Re: PS4 Console Sales Limp to Just Over 116 Million

Octane

@ArcadeHeroes They were for a good while, that's what counts. Any game gets ported to another platform at some point, so it's a moot point really. Besides, anything is playable on PS5, so if you want to be really pedantic, nothing is exclusive on PS4.

Re: Astro's Playroom PS5 Dev Team Asobi Teases 'Most Ambitious Game Yet' on New Website

@lolwhatno I got my PSVR for €180 (came with VR Worlds). I got Astro Bot and a bunch of other VR games on sale for 10 each (mere months after Astro Bot came out). 4 VR games for €10 each is €40, with the system itself it's €220 total. That's €55 on average per game, and the VR system itself can be considered free. It's less than four brand new AAA games. And I got VR Worlds and a bunch of other stuff for free as well. It's not that bad if you look at it this way. And the more games you buy, the less the cost per game will be.

Re: Digimon Survive Delayed Yet Again, This Time into 2022

There was hardly a trailer, was there? The 10 seconds they showed had some cheap flash animations, so I can't say it looked good to begin with. Hopefully it has considerably changed. Digimon games always looked worse than Pokemon games somehow, and that's not easy.

Re: Tencent Tables $1.3 Billion Takeover of Sackboy Dev Sumo Digital

@solocapers Yeah, exactly. Just like how they control their own media, they also want control of foreign media, to control the way China is portrayed in the media. And it will work in the long term.

In Chinese media you don't hear about the protests in Hong Kong for example. Most probably don't even have a clue what's going on. The Uyghurs, who are they?

Re: Looks Like The Last of Us 2 Has Been Permanently Discounted on PS Store

Why does it matter how much a game sells? Since when if FIFA the best game ever? The game was a success, that much is clear, who cares if it ''beat'' GOW or not.

Besides, if the game was as bad as some make it out to be, you wouldn't notice that in sales. Cause you'd have to play it first; you'd know if the sequel/part 3 would do a lot worse. That would be evidence, not the game itself.

And maybe people didn't buy it at launch because some couldn't stop bickering about how it ruined gaming even before it came out.

Re: Hideo Kojima Isn't a Fan of Calling Death Stranding PS5 'Director's Cut'

@lolwhatno I'm usually not a big fan of open world games, but this one clicked for me. I think it's because you can essentially set the difficulty yourself. The more cargo you take on your journey, the harder it becomes. But the trade-off is that you can complete more quests simultaneously, or in a shorter amount of time, so I kept pushing myself to go for the limit every time, and the result was a very challenging game.

The reason why ''people'' call it a walking sim is because you do deliveries. But it's not as easy as walking from one place to another. The terrain can be a giant obstacle, and the more cargo you carry, the harder it is to balance yourself. You're always engaged with the game, because you have to keep adjusting your balance and watch the terrain. That's why it's completely different from mindlessly walking from A to B, like in any other open world game.

There are enemies and monsters, and there is combat, you can avoid it, you can engage in combat, it's all up to you. You can get more resources, upgrade stuff, build stuff, build vehicles, roads, charging stations, etc.

The story is absolutely mental. It doesn't make a lot of sense I think. There's some logic to it, but it's all so weird. It was definitely fun to experience, and it wasn't bad, just incredibly weird. But in the end there's coherence in the story, and there is lore that kinda makes sense. But again, it's just very absurd. I liked it quite a lot, but I can see that it's not for everyone.

Re: Poll: Does Sony Need a Big PS5 Showcase This Summer?

Octane

They should time it right. Not really a fan of the small showcases. Doesn't need to be a full E3 conference, but if it has a Horizon trailer, maybe the first GOW trailer, and another big game, GT7 or Forspoken, add in a couple of indie announcements. Just something new and something to get excited about. Just save up the trailers until you have enough.

Re: Random: Turns Out the PS1's Boot Up Logo Is a 3D Model

Octane

@HotGoomba Could still have been a pre-rendered image of a 3D model, you wouldn't know the difference!

Everyone can see it's a 3D model, but that doesn't mean it had to be rendered in 3D every time you boot up the system. Since there's no alternate viewing angles, it makes just as much sense for it to be a pre-rendered image.

Re: Sony Acquisition of Bluepoint Games Supposedly Leaked by Image Mistake

Octane

@JustPlainLoco I mean, I don't disagree! It's just that a company buying another company isn't as easy as Google just walking in claiming it with a big bag of cash. Bluepoint can always say no if they want to keep developing for Sony. And I would assume they would approach Sony first saying, ''hey, Google offered us this to buy us out, do you have a counter offer''. I just wonder how much of a danger a sudden buy-out would actually be. I don't think it was something to worry about.

Re: Sony Acquisition of Bluepoint Games Supposedly Leaked by Image Mistake

Octane

@JustPlainLoco To be fair, you can't just buy a studio. It is an agreement between both parties. So if another studio approached Bluepoint, they certainly would discuss possibilities with Sony first, I assume there was already some sort of mutual agreement between the two.

For a studio like Ready at Dawn, I don't think they saw much potential. The Order wasn't a big hit. And who knows what else was at play. They certainly know more than we do!
