Re: Talking Point: How Have the First Reviews Affected Your Anticipation for PS4?

Reverend_Skeeve

No, nothing has changed for me. I read reviews to check on other opinions and perspectives, but they hardly influence my own, especially since I tend do often disagree with some points stated in reviews. What one reviewer criticizes about a game might not bother me at all and so I might still enjoy the game a lot.

Although there are sites like Pushsquare that manage to explain why they give a game a bad or less than perfect score, so a game recommended by you guys might be one I'd check out even if it wasn't on my radar before...Sammy helped a lot with my anticipation for Resogun...

Re: Your 500GB PS4 Is Essentially a 400GB PS4

Reverend_Skeeve

@Heshmagray Hey Ash, and welcome as a poster!

I agree with you that 1TB is too small if one goes through the hustle of changing the HDD in the first place, so I'm aiming for at least 2TB. The Seagate I posted up there is the first 2TB HDD that would fit into the PS4, afaik. There's no release date yet, but I'd guess it launches soon, so you should be good until your 500GB HDD runs out of space.

I don't know where you live, but Amazon sells 1.5TB drives that fit. This one, for example.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Seagate%20Momentus%20500GB%20SATA%202.5%20inch%20Internal%20Hard%20Drive%20OEM

Personally, I'd wait for a 2TB model, though...should be big enough to hold lots of PSN downloads and also the 4-5 disk-installs one might playing at any particular time.

Re: You Can Download the PS4's Day One Update Right Now

Reverend_Skeeve

@Tackleberry_dk Cool, thanks for the feedback! Since I downloaded it too, I should be fine and ready to go on the 29th.

And good to hear that the PS4 is amazing...can't wait to get hands-on time myself! Have you checked out any games yet? Are you allowed to talk about that?

Re: You Can Download the PS4's Day One Update Right Now

Reverend_Skeeve

@Tackleberry_dk *twitch You...already...have one?! *twitch Aaand where do you live, exactly?

No, all jokin aside...in this case, I'd mail Sony customer support and ask them...only way to be sure you won't brick your system because you install an incompatible update. I'm pretty sure it would work, but pretty sure might not be good enough...

Re: You Can Download the PS4's Day One Update Right Now

Reverend_Skeeve

@Tackleberry_dk Not sure about that...I live in Europe as well (Germany) but downloaded the Update anyway, just to be sure. I'd guess it works on all PS4 globally, especially since the PS4 is region free...but I'm sure this will be clarified closer to Nov. 29th on the European Playstation Blog...

Yours,

Steve

Re: You Can Download the PS4's Day One Update Right Now

Reverend_Skeeve

@get2sammyb Indeed. Downloading right now. I'm pretty sure my internet will hold up, especially since Sony has two more weeks to work out all the kinks until the European launch, but better safe than sorry! And having several options is always good service in my book.

Oh...and when are we gonna see your five games of the generation?

Re: Sony Will Pump Up PS4's Volume with MP3 and CD Support Soon

Reverend_Skeeve

@nathanuc1988 Ah, cool! Thanks for the info! Will preorder Killzone today...hope I still get the codes.n But even if not...a victory-gesture, an OWL-skin and the soundtrack aren't essential enough for me to grief should it not work. Mainly hyped for Shadowfall the game...more so than hardly any game during the last years!

Re: Sony Will Pump Up PS4's Volume with MP3 and CD Support Soon

Reverend_Skeeve

I'm glad they're gonna deliver the feature after launch, but I'm with @Gamer83 on this one and have to mildly call bs on this...no one thought or talked about these features? Really? After the whole rest of the PS4 concept and system is so well thought out and designed? Riiiight...

Sonys attitude has changed a whole lot over the last years and I'm super glad it did, but this is the same company that dissed MS for their lack of backward-compatibility back in the days and removed the feature on PS3 a few month afterwards, so it more looks to me that this was just a little lingering bit of the "old Sony".

Re: How Does the PS4 Deal with Those Massive Mandatory Installs?

Reverend_Skeeve

@EyeDeeNO76 Samsung announced a 2TB 2.5" HDD with a hight of 9.5mm very recently...it should be available soon...and there's already several HDDs with 1 or 1.5TB available that fit into the PS4.

But you're right, HDDs with 15mm hight will not fit into the PS4. As Sony stated in a FAQ on the Playstation Blog, the HDD has to have a hight of 9.5mm to fit. But as I said, there's already several available and the 2TB model will be released soon. And 2TB is what I'm aiming at when I upgrade.

@TromboneGamer I beg to differ...with the game on a physical medium, you at least still have access to your game, should the digital version being pulled of the server for some reason. Plus, personally, I like a nice box in my shelf.

Re: How Does the PS4 Deal with Those Massive Mandatory Installs?

Reverend_Skeeve

I'm not surprised that install/caching is mandatory...and I don't mind...500 Gig will last me for a while and Samsung just recently announced a 2TB HDD that is compatible with the PS4 specs, so I'm gonna swap a few month down the road. My savegames will be saved in the cloud anyway, thanks to PS+ and having to re-download some PSN Games once after swapping the discs is bearable for me, so I'm good.

Actually, I appreciate the installs...less noise, more speed and less wear on the Blu-Ray drive...I always chose to install games to HDD on my 360, so this is nothing new or annoying for me.

Re: Poll: What Are Your Plans for the PS4's Launch?

Reverend_Skeeve

@odd69 Not wanna upset you or rant back or anything, but I find your rant a little bit unfair. Sony already stated that they plan to have stock available that doesn't go into the preorder contingent but is for shops who want to sell the PS4 to customers who haven't preordered on launch day. So if you get up early and check big retailers in your area, you probably should be able to snag up a system.

Personally, I preordered my PS4 in June at Amazon. They don't charge a cent before they ship your order, so I am safe to get my PS4 on launch and have time to safe the money until Nov. 25th or so. And you don't even need a credit card for that, it also works with your bank account.

It was known for a long time that demand would outstrip stock around launch, so this should hardly come as a surprise. It was the same during the launch of current gen. It's a perfectly normal business decision that production starts as late as possible to minimize loss for the company. And because of limited stock it's perfectly viable in my opinion that stores stopped taking preorders. What sense would it make to take 'em if you can't fulfill them? Imagine the outburst if people who preordered around two weeks before launch suddenly get told they won't get their system in time.

Again: don't want to start a fight here, but complaining (and cursing) about stuff that's been known for month and acting like the stores and Sony are on a personal vendetta against people who didn't preorder rubs me the wrong way.

Re: Poll: What Are Your Plans for the PS4's Launch?

Reverend_Skeeve

Still not sure if I can scrape together the money till launch (or if wife lets me to...cough...reassign some money from other budgets, but should everything work out, I have my PS4 preordered from Amazon.de with overnight quick delivery, so it's supposed to reach me during the morning of 29th, together with Killzone. I have the day off with only a short thing to do during the afternoon, so I should have plenty of time to play.
I do have a daughter, however...so I might just use the day to download the patch and all f2p games and Resogun and such and later, when the little one is asleep, waste away the night in next gen glory.

Concerning rations, I'll go with chicken, energy drinks and maybe some cough tobacco-additives to get in the groove.

Re: Talking Point: Are You Upgrading Your Television in Preparation for PS4?

Reverend_Skeeve

I'm still quite happy with my 46" FullHD Sharp LED. 't has wonderful colors, still and the black levels ain't too bad. Sooner or later, I will upgrade to a bigger OLED-TV, but not too soon. Simply can't afford it. But sometimes down the road I want something around 60" or so...the bigger, the better.

@FullbringIchigo Sorry to hear that. And while I still can use both eyes, I also can't see 3D, so this holds no appeal for me as well.

@adf86 Well, technically, the PS4 can output 480p, but it has only HDMI out, so I don't know how easy it would be to connect it to your screen. I'd recommend to upgrade to a small HDTV, though, if you can afford it. The PS4 is designed all around 1080p, so you might wanna hop on board the FullHD train to get the most glorious experience. Don't know how much money you have to spare, but 32" HDTVs are quite affordable and should offer a superior experience to your current setup.

Thoshiba, Sharp and Samsung offer excellent TVs for a small price, so maybe check 'em out. You'd love to have FullHD with PS4, I'm sure.

Re: Review: Call of Duty: Ghosts (PlayStation 4)

Reverend_Skeeve

@get2sammyb Yeah, I have been reading here since the Feb. reveal of youknowwhat and even "back then" the site was good to read. And, as I said before, I especially enjoy the community here. And I didn't perceive the review as CoD Ghosts being a bad game. As written by Ben, I expected the Game to be more of the same (just shinier) sp-wise and a refined offering of the beloved mp-part...which it is, it would seem. Which is fine. I'm sure the set pieces are all bombastic and such, but I hardly play mp at all (too many screaming teens and morons) and the ooh rah!-esque single player "stories" of modern fps' are getting too tiresome and just bad for my liking.

So the review just reconfirmed what I expected: mediocre single player and a refined mp-offering for the fans.

Much more looking forward to Killzone. The game looks gorgeous, the mp seems fun and fresh and the single player has a very interesting setting...especially since the presumed good guys might not seem so good after all. Also, I live in Berlin, Germany, so this cold war/city divided by a huge wall setting is of particular interest for me.

Re: Review: Call of Duty: Ghosts (PlayStation 4)

Reverend_Skeeve

@Confused_Dude @get2sammyb Awesome, can't wait to hear what you guys have to say about the differences. Again, good review. You guys not buying into the CoD-hype and giving an honest opinion about a launch-next-gen blockbuster just reconfirmes why I appreciate Pushsquare so much. Don't comment always, but I read pretty much everything you guys post on this site and enjoy all your work a lot! Keep up the excellent work!

Re: Review: Call of Duty: Ghosts (PlayStation 4)

Reverend_Skeeve

Good review, giving a good, un-fanboyish impression of how the game is. But, this being the very first PS4 review on this site, I'd like to have read more about the technical side...y'know...graphics and stuff. I mean, this is the first PS4 review EVAR, so a little more, maybe? But: good review, nonetheless! Confirms what I thought this game would be, so this is a no buy for me...lost interest in CoD after MW 2.

Re: Judging By These Comments, Titanfall Was Definitely Planned for PS4

Reverend_Skeeve

This indeed shows MSs desperation. @staticdash22 summed it up pretty accurately, me thinks. Concerning the exclusivity of Titanfall, I personally don't care. I'm only mildly interested in online mp, being more the single player campaign mode kind of guy. Still, Titanfall 2 might interest me, for it may have a propper campaign, who knows, better graphics and probably better balancing and stuff. Respawn is a studio with very talented people, so of course I'm looking forward to what they'll do on PS4.

Re: Talking Point: How Much Do Format Face-Offs Really Matter?

Reverend_Skeeve

First, thank you Pushsquare for once again being a beacon of reason in the Maelstrom of flamewars that is the rest of teh interwebz.

Fanboy flamewars are as old as gaming itself. I can personally remember it being the same with the C64/Atari 130XE, Amiga 500/Atari ST, Nintendo/Sega with pretty much everyone of their systems over the years and so on...

I went with the 360 during current gen for many reasons and I'd lie if I'd say that knowing that the 3rd party version of various games I was playing was the more smooth version. I appreciate shiny graphics, but it's not the most important thing for me, or I would indeed go PC, I guess (I'll keep a keen eye on the development of the steam machines, though).

Next gen, I'll go with PS4, because MS disgusted me with their policies and 180s and because Sony has way more 1st party devs that'll make the games I'll be more interested in. But again, it won't hurt that I'll know that 3rd party games will look better or at least run more smoothly on the PS4.

Is it enough for me to diss X1 owners? No. It's a gaming system, not a religion. I can imagine to get an X1 in a few years, 'cause I love Halo and I'm looking forward what 343 can do on the new hardware. Also, I love Gears.

But if I was undecided on which system to get, reports of the X1 being the slower system may sway me...as it is, the PS4 is stronger and has the stronger line up for my tastes, so it's a no brainer.

At the point where I own both PS4 and X1, I'll definitely buy most of my 3rd party stuff on PS4...only exception would be X1-exclusive DLC that I'd absolutely have to play.

Re: Weirdness: Call of Duty: Ghosts Resists Alien Invasion in Co-Op Mode

Reverend_Skeeve

@Madd_Hatter401 Lol! Love that movie!

@artemisthemp This, maybe?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2724064/?ref_=nv_sr_1

(still with the frickin' laser beams, 'f course)

This game mode is actually the first thing that interests me in CoD Ghosts. Sounds like it could be a lot of fun, especially with strategic turret placement and all...and I say this despite the fact that I'm normally more interested in the single player campaign of a game and hardly play online mp at all. Might give it a try when it is available for cheap.

Re: Trine 2: Complete Story Points Its Sword at PlayStation 4

Reverend_Skeeve

@get2sammyb One of the devs confirmed on the Playstation blog that the touchpad of the DS4 will indeed be used for drawing, riddles and such.

@MadchesterManc AND one of the devs also confirmed that the 3D output will be in 1080p/30fps per eye...with the devs trying to crank it up to 1080p/60fps after launch.

Sadly, the 3D will not be for me, I can't see it. Would love to see a beautiful game as this in 3D...or anything in 3D, for that matter.

Re: You'll Kill Well Over 10 Hours in Killzone: Shadow Fall's Campaign

Reverend_Skeeve

@RicksReflection First, no offense taken, no worries. And I was imprecise. Of course 10+ hours isn't long in general for a modern game...as you said, you can pump 200+ hours into games like Skyrim and by then haven't even finished the story. So: 10+ is, in my opinion, long/long enough for a modern FPS. Less hours, and I feel cheated for my money, just like you, but 10+ hours (be it 11, 12 or 15) is pretty much my sweet spot nowadays. If the game has a compelling story and beautiful set pieces and music, that's usually long enough for me to feel thoroughly entertained.

On the other hand, I don't have the desire most of the time to invest 200+ hours into a game to see everything. I loved Fallout 3s atmosphere, but the game was just too "big" for me to get into...so I played 5 hours, reached megaton and pretty much quit after that because I couldn't even bother to find all the locations in there (megaton). I tried five times or so to play the game and every time it ended pretty much like that. So a game where I can spend 1-3 hours an evening and be done with after 5 days or so is how I like it today. But I do have a wife and a daughter, so...

But why should it be ridiculous to replay games for higher difficulties? Usually, when I play a game first, I go on normal so I have a light challenge but can mostly enjoy the story. After that, I replay it on hard, because often that's how devs intended their games to be played. And even if I finished the game on hard, there's often the case where I revisit a particularly beloved level or such to just soak in the atmosphere again and enjoy the game for 20mins. Same with movies. I only buy the ones I love and would like to watch again...but I mostly wait till they drop below 8 or 10 € before picking them up.

And by saying this, I don't defend devs ridiculously...as I said, if a game is to short in my opinion, I don't buy it...but 10+ hours isn't that short for a modern FPS. This is plenty of time to tell a compelling story and visit some gorgeous locations during the process.

Then there is the fact that game development of AAA blockbusters has become quite expensive. I'm no dev, but I'd guess that every additional hour of gameplay costs a lot of money, if you want to do it right and not just use generic tunnels or reuse old locations.

So why should a dev spend all that extra money to make a 20+ FPS when statistics show that many gamers don't finish the campaign anyway?

In the end, it comes down to personal taste. If you feel like a campaign is too short, don't buy the game and vote with your wallet. Plus, If you can wait until 3 month or so after the game launched, it's usually 20,- bucks or so cheaper...I hardly buy games at launch but I guess that with the launch of PS4, exceptions will have to be made.

Re: Could Titanfall Still Pick a Fight with the PlayStation 4?

Reverend_Skeeve

@DirectAim The benefit is that the game being exclusive gives MS bragging rights to a game many people are quite interested in. Respawn (the dev) is made of many people who made the original CoD MW1 and MW2, so those guys have some credibility, even if they're a new studio.
So many CoD fans who're still undecided which console to buy first will buy an X1 probably, because it has Titanfall and time-exclusive content for the CoD games.

Of course it would make more sense for Respawn to have the game on more systems...more users equal more potential sales...that's why you can bet that MS parked a huge truck with money on their premises to score that deal.

Re: Rumour: Sony Wants the 'Net to Put Jodie Holmes' Clothes Back On

Reverend_Skeeve

Indeed one has to wonder why they built the complete model of her in the first place when they never intended to show her fully nude. Although I think that this are not her actual breasts, but an imagination of how they look. I can't see the devs go "Uhm, Ellen, could you just step naked into the 3D scanner, just to get everything absolutely right...we won't show 'em ever, promised!"...or Ellen agree to this, even if the devs tried to lure her into a nude full body scan.

Nonetheless, I can see why Ms. Page would want to have the pics taken down...but it was clear that this nude hack would happen...if there's nudity in a game, one of the millions of tech geeks out there on teh webz will find a way to show it.

Re: You'll Kill Well Over 10 Hours in Killzone: Shadow Fall's Campaign

Reverend_Skeeve

@Lelouch I respectfully disagree with you, sir. For me, shooters are still and always have been mostly about a well-made single player campaign. If they also had a mp mode I happened to enjoy, all the better (and I played a lot of MW1 and 2 back in the days). That's mostly down to my lack of skills, though. I don't have the time or desire to play mp every day and often feel like if I don't practice on a regular basis, I'm getting owned like hell.

Will give the mp of Killzone a thorough try, though...especially with some of the fine folks from Pushsquare, as I hope for a respectfull, jerk-free online experience with you guys.

BTT: I feel like 10+ hours is fine. That's quite long for a modern game...and I'll take a 10+ campaign that's tight and gripping and doesn't drag along over a bloated 20h affair any day. And since I usually replay my games for higher difficulty and trophies/achievements, I feel like I'm getting enough bang for my buck.

Re: Could Titanfall Still Pick a Fight with the PlayStation 4?

Reverend_Skeeve

This game doesn't interest me that much. In FPS, I still prefer a decent-made single player campaign over mp, so this whole "no single player campaign but a campaign in mp"-thingy that Titanfall has going does nothing for me. From all I heard, the game plays fantastic, though, so if it comes to PS4 not too far after the X1, this is still a good thing, just not for me.

I agree, though, that if it takes too long, it won't matter much, because by then there's gonna be other, newer and more interesting games, like Destiny and the Division. Maybe there's gonna be a sequel of Titanfall on PS4.
