Ahead of its PS5 and PS4 release in just a few short weeks, we've been handed a quick glimpse of gameplay from Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered.
As you'd expect, this reworking of the duology — which was originally split between the PS1 and PS2 — looks like a solid upgrade in the graphical department. The resolution's obviously been given a huge boost and higher quality assets have been installed.
The trailer's only 40 seconds long, but this footage is still going to evoke some heavy nostalgia in those who experienced the original games. Honestly, just seeing Raziel pull his cape back in order to suck up some souls is enough to sell us on a long-awaited replay.

I have such fond memories playing this in my teen years. Nostalgia is a fickle bitch though, I'll find out in a few weeks.
I am looking forward to this. The perfect Christmas game. 😊
Soul Reaver has the worst ending ever. Imagine beating it in the week after release and hitting that screen. Don’t get me started on 2. Makes my head hurt.
Nostalgia XD looking forward to play it~ (again ;D)
The voice actors for this game are in another game from that era that could use a remaster:
Sword of Berserk: Guts' Rage.
Just saying.
Still mulling over if I want to pre-order this one for the 10% off.
Really hope this sells well enough to maybe justify a new game at some stage
@SuperSilverback Seems like Embracer is happy for now at least. They said pre-orders are higher than expected.
Pre-ordered.
If they do a physical release which has a holographic cover I'd 110% double dip
I neeeeeeeeeeeeeeed a disc for this one. Please dont make me wait too long
Just got Blood Omen 1 in preparation (you can buy it separately). Gonna play it ahead of Soul Reaver 1 and 2!!
I hope these hold up in 2024. They were some of my favorite games back in the day.
Looking good, I remember really liking this game way back on psone, this and the first game has better writing than most of new games I think lol
I’m assuming this will hit native 4k120 on base ps5?
Already preordered it.
It seems preorder numbers are surpassing expectations, Embracer is rather pleased.
Good sign for the continuation of this epic IP's revival.
I hope they get Amy Hennig back on board and do a proper franchise reboot, starting with Kain and his transformation, adding more story, maybe even cover the interim time periods not included in the old games etc.
There is so much potential here, if only they give it a proper shot.
I rented the game years ago, but didn't get very far at all. I'm looking forward to replaying the game with a (somewhat) more mature mindset
@freddquadros I never played the original Blood Omen, it’s the only game in the series I haven’t played. I’m so excited I can finally give it a try! For all of its flaws I loved 2.
Why do so many people still cling to the desperate hope that preordering remasters is going to in any way influence the IP? Despite likely being unable to name a single time where remaster sales of an old game was said to have influenced a sequel.
@HONOTO erm… Mass Effect?
@HONOTO
Erm Crash Bandicoot 4 happened because of how well the N Sane Trilogy did
I remember when you guys posted the questionnaire they put out in an article here. I responded along with many other readers, so it's got to be in part thanks to PushSquare this happened. Cheers, guys!
@Dragoon1994 @HONOTO fair play, thats interesting. So now ive got two examples- but that small a pool shouldnt really entice anyone into buying a remaster on the vague hope that at some time in the future the developers maybe might possibly bargain to try and get a sequel out. I still feel the purchase should be for the game and only the quality of that specific game and not as "merch" to fund the team. Or else something rather dangerous happens and remasters start to look like a very easy way to make money off of expectations
@Odium Already started. It's a veeery old game, but I'm getting used to it. Having save states it's a blessing!!
