For some players this will be a big blow if it is exclusive. My friend and I are huge fans of coop Wrpgs. It started with Divinity 1. One of the main reasons he likes his Xbox so much is because he knows they will be home to a ton of these games. We had a blast with Wasteland 3 for example.
If Sony did make a deal it's a savvy one for this crowd. It's a niche market but Larian is probably the best studio in the world at making crpgs and this game will almost certainly be the best crpgs for years.
I have all platforms so I can play it regardless but it will be a bummer if I can't with my friend. I might just have to hold out for a possible Xbox version but I don't know if I will have the patience lol. This is GOTY material for me.
This is where gaming is going. Big companies are consolidating all the talent they can for their platforms. Microsoft is the first to act in this new wave but Sony and Nintendo are already well established and fine.
The companies who are really getting hit up are the gaming hopefuls like Apple, Amazon, Tencent, who have the money to do this but are slow to act.
We are going to see many more acquisitions from all companies that can afford it and want to be serious players. This is where gaming has been going for a while.
@truerbluer That depends. Do I want to watch the series ASAP? Do I mind waiting for better quality? Either way I still get to watch my show and either way the makers of my show get my money and are happy.
In gaming terms, I'm a console gamer first, PC guy distant second. I will prefer to buy my games on consoles. That said, if I was a PC guy first I would be happy that I get the chance to buy and play a game where I want and I don't have to spend additional money on hardware I may not need.
My second favorite GTA. I actually really loved the simulation route they went here. They put a LOT of detail into the pedestrians and city. Things were a bit unpredictable, peds could pull out guns, the cops actually arrested people and didn't just shoot them.
The firefights were very gritty and realistic, you would see street shootouts lead to glass breaking, people falling over with physic, just really cool hard hitting stuff.
I really understand why people are so fear-stricken by games going to PC. You still have your console, you will still enjoy great games on your console. PC gamers get to play them too, people who don't want to play console get to play on their preferred platform. It doesn't hurt you as a console gamer in any way.
@Gamer83 Why sell it? Why get rid of a cash cow? It's still a great studio and they are going to make a hell of a lot of money. No need to sell it off just because of some upset fans. The easier solution, if you are that worried about optics, is to put the game on PS Now.
@MemSec I don't know, I suppose there may be a huge portion of owners who are subbed but I do think it's more so the core gamers and thrifty types who really buy into game pass.
I do think publishers like it, obviously, they get paid (different ways to do so) but it is really good exposure and people are for sure seeing your work.
All of these business are in it for the money but developers also like knowing people are actually getting to experience their games, something like game pass helps ensure more people are engaging with your work.
@MemSec People can and still will buy the game. Not even every Xbox owner has gamepass and game pass subscribers can still buy the game for a discount. It's exposure, it's a huge check from Microsoft, it's game sales on all platforms. They are gaining, not losing.
What always gets lost in the Game Pass talk is that you also get to buy these games at a discount. So not only do PC and Xbox players get to play as part of a sub, they will get the option to buy it for cheaper than $70.
I think it would be a great gesture of Sony to add the game to PS Plus or at least PS Now just to not have the series loyalist feel left out.
Hard for me to imagine being blown away after seeing the Xbox stuff. I expect it to be in the same ball park but if they offer up some big surprises we didn't see coming, I wll really be shocked and awed. Excited for tomorrow.
Ballsy article. I like it! PlayStation owners/fans have nothing to be insecure about in regards to games. Don't worry about who gets to play games. The PlayStation brand isn't going anywhere. If any of this somehow hurts Sony they will stop and reverse, they have the ability to do that.
If any of this helps Sony they will make more money and continue to be better than ever when it comes to making games. Ultimately you only need to be worrying about YOU being able to play the best games possible.
As long as what Sony is doing continues to allow for that, be content and reap all the benefits. You aren't being hurt if you aren't the only person who gets to enjoy a great game.
The time to get upset or complain is if Sony makes some horrible games or releases a terrible console.
Sometimes AAA games just don't hit it big. Why they are always a risk. UK wasn't feeling Death Stranding, is what it is. Game probably has done well enough in other markets to keep Kojima going.
While this is unfortunate it may not be as bad as it seems. Obsidian could have very well not had plans to enhance this game on the Pro or 1X, it takes extra resources.
None of their other games release on PS4 or Xbox have gotten the Pro and X treatment.
Microsoft pushes their inhouse developers hard on making games look better on the 1X.
It makes since that after they purchased Obsidian last year, they would do whatever it took for them to enhance the game on their platform.
Now it could be more nefarious than that, which would be a shame but it shouldn't make or break the game for anyone. There have been other games this has happened with for various reasons.
Hope for a post release patch. I'm sure the game will still look just fine regardless. If you want to pass on it, that's your prerogative but I wouldn't pass up on a game I am excited play because of something like this.
That said, let the developers know you want this enhanced on PS4 as well, at least they will know their is a vocal desire for it.

Funny how everyone on here magically has an Xbox now and will opt for that version lol .

GTA 5 dumbed most of that down.

I used to think Smart Deliver was kind of a gimmick but damn, it has really paid off in these first 9 months.
Re: Wreckfest Update Adds Seamless PS4 to PS5 Save Transfer
@Topov81 That really sucks. Sony needs to invest some money into making this FAR easier.
Re: Wreckfest Update Adds Seamless PS4 to PS5 Save Transfer
@Milktastrophe It's not an Xbox sabatoge problem it's PlayStation's mediocre implementation of backwards compatibility.
Re: God of War Ragnarok Delayed to 2022 for PS5, Sony Confirms
Not surprised by the delay but am surprised by it coming to PS4.

Re: PS4 Exclusive Horizon: Zero Dawn Confirmed for PC in Summer 2020
More money for Sony and Guerilla which can mean more games. This is a good thing.
Re: Death Stranding Is No Longer a PS4 Exclusive from 2nd June
Have no problems with games going to PC. They should give PS4 owners the photo mode too though. Only reason to exclude is if the PS4 can't handle it/

Not surprised. I think this is great news as the game looked like it needed more polish. I look forward to it!
