that equipment. If you want to buy and upgrade all the new gear in the expansion, you'll need to keep your eyes peeled for Brimshine as you travel the map.

Horizon Forbidden West: Where Is Brimshine?

The game doesn't tell you exactly where to find Brimshine. It's not highlighted on the map, so it can be tricky to find if you need it. However, there are a couple of telltale characteristics to keep in mind.

Brimshine is scattered all across the map of Burning Shores, encouraging exploration. The in-game description says they can be found "off the beaten path" — in other words, look high and low everywhere you go to find hidden Brimshine.

These crystals give off a vivid yellow glow, so they generally stand out pretty well from the surrounding environment. As well as that, you will start to hear a shimmering sound when a Brimshine is nearby.

It's also worth going into Focus mode by holding R3, then looking around for purple triangles (which indicate things you can pick up or interact with). Some of these may be Brimshine, so you can make a beeline for those when you see them.

By far the easiest way to find the Brimshine crystals you need is to create a Job. Say you want to purchase an outfit, but don't have the Brimshine required to make the transaction. While in the menu, you can press Triangle to create a Job. If you then make it your active Quest, the game will show you where to find any resources you need — including Brimshine. Using the map, you can track down caches of Brimshine, making it pretty simple to track down.
