Re: Metro: Redux Will Make the Apocalypse Magnificent on PS4

Reverend_Skeeve

@OnlyGrant It's a standard FPS mainly, but with a cool setting. Takes place in the year 2033 (who would've though), after earth was devastated by nuclear war. The game itself is set in Moscow's underground train system, where people fled to when the war started.

Since the underground system is vast, there's several cities with different political opinions (communists, neo nazis, others...), some living in peace side by side, some fighting each other, some having forged a fragile truth.

You play a ranger, a member of a special group of people who go to the surface to find supplies, ammo and weapons. You not only fight (some) the people in the underground system, but also have to deal with mutants and such that roam the nuclear wasteland that is the surface.

Since money in itself has no value anymore, you pay all that you need with ammo, either pre-war ammunition that's especially valuable (and does more damage) or post war ammo. So you always have to consider if you'd rather keep the ammo in case you encounter some hard to kill enemies or use them as currency for items.

I didn't play the first game that long, but read the book, which is awesome and very "un-american" in style (the writer is a Russian). The game does a wonderful job of capturing the atmosphere of post-apocalyptic despair and destruction you'd expect after a nuclear war. The underground society displayed is very believable, with everyone just trying to get by, basically living of junk and stuff they just scraped together.

So, if FPS games with a unique twist are your thing and you like post-apocalyptic settings, I'd say this game is definitely worth trying out.

If you don't want to shell out 60 bucks or so for the updated, shinier current-gen version, you can get the games for cheap on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. Played it on the 360 back then and the graphics were already quite good, with very nice lighting effects and such.

Hope I could help.

Edit: Oh, and welcome to the site!

Re: Review: Transistor (PlayStation 4)

Reverend_Skeeve

@ztpayne7 Ayup, ye got me.

@Gemuarto Just feedback, but I'm a daily reader on this site and sorry, but most of your comments are you complaining about stuff in a mostly not very constructive way. It seems that every time I read a comment of yours, it's negative. I know that not all of your comments are negative and/or complaining, but the negative ones are so plenty that by now when I read "Gemuarto" in the comment section, I think to myself: "Oh well, here we go again. Another rant by Gemuarto." and most of the time that's what indeed follows.

So yes, I have problems to see you as a credible source/critic of anything.

I respect your opinion, but maybe you should consider your attitude, because judging by your comments, you come across as a quite negative person.

I got Transistor and I find the backgrounds beautiful. Can't say much about the battle system because I haven't played it that long, but from what I glimpsed so far, I find it interesting and it seems to have a lot of potential for deep tactics.

Re: Review: Transistor (PlayStation 4)

Reverend_Skeeve

@k_andersen In danger of sounding like the others: fantastic review, Dude. I absolutely love that art style and the music from the trailers...this review only confirms a day-1 purchase for me, if only to support the developers.

Tomorrow can't indeed come soon enough.

Re: Round Up: Wolfenstein: The New Order Reviews Reich for the Stars

Reverend_Skeeve

@Sanquine Outside of things that are classified as art by law (such as movies, books, comics), Nazi symbols like the swastika or the SS-runes and the like are forbidden in Germany, for obvious reasons. And since the German laws classify games as toys, it's illegal to sell video games with those symbols here, because toys aren't allowed to have those symbols.

Most games handle this by "just" replacing the swastikas with other symbols, like the WW2 Call of Duty games for example, but keep the setting of the game as such intact (so it's okay to shoot Nazis in games here, as long as they don't wear any of the forbidden symbols). Wolfenstein however goes another route and changes the whole setting, thus you aren't fighting Nazis anymore, but "The Regime".

Since toys with Nazi symbols are forbidden, it's illegal to import them from other countries as well. It's mostly the law, though. Most Germans wouldn't have a problem with uncensored Games like Wolfenstein (other than the Neo-Nazos, of course ), and if games would be re-classified as art (as will hopefully happen someday, because I think we all here agree that games are not toys but an art form), it would be legal to sell uncensored "shoot the Nazi" games here.

Re: Round Up: Wolfenstein: The New Order Reviews Reich for the Stars

Reverend_Skeeve

Wow, didn't expect the scores to be so good. Obviously looking forward to the Pushsquare review.

Would love to play this, because I love the over the top craziness of the game, but the German version sucks. Not only are you no longer fighting Nazis (which isn't a problem in other games like CoD 2 or such), but "the Regime", but because of that the English voice overs are also not on the disk and I hat dubbed versions of anything.

And importing it from another country is illegal in this case.

Re: Killzone Creator: Our Secret PS4 Game Is Really Awesome

Reverend_Skeeve

Whatever they come up with, I want it. Killzone 3 kicked behinds on PS3 and was a technical masterpiece. KZ SFs campaign wasn't as good as 3s, but decent, and had some truly stunning set pieces (although in that regard I also loved KZ3.

If they get the narrative stuff up to scratch, this can only get better. But for they support they show their community and the technical brilliance of their games, I'd buy it anyway if the reviews would be at least half-decent.

Concerning multiplayer, Shadowfall is awesome and blows CoD out of the water easily, imo. Sadly, I suck at it gloriously but still enjoy the game a lot when I play it online, which really says all about how good the mode is.

Can't wait for the co-op expansion.

Although I don't think we'll see a (gameplay) trailer of their new game at E3...a teaser maybe, but more would honestly surprise me.

Re: PS4 Shooter Killzone: Shadow Fall Unloads the Info on its Co-op Component

Reverend_Skeeve

@ShogunRok Cool, thank you!

@Scollurio Count on it, man! This kind of co-op is right up my alley. I love to play co-op with friends (loved the Gears of War games for the co-op campaigns and the horde mode) and the support classes mentioned above are perfect for me, because I'm not really a front line fighter, normally. Can't wait to try this out with you and some other fellow Pushsquarers.

Re: Microsoft: PS4 Is Outperforming Xbox One Because PS3 Didn't Satisfy Consumers

Reverend_Skeeve

I was indeed very satisfied with my 360. Enjoyed it a lot and had many wonderful hours, despite the fact that I went through 4 consoles, luckily all covered by warranty. Never warmed to the PS3 really, mostly due to Sonys disgusting arrogance at the start of the lat gen, the insane price and the DS3, which I personally find terrible. I liked the 360s pad a lot better. So despite the terrible failure rate, I was a happy customer because I liked the games, the controller and the service.

That said, I switched to PS4 mainly because Microsofts terrible policies concerning the X1 and the bs-ing the customers. it was obvious that they totally lost touch with their fanbase. I was so enraged about their original intentions that I even stopped buying games for my 360 because I didn't want to give MS any money at all.

So, after owning a PS1 and PS2, I went to Sony again.

In other words: I was a satisfied, loyal 360 customer that MS drove away with all the stuff they pulled off. And there's plenty of gamers among my friends who also were happy 360 owners, didn't own a PS3 (and didn't want to) but still switched over to Sony for the above reasons.

We all are very happy now with the PS4 because it's clearly the better system and Sony worked loads on their attitude and such.

Also, judging from the comments on this site and others, there's plenty of PS3 owners out there who are very satisfied customers and see no need to upgrade because they still have a huge backlog on their trusty No. 3.

I dare predict this arrogant comment by Mehdi won't help Microsoft much, because it disregards former Xbox customers like me and my friends.

Re: Ever Wondered What Duke Nukem Would Look Like as a Girl?

Reverend_Skeeve

As @3rdEyeMind said, I agree it's a parody of the 2003 Duke teaser...and thus I hope that the awful animation was intentionally cringeworthy.

I love me some good, old isometric 3D twin stick action. Even better if there's some RPG elements in the mix, but the screens on the official website didn't do much for me. Looks underwhelming. I will keep an eye on this because I love the genre in general, but until I read some raving reviews that sway my mind, my money is on Helldivers, which looks much better and seems to scratch the isometric action-RPG-itch as well.

Re: Could PS4 Exclusive Killzone: Shadow Fall Be Getting a New Multiplayer Mode?

Reverend_Skeeve

Could the game get a new mp-mode? Well, it better will get one...namely the aforementioned co-op mode, which was promised by GG and one of the reasons I bought the season pass.

Not sure if co-op will come soon, but I can't wait for some co-op horde goodness in the awesomeness that is KZs multiplayer. Really appreciate GGs support and constant improvements to the game. And giving the map packs out for free so the community won't be divided is how it should be done. I'm very excited to see what those guys come up with next!

Post apocalyptic RPG, anyone? *heavy breathing

Re: Reaction: Xbox One's PS4 Impersonation Improves with Kinect Reversal

Reverend_Skeeve

@Shaolin I think this article in particular has every right to be here, on a PlayStation site. Sure, it concerns the Xbox, but since it will make the X1 more competitive and attractive to a lot of people out there, it will also influence Sonys strategy and the PS4 sales and such. Also, it doesn't hurt to look a little further, sometimes.

I do agree with you though, that there's been a fair share of borderline-gloating articles of the "Oh, lookz! PS4 haz moar pixelz again!"-kind, and those eventually hurt the PS community more than they help

BTT: Like many above, I also feel like this could hurt MS more in the end than help. As has been said, it makes 'em seem to be without a distinct vision for their system and now there's really nothing much setting the X1 apart from the PS4, other than weaker hardware and a bunch of exclusive games.

Even before this latest 180, I could see me buy an X1 eventually if there's enough exclusives out and the price low enough to justify the purchase and since I have close to zero interest in Kinect, the possibility to buy an X1 without it is hugely appreciated.

I couldn't care less about the media features, but tearing that paywall down and enable consumers to use the apps without having to shell out for Xbox Live Gold was a long overdue move. Finally, then.

Hope there's a nice special edition X1 available next year with a nice game bundled, then I might get one.

Re: Does Dimming the PS4 Controller's Light Bar Increase Its Battery Life?

Reverend_Skeeve

@BarrettJChris If nobody would've complained, we'd have always-online, DRM-infested consoles now. MS only caved in because of user backlash...and Sony rode the wave of the crapstorm MS' original plans evoked. Sony also has a patent for connecting disk-based games to a user profile and I'm not sure they would not have gone the same way as MS if the backlash hasn't been so severe.

I agree that the whining tone and the "I WANTS IT NAOWE!1" tone can get on ones nerves, but in general, user feedback is a good thing, because it keeps companies sharp and on their edge.

Besides, the light bar is an issue for me, as it is clearly visible on the screen of my HDTV when I play in the dark. Others may not have the problem, but there's roughly a gazillion different TVs out there, with different screens and reflectiveness, so the dimming option is appreciated, and I'll take over an hour more of battery life any time.

And about the no-mp3-thingy? Again, the tone may be immature, but I too can not understand why a feature that was implemented in the PS3 isn't available on PS4, same goes for video files. When I had a PS3 around, the ability to copy music and videos onto the PS3s HDD and watch the videos on the big screen was highly appreciated and used by me.

Oh...and complaining about improper tone an immaturity on the web and then personally insulting somebody and with him dead? Yeah, right...

Luckily, people with your attitude and vulgarity are a minority in the Pushsquare community. Maybe go somewhere else, plz?

BTT: I have my DS4 on the lowest setting. Glare is better, but still visible, but I'm not too bothered.

Re: Feature: Three Things You Must Know About PS4's Evolved FPS Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

Reverend_Skeeve

@get2sammyb Thanks, man. I know that you know that CoD is coming to pretty much every system out there, and yes, @KALofKRYPTON it may seem pedantic, but in my opinion it's just more professional from a journalistic point of view to have the statements in a more general fashion.

It was just meant as a little, good-natured feedback and I'm glad you take it as that. In general, Pushsquare is one of the most professional websites on teh webz with very fair and differentiated reviews and articles, so this is why this whole business I mentioned above is all the more unfitting, as it's kind of colliding with the high quality I'm used from Pushsquares other articles and content.

Anyway, thanks for listening and keep up the good work!

@Trfe Thank you, kind sir!

Re: Feature: Three Things You Must Know About PS4's Evolved FPS Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

Reverend_Skeeve

I am excited. And I haven't been interested in a CoD since I finished MW2. This, as I wrote in another comment, looks interesting, mostly because I love Kevin Spacey and I love Crysis.

@get2sammyb I know you're going to say "We're a PlayStation-centric site!" again, but honestly: "PS4's Evolved FPS Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" and "It’s being made for the PlayStation 4 first and foremost"?

It is not "PS4s FPS", but, if any, it's PS4, Xbox One and PC and also PS3/Xbox 360. Thus it's not made foremost for PS4, but for PC and next gen systems.

I know this may seem nit-picky, but if even the Official Xbox magazine manages to mention if a game also comes to PlayStation, I think so can PushSquare. Not mentioning other systems and use words to imply that it's PlayStation foremost/only smells of either stubbornness and/or bad journalism, in my opinion.

You know I love the site, but with this, Pushsquare is somehow diminishing itself, I think.

Just my two cents, though...

Re: PS4's Next Call of Duty Game Will Be Disclosed on Sunday

Reverend_Skeeve

@Dodoo Exactly! MW1 blew my mind back then and I was super excited for MW2, loved it and played the hell out of it, but after that, my excitement for CoD just went "meh", somehow. I always felt that after MW2, a near future but properly futuristic CoD would be the next logical step to advance the series. MW3 or the Black Ops games didn't klick with me and I'm dead tired of WW2 games, so this new one is finally right up my alley again!

Re: PS4's Next Call of Duty Game Will Be Disclosed on Sunday

Reverend_Skeeve

This trailer looks utterly fantastic (the ingame one, of course). I really dig the near future Crysis-vibe. And: Kevin "the man" Spacey. For some reason, the Crysis games have a special place in my heart. Finished part 1 3 times and part 2 around 5 and Advanced Warfare seem to cross Crysis with a Modern Warfare 1 and 2 feel.

First time in years I'm really interested again in a Call of Duty game.

Re: Rumour: BioWare Shepards the Mass Effect Trilogy onto PS4

Reverend_Skeeve

I would be over this in a flash. I loved part 1 and 2 but for...reasons I never got around playing the third, so this would be perfect. The Mass Effect universe is one of the best written and diverse of any fiction I came across, so I'd love them to be on the PS4, meaning hopefully less loading times, faster elevators (groan) and overall better performance. As @ShogunRok said, though, the whole DLC for all the games should be included to really give you the whole package and story bits and pieces.

@FullbringIchigo Bioware stated that they're done with the Shepard story arc, so I'd guess they'll start something new in ME 4, so...

But of course the decisions in the first 3 games could still influence part 4. We'll see.

Re: Rumour: Just Cause 3 May Crash a Jumbo Jet into PS4 Pretty Soon

Reverend_Skeeve

Just Cause 3 will be a definite day 1 purchase for me, in the most special special edition available...as will be Mad Max. Just Cause 2 was one of my absolute favorite games of last gen. I sank 140 hours or so into the game and didn't even finish the campaign...I just had so much fun messing around on the island and soak in the gorgeous graphics.

So I can't wait for anything open world Avalanche will release. Even if JC3 is just more of the same, that would be cool with me.

Re: Bungie's PS4 Shooter Destiny Scores a Nifty New Website

Reverend_Skeeve

@ThreadShadow As far as I know, Bungie has already confirmed that you can play the entire campaign and story of Destiny in single player, without any online-buddies or strangers messing with your game. They recommend to make use of the multi player features, but you can all ignore them.

And about not being able to play Destiny anymore when the servers will go down eventually: 1st, Bungie seems to be planning to support Destiny for a long time, so we should be good for some years...and 2nd, there's always the possibility to release a patch before the servers are shut off so the game won't require them to run.

I can see where you come from, though...I am not a friend of "always online" and don't play online regularly. I do enjoy the occasional match of Killzone or so, but prefer single player over multi any time of the day. So the ability to enjoy Destiny alone was good for me, although I get the feeling that I might actually want to play some decent co-op with some friends when Destiny launches.

Re: Rumour: The Last of Us PS4 Takes Aim on 20th June

Reverend_Skeeve

@MadchesterManc Naughty Dog did indeed confirm that they started development on the PS4 version right after they finished the PS3 version of the game...and for why they didn't release the game on the PS4 in the first place? I don't know, but the install base of 80+ million PS3s, thus meaning 80+ million potential buyers might have had something to do with this decision.

Re: Store Update: 15th April 2014 (North America)

Reverend_Skeeve

@kensredemption Cross play between PlayStation and another console? Sure, they'll add this as soon as Halo 5 launches on PS4 next month.

Sorry, didn't want to sound rude, but I think we'll never see cross-play between different consoles...console/PC is the only thing in this regard we'll get in this regard, at least in the near future.

PS4 allows cross play with PCs in some games, though.

Re: Review: inFAMOUS: Second Son (PlayStation 4)

Reverend_Skeeve

Going to go pick this one up NOW! Local store is breaking the street date.

I didn't read your review yet to not spoil anything! Feels awesome that after the first trailer during the PS4s reveal 13 month ago, the day where we can finally play the game is here.

Re: The Knights Suit Up in New The Order: 1886 Trailer

Reverend_Skeeve

Holy moly, this looks insanely good. I love the setting and design and 3rd person shooters, so even if the gameplay is nothing more than Uncharted or Gears of War, I'm sure I'll love this game. Please come in 2014?

Definitely the best graphics in any game I've ever seen, regardless of the platform.

Re: Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition Lurching onto PS4

Reverend_Skeeve

@CodeSe7en Games on PS3 run mostly in a resolution of 720p, which means the resolution (number of pixels) of the picture. "720p" means a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels. Modern HDTVs have a resolution of "1080p", which means 1920 by 1080 pixels (1920 horizontally, 1080 in vertical). Because of this, games running in 720p have to be enlarged ("upscaled") to prevent a black bar around the picture, because a 720p picture doesn't have enough pixels to "fill out" a 1080p TV screen.

So to enlarge a 720p picture to 1080p, some pixels not originally there in the picture have to be "created"/"invented". So an upscaled 720p picture on a 1080p screen isn't as sharp as a genuine 1080p picture that has all the pixels for a full screen 1080p picture. Meaning: crisper, sharper visuals when the console generates the picture in genuine 1080p in contrast to an upscaled 720p picture.

60fps means "frames per second". Games on video game consoles run in either 30 or 60 fps...30fps are already enough for the human eye to generate a fluid motion (movies in cinemas used to run in 24fps before digital tech took over there), but for fast games like racing games or fast ego shooters, devs try to go for 60fps because it's more fluid than 30, obviously.

So, all the numbers above mean that I hope that Dead Nation, which runs in 720p and 30fps on PS3 will be improved on PS4, running smoother and crisper in true, non-upscaled 1080p at 60fps...which it most definitely will.

Sorry for the long post.

Re: Yes, RedLynx's Trials Fusion Drops onto PS4 on 16th April

Reverend_Skeeve

@get2sammyb 'tis okay, man...cry a little if you feel like it...we're here for ya. *passes over some tissues

Seriously, though: looking forward to this...played an older Trials game a few days ago at a friends place and had a ton of fun! Even my wife played and enjoyed, which really says everything...three years I have tried and this was the first time she actually picked up a controller.

Thus: insta-buy fo' sure.

Re: God of War Studio Sony Santa Monica Slashed by the Blades of Corporate Chaos

Reverend_Skeeve

@Gamer83 You do post lotsa stuff that isn't negative, most of that even interesting and insightful, but lately, you have been coming over as overly negative, in my humble opinion. I agree that the delays that happened are frustrating (I want Driveclub NOEW, too!) and as I said above, I also find this lay offs at SSM slighty troublesome, but as Sammy said, we just don't know what happened there.

At every opportunity lately you complain about the lack of AAA games and AAA-announcements, and indeed I start to wonder why you bought the PS4 at launch in the first place? This surely wasn't your first console launch, so you, as the informed gamer you obviously are, should've/could've seen this drought coming.

I agree with you, that the lack of announcements is frustrating, and I also think it's hurting Sony to play their cards so close to the chest, especially with Titanfall right around the corner and the X1s price drop in the UK.

But you keep foaming at the mouth about it for weeks now, as every constant reader here can attest to, and if someone points it out to you, you go "well, the post wasn't for you, so bloody ignore it if you don't like it".

I got to know Pushsquare as a community where respectful and decent discussion happens, so this feels...off.

Sure, I could just skip what you post, but as I said, often it's fun/insightful to read...I just think that your continuing complaints are getting a little tiresome for other regulars.

And no, I'm not defending Sony...I just wish you'd be able to chill out a little bit and maybe manage to make your point without swearing, even if you X-out the bad words, that's all.

Just my 2 cents, though...peace, everyone!

Re: Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition Lurching onto PS4

Reverend_Skeeve

Awesome! I love twin stick shooters and all stuff zombie, so I'm sure I'd love this game. Just checked out some videos of the PS3 version and this game looks like it's right up my alley.

Even if they "just" bump up lighting and resolution and make it run at 60fps, this would be a day one purchase...but included in the IGC? Yes, please!
