Star Wars Outlaws certainly had some teething issues at launch, and Ubisoft appears to be addressing them head-on, if perhaps a tad tardy some three months later. Still, Title Update 1.4.0 goes live today, November 21st, on PS5. It will do away with those forced stealth sections during story missions and make major changes to the open-world game.
In a third developer update, post-launch creative director Drew Rechner runs players through some of the larger alterations (thanks, GamesRadar+). The biggest is perhaps "removing forced stealth from almost all quest objectives". Rather than fail and restart from a checkpoint, now you'll simply transition to combat; revolutionary stuff, we know.
Combat is now available in all syndicate districts, whereas this was previously only possible during stealth sequences. The enemy weapons you find in the field can be kept for longer, enemies have additional weak points, and the addition of "positioning and timing tactics" will supposedly make combat more engaging and dynamic.
Are you willing to give Star Wars Otlaws another shot? Is it too little, too late, or do these alterations sound appealing to you? Let us know in the comments section below.

I was quite enjoying Outlaws but took a forced break because... I can't buy a disc drive for my PS5 Pro :/
I can't be forced into touching this game, no matter what ...
This is great stuff, but it begs the question, why on earth was it allowed to release in the way it was, not only did it do the gamers who bought it a disservice but also the developers, as clearly they weren’t ready to ship it given how many key features are making their way into the game only now.
Ubisoft keeps trying to over monetise and chase trends without realising that’s not what’s gonna keep people around buying your games, what keeps people around is releasing FINISHED and POLISHED titles.
I’m looking forward to starting my Outlaws playthrough soon but can’t help but feel it should’ve been coming out around now, especially with how Shadows was delayed anyway.
@Voltan I am also trying to find a disc drive, heard rumors there could be another batch at the start of December.... but that could be cope.
Promising stuff. If Ubisoft keeps updating the game and improving combat (and other aspects), I'll certainly buy it.
@DonJorginho It was allowed to release the way it was because too many gamers have no standards.
The devs know, provably so with multiple examples, that they are rarely punished by releasing crap. Such games are now greeted with an expectant sigh rather than outrage.
I will never buy No Man's Sky, Fallout 76 or Cyberpunk. Yes I know that I am missing out on great games but that is my personal moral standard. I will not give you money if you think so little of me. And if everyone followed suit, suddenly, miraculously, we would start getting good games again.
Why wasn’t it there in the first place?
This is what kept me away from buying the game at release so Im way more tempted now. Perhaps at a future sale when Im done with the games Im playing now.
What is the PS5 Pro upgrade like.
I think I read it was sort of very minimal overall.
This is one game I can wait until it hits PS+
@Voltan this is what’s holding me back from buying the pro because of the disc drive Sony needs to sort this out asap
Just in time for the inevitable Black Friday/Ubisoft discount. Perfect.
@Oram77 @Voltan I was able to get a disc drive by using the Hot Stock app, which notifies you when online stores get them in stock. It's free if you just sign up for notifications. But there are a couple paid options that allow you to get notifications sooner or for an auto-buy feature. I just used the free option. They get bought up almost instantaneously but if you stick with it and work on getting through the checkout process as quickly as possible you can land one. It took me a few days of trying and I finally got one through GameStop. I'm in the US, so if you're in another country I'm unsure if it's possible to get them elsewhere doing the same. Best of luck!
Can't wait when they announce version 1.0 is coming out.
Nice, i managed to find a copy for £25 and it turned up yesterday… might be a nice game to play over Christmas.
@Pat_trick What? You want to go back to the day 1 release with no patches?
Yes now I will pickup this since I was interested but didn’t like those negative reviews. Will pickup on Black Friday sale, perfect timing
@Nexozi No, my joke was that the game is still not finished.
Already finished and enjoyed it, this will definitively make it more fun for those who are yet to jump in but if you want action, stick to the EA Jedi games (can't believe I am saying that).
Sadly that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this game's problems.
@DonJorginho Forced stealth sections are nothing new to video games. Doesn't make it great design though.
You can't polish a turd but you can roll it in glitter
So, let me get this straight, you're telling me the same people who did Division, Avatar and other games with stealth elements can't fix stealth in this game and decided to remove it as a requirement for certain quests?
Game industry needs a Razzie awards.
Should have been released today. Today I'm gonna start my first playthrough (swo and stalker 2)
The sad reality is that they missed the real issues paying attention to a loud vocal minority. The forces stealth is nothing of an issue compared to combat/stealth as a whole because of terrible enemy AI. From what I've widely seen reported this was the primary issue gameplay wise.
I wouldn't touch this for anything more than 20 bones. The black Friday sale is only down to 40 physical, probably worse on ps store.
@LifeGirl You best sell your consoles and never buy anything that isn't a small Indie because guess what Corps think nothing of you not little. Irony is of course Hello Games think way more of you then Sony ever will yet you will own a PS5 but refuse to even try a game like NMS because it had a bad launch.
@OldGamer999 Basically quality mode at 60fps. Its not perfect mind you and still looks off but its the best way to play it on console.
@kcarnes9051 I don’t think that’s a thing in Europe. Also, while the supply is low, even the official retailers were selling them at inflated prices which I refuse to pay (and they still sold out within minutes every time).
I for one really enjoyed the game, stealth sections and flaws and all. In a way the stealth sections where you had to restart from a checkpoint made some sense from a story perspective since you werent supposed to be caught but it was badly implemented. But I guess this change is easier, and makes the game more fun to play.
Feels like a lot of people ***** on this game for reasons other than what the game is. If you´ve played it and found its not for you, fair enough!
This is a nice addition. I am most looking forward to being able to carry guns up ladders. Was a lost art in the future and they learned probably by a freak accident. Maybe they always had a jedi at the top using the force to bring the weapons up. Honestly I'm glad they are putting the work in to fix a star wars game. I'll get back to it after this upcoming patch.
Great, I got it a few days ago. When I will start it, it should be great
@Pat_trick Ah, I thought u were against the changes and wanted people to be forced through the stealth fail part. 😂
Been waiting for this update before cracking on with the game. Once I’m done with Slitterhead I’ll give it my full attention!
@Nexozi No one would be that evil! 😂
5 more trophies to go. Then I'll delete it. Hope they also fixed the memory dump issue at bases, when you get alerted and enemies keep on spawning, causing the game to go at 1fps. That killed the whole experience for me.
I preferred Days Gone. Such a better game when it comes to open world bike riding.
I think I'm one of the few who never had an issue with the stealth mechanics. But I'm happy people who hated them don't have to endure them anymore. I'm still waiting for some actual new content (dlc/expansions) because my main criticism is that the game felt too short and the space combat didn't play a large enough part.
Own it all but took break as work worn me down, I'll go back when all dlc out.
We should only purchase single player games a year after release to give the devs time to finish them. Obviously it doesn’t hold for online yearly games like CoD and sports games but for a game like this, what’s the rush? 🤷🏻♂️
I do make exceptions for some Nintendo first party games, those tend not to release broken, don’t get updated a lot, and rarely go on sale anyway so the price is the price, but even there I don’t think I’ve purchased a game this year as I wait to see what Switch 2 can do for them.
I can't wait to punch more stormtroopers in the head...with my bare fists
@DennisReynolds
Thank you for reply.
Yes it’s weird how this game looks off.
Some have said it’s better to play on all consoles with black bars top and bottom.
If you don’t the image looks off and stretched.
It being one of the nominations for best adventure games at The Game Awards is beyond laughable.
Why does this feel a bit pointless? Like they have changed the game due to people shouting on the interenet, people that still aren't going to buy the game anyway 😅
Unless Push will be doing a new review, as they definitely took points off for the 'forced stealth'? 👀
Then it's a win for Ubisoft...
Right?!
Right?!?!?!?!
Great, will download the update and continue playing it today. I'm enjoying the game, advanced a lot in it, but there is so much to see yet!!!
@DonJorginho It blows my mind that, to fight the narrative/stereotype that Ubisoft games aren't worth buying at launch, they release a major AAA tentpole release in such a busted state that they then spend months overhauling entire underlying systems, resulting in what will (good or bad) feel like a totally different game.
While I will of course commend them for addressing player concerns, the fact they need to perform such a massive systems overhaul so far after release is a testament to just how true that narrative is. Ubisoft games are not worth buying for full price at launch. Full stop. Not only are they less stable, but they could be completely different games mere months after release (let alone cheaper).
If they would just give their dev teams time to cook instead of pushing for specific release dates, they'd probably save boat loads of money in the end AND make more. Right now, there's a bit of a stink on Outlaws (not one of my Star Wars-loving friends even remembers it came out, let alone bought it) that may have been avoided had they simply waited and addressed issues like this before release.
They make a mockery of themselves and then wonder why consumers aren't buying their titles. They're insane.
Looking forward to playing this after I finish Stellar Blade
@Voltan Hopefully Sony understands that there are many of us whom still like our physical media. And the PS6 better have an option for a drive. I hope you can get a drive soon at the manufacturer suggested price.
For me it's not too little, too late. More like too early. This game clearly isn't polished or updated enough for my tastes xD funny how the game is also at its cheapest, when it's at its best
Annoyingly they still haven't sorted out the colour banding on HDR modes especially on tatooine! Drop HDR mode off though, and it's much better.
Really have been thoroughly enjoying the game for the last 3 weeks
@MFTWrecks even if they were given time to cook the upper management had been employing more junior staff into management roles whilst experienced staff were being ignored and leaving. All in order to save money and cut costs.
Do away with the forced online registration and I'll bite.
@rjejr Ubisoft should release complete editions fully patched then we could really play a complete functional game.
@DennisReynolds You have bad launches and BAD launches. A NMS was a working game from day one with minor issues. The PS4 version of Cyberpunk was a example of a BAD launch I don't even know if they fixed the complete game already.
@Voltan that’s ridiculous if European retailers are selling above Sony’s price. I feel for you!
Really makes you wonder why anyone would buy a game on day one when all developers seem to do is either fix it due being a buggy mess or make changes to how it plays due to negative feedback. Always better to wait for the sales.
Fine update, but I already beat the game a while ago. I enjoyed it the way it was, although I do look forward to returning to it when the DLC drops and experiencing it with some of the changes.
@LifeGirl I can appreciate you keeping too your morals. But......... you could buy copies used and it wouldn't be morally objectionable because you aren't rewarding them with money. Course you would get counted as a new player....
CP2077 is so crazy good, sucks if you had to miss it
Remember when you had to get good at difficult games and developers couldn't make them easier just because you're useless at gaming? Can we bring those days back please?
Id been meaning to pick this up for a while, but the stealth was a big sticking point.
With this patch and the black friday sale, i finally pulled the trigger and am happy i did. Its a fun game. I dont much care for the lead character, but the world itself after 5 hours is enjoyable and rich.
@FuzzieGinge88
Having lived through those days, im happy we live in an era when difficulty is a choice.
99% of games have easy modes but also have hard modes. Dont like easy? Change the toggle.
@Runex2121 I'm all for player choice if that's how the game was intended to be, but going back and changing or removing things because people complain is what I don't like. As I said, we used to have to get good, not whine to the developer to get them to change it. I lost count of the amount of times I got caught in Splinter Cell Conviction, yet because i didn't have the option to complain, I got better and managed to beat it 🤷♂️🤷♂️
@FuzzieGinge88 These days though, most of is would just not play anymore. I know I cant be bothered to play games that dont respect my time. Its a hobby, and as such is quite a bit lower in priority than other parts of life. When I was younger and had more time, sure. I put hundreds of hours into beating ghouls n ghosts on the genesis when it came out. Stupid deaths and all. However, those are not fond memories.
In this particular instance though, they appear to have taken away a mechanic without the option to bring it back, so I can understand being annoyed a little.
