With the hype building for next month's Phantom Liberty expansion, it's easy to forget that Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a huge, game-changing update alongside the DLC. Officially teased what feels like a lifetime ago, the title's next major patch is set to make significant adjustments to how the gritty RPG plays. There's been talk of a new police system, a melee combat overhaul, the addition of open world activities, a complete restructure of the skill trees, and more.
Fortunately, we won't have to wait long to see some of this stuff in action. Developer CD Projekt Red has announced that it'll be hosting a livestream next week, on the 24th August. During the show, the team will "discuss several features that come with the next major update and Phantom Liberty expansion". It'll also include new gameplay footage. Certainly something to look forward to if you're itching to return to Night City.
Of course, this stream will be broadcast after Gamescom Opening Night Live, which takes place a couple of days earlier, on the 22nd August. It's already been confirmed that Phantom Liberty will get a gameplay trailer during Geoff Keighley's event.

I'm really glad CDPR was able to turn this one around. I thoroughly enjoyed the release version (bugs and all) on the X1X and it seems to have only gotten better since ditching last gen.
I haven't touched Cyberpunk since I finished it (got the Nomad ending and it was glorious). But I will definitely dive back into when the DLC drops.
Didn't CDPR say that the ending will change based on if you complete the DLC?
@GamingFan4Lyf I on the other hand was wishing it to fail and it annoys me that it didn't.
Every lazy release that ends up successful does nothing more than to teach the devs that you can release lazy products and no one will care.
@LifeGirl proudly proclaiming ill will and accusing that a hardworking team of devs is lazy, though the error was due to bad executive decisions... just sad on your part
@GamingFan4Lyf Yeah Phantom Liberty is supposed to be adding a new ending.
@LifeGirl The thing is...people did care. It was pulled from Sony's digital store for a while until it was in a proper state. Refunds were rampant. It got blasted from every corner of the internet! It was not pretty. It did not get a free pass.
CDPR acknowledged its failure and worked to turn it around. It went full on transparent on how it was going to fix things. It took a long time to regain consumer trust.
It should have never released in the state it did; but rather than shrug it off, CDPR owned up to it and learned from it.
It wasn't successful because it was Cyberpunk 2077. It became successful because CDPR worked hard to turn it around.
Sure, some of the promises never came to fruition, but it was still a compelling game that needed improvement and was improved.
Honestly, Cyberpunk has turned into a decent game. I'm glad they finally addressed and resolved the issues. However, it's still difficult for me to fully trust them, considering their misleading marketing. So, I approach the trailers with a grain of salt because I'm uncertain about what is genuinely true and what isn't.
@LifeGirl Forgiveness and redemption is a concept older then any of us put together. I know the angry gamer internet mob love to hate hate hate but i feel if earned redemption and forgiveness should be giving. CDPR screwed up big time but instead of cutting and running they turned the game round massively and for that i feel they have redeemed themselves mostly.
@LifeGirl @DennisReynolds @GamingFan4Lyf Just to add my opinion to this, I think a lot is riding on Phantom Liberty and this update. If the expansion is really good and the update does what's been promised and basically makes this Cyberpunk 2.0, then I think CDPR will have redeemed itself and delivered a great game (I personally think 2077 is great right now, with the right expectations).
Having said that, the game's utterly disastrous release will never be forgotten — and rightly so. But making a mistake doesn't mean you have to be defined by it, and I'm glad to see CDPR sticking to its guns.
And we know redemptions are possible. Hello Games has done it and agree that if CDPR nails this update and DLC, then I will forgive, just not forget. I am looking forward to this update as they clearly did not rush it.
But honestly, their issues have made us all and the industry smarter on what the dev says pre-launch and what we expect to be delivered. I feel their mistake is something that has made them better, but likely made SOME other dev executives better and not to make the same mistakes of pushing something not ready to hit a date and/or number.
@ShogunRok I would say that the Cyberpunk 2077 release was an industry-changing moment - both from the way things are advertised and hyped as well as how studios should conduct business internally.
Look at the amount of game delays that happen now.
Crunch culture went under a serious microscope.
Slave labor-like working conditions hit the forefront.
Shareholders over developers came into focus.
Yes, Covid was a huge factor, but I also think Cyberpunk is another.
Studios would rather take care of employees, listen to developers, and delay games to avoid another Cyberpunk. That's not such a bad thing.
A cyberpunk comments section thats not full of hate and vitriol? I'm happy to see it. Cyberpunk should never have released the way it did but CDPR bit the bullet and turned it around. I've yet to finish the game because i just dont have the time to dedicate to it but i really intend too at some point. Again its nice to see people standing by cyberpunk 👍
Can't wait for Phantom Liberty. CP77 was a phenomenal experience.
I need this to be a Witcher 3 level expansion.
Imagine if they added a VR mode for PSVR2, like No Man’s Sky did. It would be an amazing game to offer in VR and could encourage further sales.
Hopefully they will add street racing and more arcade games, something similar to how Like a Dragon does side activities.
The game as it is now is amazing, but some times it feels repetitive when doing the side activities.
