Re: Talking Point: Share Your European PS4 Launch Stories Here

Reverend_Skeeve

IT IS HERE! *cough Sorry for shouting.

Now preparing some finger food for the Kindergarten-christmas-party of the li'll one...as soon as that's done, I'll set up the PS4, install all updates, download all the free games like Resogun and such, install Killzone and then, around 19:00 a friend will drop by and we shall find out together if greatness truly arrived!

Happy launch, fellow pushsquarers!

Re: Sony to Reduce Digital PS4 Prices Prior to EU Launch

Reverend_Skeeve

Indeed what all of you already said.

Higher digital prices are outright stupid, especially if publishers want to push the digital future. Hopefully, with prices like this the whole thing will take longer to take of. I like my game cases and disks and my collectors stuff, but I also bought digital when there was a good offer. Bagged Borderlands 2 2 month after launch for 20,- € and found it quite convenient to buy and play a game in the middle of the night. And I surely will buy some digital titles on PS4 as well...there's often excellent deals on PSN, especially with Plus...but with those prices? No.

Re: Is DriveClub Racing Away with the PS4 Visuals Crown?

Reverend_Skeeve

@LXDX Hum, hard decision. I guess it depends on how much you want the PS4. The PS4/Vita bundle sounds good, but I couldn't afford it, no matter the price. I was struggeling to afford the PS4 and Killzone as it is. Also, I just don't want to wait any longer, or I would've bought the PS4+Controller+Cam+Killzone bundle in a heartbeat, but that one isn't available at launch in Germany.

inFamous is one of my most anticipated games, so if I had the strength to wait, I'd probably get that one.

@nathanuc1988 Strange, right? I had to install extenders to see anything else but my shoulders.

Re: Is DriveClub Racing Away with the PS4 Visuals Crown?

Reverend_Skeeve

@LDXD Yes. There will be a "Special PS+ Version" of the game when Driveclub launches. It has fewer tracks and cars than the full retail version, but all game modes and options are included. And as with every PS+ game, you can play it for as long as you want as long as you have a PS+ membership.

Also, you can buy the missing cars and tracks for a discounted price if you want the full game and not just the downgraded version.

BTT: The game looks better every time, indeed! Can't wait!

Re: Are You in Europe? Don't Worry, PS4 Is Right Around the Corner

Reverend_Skeeve

@Farmboy74 Ah, I see...good choice of games...AC4 would be my 2nd launch game, could I afford one...so it's just Killzone.

Have a li'll one, too...so gaming time will have to be planned carefully. Was originally planning to burn away Friday night while the wife looks out for our daughter, but now it seems that I can start Thursday, because I have a the weekend plus Friday off.

Can't wait to hook up with you guys to play some online mp...

Re: Are You in Europe? Don't Worry, PS4 Is Right Around the Corner

Just wanted to give a heads up to any German Pushsquare-folks that might lurk around here...specifically any who live in or close to Berlin (or are crazy enough to drive a long distance):

Sony has a huge Sony Store at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin and will be hosting a PS4 pre-launch event on Thursday, Nov. 28th, starting 17:00 local time.

After the usual yay-PR-stuff and some forgettable musical acts, they will start to sell a huge contingent of PS4 consoles to the attendees, starting 19:00. According to a statement on the German Playstation Blog, they have a hefty amount in the store, so every interested shopper should be able to snatch one.

Here's the full details:

http://blog.de.playstation.com/2013/11/20/4theplayers-night-erlebt-den-verkaufsstart-der-playstation-4-in-berlin/

Now...guess where I will be on Thursday afternoon?

edit: Corrected some typos. The excitement got me...

Re: PS4's UK Digital Prices Will Stretch Your Wallet Pretty Wide

Reverend_Skeeve

This is pretty outrageous/insane...wonder how it will look on the German PS4 online store. It absolutely makes no sense why prices for digital downloads should be so much higher than the retail versions, especially, as pointed out, when there's no costs for the disk, packaging or shipping the game to retailers. And it's pretty stupid, too...surely not the best way to tempt consumers into an all-digital future...that said, especially with PS+, there's some often excellent deals and price cuts on PSN for the PS3 when the games are a little older, so I imagine we will see something similar with the PS4 sometimes down the line...getting really excellent games for 5,- € or so digitally is a steal, so I guess it depends on how long you're willing to wait until you buy the digital version of a game.

Guess it's the old "vote with your wallet" thingy again...

Re: Talking Point: Is the PS4's Controller Pushing Your Buttons?

Reverend_Skeeve

I only got a short hands on with the DS4 at a demo station, but pretty much everything I didn't like about the DS3 is gone...the form fits better into my hands, the sticks feel more precise and "tighter", the triggers (L2/R2) are actually that and not something my fingers keep slipping off. It just felt right and pretty much perfect from the first second, so: excellent job, Sony.

And before somebody might imply that I am an Xbox fanboy for not liking the DS3, I own a PS1 and PS2 and play videogames for 30 years, but the 360s pad was the best one I ever used (for my personal tastes)...but the DS4 might just take that crown now.

Re: Review: Rocksmith 2014 Edition (PlayStation 3)

Reverend_Skeeve

Good review. And I find the idea and concept behind this game absolutely wonderful. Was a big sucker for Guitar Hero and Rockband back then, but started to learn playing a real guitar, so a game like this is right up my alley.

I will skip this one, though, and hope for a PS4 edition where they hopefully work out some more of the kinks...holding thumbs that there will be a version coming for PS4 in 2014...until then, I'll make do with online tutorials.

Re: Talking Point: Is the PS4's Limited Launch Lineup a Problem?

Reverend_Skeeve

Well written article, Sammy. I'm fine with the launch lineup. I indeed have only so much money to spend and the PS4 plus Killzone stretched my budget more than I'd have liked. With its 10h+ campaign, multiplayer and additional playthroughs, I should be good, because thanks to PS+ and the f2p games, I should be fine until next year when Driveclub and inFamous launch.

If I can scrape together some more gaming money, I might go for AC4 and maybe NFS, but it's Watch_Dogs, DC and inFamous I'm really looking forward to.

So: better to stretch the releases and avoid a dry period, imo...but I also can understand how some could be frustrated that there's not more...but then, there's always those...normally, early adopters should know by now that the situation around and after launch is often like this...and in the case of the PS4, I'm optimistic that Sony will be able to provide quality AAA titles at a regular frequency.

Re: You May Be Sharing the Animus in Future Assassin's Creed Titles

Reverend_Skeeve

This fusion of single- and multiplayer is not good news for me, personally. I prefer my single player games to be exactly that: single. When I dive into a campaign, I want to soak in story, atmosphere cut scenes and such...and have less than zero desire that some stranger intrudes my game, messing with my experience. I can see why this merging could be appealing for people, but it's not for me...so let's hope this stays entirely optional as seems to be the case with Watch_Dogs or Destiny, as it would be a total deal breaker for me if it wasn't.

Re: Rumour: Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Washes Up on PS4

Reverend_Skeeve

@Banedracul I loved Rage...in no small part to the fantastic graphics...it was very clear that this was not done with the Unreal engine (which often gives games a brownish/muddy look, I think)...and I loved the art design and post-apocalyptic setting. The story didn't realize its full potential, as it's often the case with id games, but I enjoyed the game a lot...i pumped many hours into the card trading mini game included alone. Would definitely buy it again on PS4 for shinier graphics and will keep an eye out for part two.

I also prefer console gaming by far for the last 10 years or so...playing games from the comfort of your couch on the big screen without having to worry about drivers, configuration or the latest hardware is sweet.

Re: Rumour: Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Washes Up on PS4

Reverend_Skeeve

Sweet! This would be awesome! Best thing: I wouldn't even have to double dip, because I never played this game. Jan. 14th would be too close to Second Son, but I'll definitely buy a next gen version of Tomb Raider sometimes...loved the first two parts with a passion.

@Banedracul Right! Can't wait what id will be able to do on PS4 with the id5 engine...Rage looked amazing on 360 and PS3, considering the age of the hardware.

Re: Talking Point: Share Your North American PS4 Launch Stories

Reverend_Skeeve

@Gamer83 Glad it worked out for you in the end! I can only imagine the pain when one has a shiny, new PS4 standing there and the PSN login doesn't work.

Had the opportunity to get hands on with a PS4 demostation at a local retailer about 1h ago and must say I absolutely love the DS4! May be the best pad I used yet. Feels so high quality and the sticks and triggers are awesome! Sony definitely did a lot right!

Looking forward to your more detailed impressions...but good to hear that you like the games so far.

Cheers!

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your First Impressions of the PS4?

Reverend_Skeeve

Just had the opportunity to check out Knack on a Demostation at a retailer close by. I love the DS4! It's a huge improvement over the DS3 and adresses pretty much all issues I have with the DS3, especially the tighter, smaller sticks that are further away from each other and finally it has some propper L2/R2 triggers...the L2/R2 buttons on the DS3 are a pain in my opinion. So, controller-wise, all worries that I had are gone. Knack looks nice, too, with sharp textures, nice anti-aliasing and some decent transparency effects...made me want to play more...will definitely play this when it comes on PS+

Nov. 29th can't come soon enough! So excited!

Re: Talking Point: How Have the First Reviews Affected Your Anticipation for PS4?

Reverend_Skeeve

@Scollurio Yeah, absolutely! I was mildly interested in the game even before Sammys propaganda, but by now I can't wait to get personal hands on-time with the game. And indeed he'd owe some coop by now, making us all believers. That said, I'm looking forward to some nice online mp with a lot of games with some folks from Pushsquare...should ensure that I won't have to play with jerks, like it was so often the case on my 360.

Re: Round Up: Resogun Shoots to the Top of the PS4 Reviews Pile

Reverend_Skeeve

@ajaychitown Exactly...don't want to troll MS, because I hope they're successful (competition is always good), but it does seem the devs for the X1 have a much harder time to get the games up and running...many games being upscaled and having frame rate issues (Dead Rising 3 dropping down to 10-15 frames). It might get ironed out eventually once the software and drivers improve, but it does look bad just now, whereas the PS4 seems easy to work with, with much less problems.
Some of the launch games already look stunning, inFamous is right around the corner and in about 10-12 month I'm sure we'll see even better looking games.
