With the remaster just over a couple of weeks away, Square Enix has released a launch trailer for Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion. It's got a bit of everything: CG scenes, in-game cutscenes, combat footage — a lot has been squeezed into this relatively short three-minute video. But the deciding ingredient here is undoubtedly nostalgia. If you're at all familiar with the original Crisis Core on PSP, this trailer's bound to stir some memories.
Indeed, nostalgia is going to be a key selling point for Reunion. It may be making use of entirely new assets, but it's still the action RPG that you might remember from all those years ago — incredibly awkward character interactions and all.
How do we know this? Well, we've been playing the PS5 version for preview purposes, so be sure to give our thoughts a read.
Are you looking forward to Reunion? Give Zack a much needed break in the comments section below.

It's been a long wait... had this on my PSP but never got round to it for some reason. Looking forward to finally breaking that some time next year.
I’m really looking forward to playing this for the first time!
Gonna be sticking with my PSP version, but super happy people who never owned a PSP can finally enjoy the fantastic game that Crisis Core is!
Ok... serious questions to the fans. I've always enjoyed FF7 but I've only ever gotten as far as the end of disc 1. I own and played Remake which stops at basically the same part as disc 1.
1. That Yufi DLC, where does it fit into FF7 (PS1)? I have yet to play it but am considering picking it up.
2. Where does Crisis Core fit into the story? Is it a prequel? I never played it.
Tbh, I've played the game so have no interest in going back, but it does look much better graphically so this will be the best way to play the game. I'm curious to see what they do with the ending. Keep it the same, or adapt it to follow suit with the remake.
@Uncharted2007 so the yuffi DLC doesn't fit in the PS1 timeline at all, it's purposely made for the remake. So the story is essentially all new for the new version. Crisis core fits in with the old PS1 version and is indeed a prequel. Some of the shots used in the classic version (won't spoil just incase you haven't reached those points) are reflected in crisis core. Crisis core is essentially the story of Zack, Cloud e.c.t before the train ride at the beginning of FF7.
@EquiinoxGII Awesome. Any idea if the Crisis Core remake plays like the FF7 Remake?
@Uncharted2007 it will play different for sure, I'd imagine they will have copied the style a little more and the attacks will be similar, but it has a roulette style system. So there will be some key differences, that system was in the original which is probably why they kept it. I'd recommend watching a few videos to get an idea.
@EquiinoxGII Appreciate it.
Well, since their recent FF titles from this last decade have been pretty forgettable in terms of story and characters, they have to go back to milk their golden 90s era where they actually made iconic characters and stories.
Putting the ending song in that trailer was a dirty move...now I'll have to buy the game.
I think the trailer is too spoilerific...
Thanks for the warning @freddquadros…I will pick this up day 1 and the less I know the better..never played the psp version so this will be an all new FF experience for me…so Christmas will be coming early 😉
Trailer was hype! December 13th can't get here soon enough.
@Pedski Oh, congrats!! It's a amazing, crazy journey, specially for FF VII fans!! A brilliant game!!!
