God of War Ragnarok only released a few days ago, but that obviously hasn't stopped some people from racing to the end of the game. There's nothing wrong with that, of course, but there is an issue when those players start uploading spoilers en masse to websites like YouTube. And now, those YouTube videos — complete with spoilerific thumbnails — can actually end up being posted directly onto your PS5 or PS4.
Many of you reading this will already know, but just in case: when you hover over a game that's installed on your console, you'll be presented with a range of related content. This hub usually includes things like any relevant DLC pages or trailers — but it can also throw things like livestreams and YouTube videos into the mix.
This can be especially bad news on PS5, where the system's dedicated 'Explore' tab will show you all kinds of stuff related to the games you've been playing. As such, several Push Square readers have got in touch with us to say that they've been hit with God of War Ragnarok spoilers, just when they were finally settling in for their first weekend of fantastical Norse adventure.
It's a real shame that this can happen, but there is a way to stop it completely — at least on PS5. In order to limit the games that you actually see through the Explore tab, you can select the 'Followed Games' option on said tab, and then uncheck God of War Ragnarok — or any other titles that you don't want additional information on. If you want to avoid the Explore tab altogether, you can go to your PS5's settings menu, go through 'Saved Data', 'Followed Games', 'Manage Followed Games', and then unfollow from there.
Dare we ask if you've ran into any God of War Ragnarok spoilers through your own console? Be careful out there in the comments section below.
Thanks Jack, Tobias, and PFizzz for the tip!

Ive had to unsubscribe from some youtube channels because theyve started playing it. I wont get a chance to til Monday and I had flashbacks of when Jacksepticeye spoiled The Last Guardian for me and I aint repeating that
"Reads article"
"Knows how people can be in the comments section"
"Closes article and mutes keywords regarding game or characters"
See you when its beaten.
Avoided many of my fav gaming YouTubers I'm subbed to just incase. Even delayed viewing Digital Foundry Ragnarok tech review till after finishing the story. There's most likely zero spoilers in a lot I'm subbed to but still better to be safe and wait
I wish Sony would go ahead and remove this feature or at least give the option to. If I want to see YouTube videos on something...I'll go to YouTube. If I'm hovering over a game on my PS5 then I'm considering playing that game.
Never really understood the point of features like this.
I noticed that before it was even out🙈
When your own console spoils your latest game you know something is wrong.
There's also articles that spoil things without including a SPOILER WARNING at the top of the page i.e The Ringer has an article about the game and spoils a huge thing that happens midway through without any kind of warning.
Unfortunately I have already seen a few spoilers on stupid YouTube thumbnails even though i have been avoiding looking at anything to do with God of war. Even one of My subscribed channels that I usually trust has uploaded a boss fight with the description saying minor spoiler but it is the stupid thumbnails that spoil things the most. Actually since I had a YouTube account it is not as bad with the spoilers, I used to keep myself logged out of YouTube thinking it would prevent spoilers but it was actually worse and I had the last God of was and uncharted 4 spoiled with doing that 😠
I remember in Rift Apart I couldn't find a Gold Bolt that was on the map. Turns out it was in the only return trip in the game, in a new area right at the end, and using the PS5 Help feature, it showed me all the current plot missions too.
So even Sony does it themselves.
I just realized you can unfollow stuff that shows up on that tab last week. Good advice though I didn't even think about it possibly showing spoilers.
I will say this though if you're actually already playing the game and not necessarily just following it this story is very predictable as far as story beats go, including entirely reused scenarios from the previous game simply with different characters, you will know what's going to happen before it happens very early on in the journey; but if you haven't played the game and you're just following it and you don't have it yet then definitely unfollow that stuff because that's kind of a lame way to be spoiled.
Predictable or not, I'm enjoying the game thus far, and was pleasantly surprised and proven somewhat wrong in assuming visually it would be identical to the first. There are subtle improvements in various elements that combine to make it a modest improvement over all from the 2018 game, and a stunning game in its own right that certainly punches above what it should be capable of considering its a PS4 game.
@KundaliniRising333 I don’t know that I can agree with this. Depending on where you are this game goes places and I would not wish anyone to be spoiled on what those places are. It’s far from predictable even if the first few hours where they are settling you in would seem to point towards that.
Sounds completely idiotic that you can't turn that stuff off on PS5.
Thanks for the warning, made sure to unfollow the game.
Im quite lucky ive never had any spoilers for any games, i dont really go on you tube and stuff unless i am stuck on a game of to watch stuff like fail army for laughs or mostly poker videos so i mostly get notifications for poker stuff. But i would absaloutley hate getting a pop up with a video that contains a spoiler, thats what i love most about playing a new game or watching a film or tv series is experiencing something for the first time its majical and can never be experienced the same the 2nd or 10th time. Even the last of us which ive played over 15 times easy its still amazing but that first time of playing it was amazing. I think ghe closest i have come to spoilers is that one friend you have who says its not a spoiler but can i just say yhis one part, i always just say no shut up dont talk about it no more lol.
And it’s not even the worst of it, ACTIVITY CARDS ALSO SPOILS THE GAME, I just saw certain character in certain realm and I’m now beyond mad, I‘ve literally been playing nonstop since Wednesday, poured 25 hours into the game but just as I was closing the game an activity card popped up spoiling a key point in the story, I didn’t even scroll through the menus or anything, it just popped up right at the beginning, f***ing outrageous.
Yes but you do have to deliberately go to the "explorer" section
There’s an option somewhere in the PS5 settings to “avoid spoilers.” Does that not do anything? Never understood how it would know, anyway.
My main problem is my PS5 keeps shutting off while playing. Not sure whether it’s overheating or if my wall outlet isn’t supplying enough power. I’ve tried everything. I’ve found several articles and Reddit threads with people having the same issue
Aside from switching to Netflix once, I've never actually moved from the game since release. So I've never had this risk.
