Goat Simulator is one of those games were you jump on for an hour of stupid, random, weird fun. I tried Uncharted 1,2 and 3 a few years ago and I just couldn't get into it. There was something about the controls that felt off, and I couldn't stand the non stop talking of the main characters. I did however play and enjoy Lost Legacy, but for some reason can't enjoy the rest of the series.
"Cool, i'll have to try it".
"You can't".
"Why not?"
"Because it's no longer available".
"Why, what happened?"
"It was just a concept demo and was removed from the store before being released".
"So it wasn't an actual game, just a demo?"
"Um, yeah."
"OK, might as well put the Zelda HD Tech Demo from E3 2011 on the list as well. It was only a demo, and not a game, and not even on the PlayStation. Who cares right?"
I finally picked this up a few weeks ago. The first few hours were ok but I found the story boring and relied on the player to collect documents and stop and read them. Combat is good but very repetitive, and the visuals ain't that great either, even when film grain is turned off (default on). Also frame rate issues still exist. Definitely not my GOTY.
The game was unplayable for me. Server disconnections every 15 minutes, losing progress, enemy bases being reset after clearing. Once Ubisoft remove the "always online" part i'll play it again.
@leucocyte I was doing the same thing, holding L2, but then realised that it's only to initially grab then you can let go. Even jumping across while climbing there's no need to press it again.
I agree with the animations, both Cal and enemies. They're not as smooth as they could be. It feels more arcadey than realistic, but you get used to it.
@leucocyte Not sure why you're holding L2 for so long, you press it once to grab onto a wall, then you can let go and climb. Also meditating doesn't respawn enemies, only resting does. So you can meditate, use your skill points, then leave and you'll be fine. Only if you want to recharge your health, etc and rest, that's when enemies reset.
I'm having a blast. It's very similar to the Tom Raider games more than Unhcharted. It has that arcadey control feel. Plenty of exploration, traversal, combat, collecting, customization. I'd give it a 9.
Death Stranding was always going to be a "love or hate" game for me. I took a chance and bought it on release and i have no regrets. I find the game peaceful, relaxing, stressful, puzzling, beautiful and fulfilling all at once. Not every game has to have non-stop action, shooting and looting, or superhuman heroes.
I also liken the game to Breath of the Wild. It's an adventure with little hand holding. It makes you go out on your own and discover ways to complete objectives, or just to stay alive. Yes the world of DS is barren, but it sets the atmosphere and tone of the game. It has some of the most beautiful landscapes and settings i've ever played. BOTW is also considered barren with enemy camps scattered here and there, but while you're running across a grassy open field, or climbing a mountain to see what's on the other side, it puts the player in the moment of adventure, something that lots of other games don't achieve. Same with RDR2. Uncharted 4 is a pretty game, but to me it's just a scripted movie set piece with little freedom IMO.
To me Death Stranding sets the bar for next-gen games: to be new, different and game changing. It seems the majority of gamers these days are stuck in a COD/Fortnite/Destiny loophole, of online arcade shooters, and when something original and fresh shows up which doesn't hold their hands they quickly knock it down and call it boring garbage. I think Kojima was right when he said that DS flies higher than a FPS.
When they add offline mode I'll replay it. I lost so much progress due to crappy Ubisoft servers, it was literally unplayable. Every 15 mins I was getting booted back to the main menu and losing progress, restarting missions, and losing weapons.
Funny, i exchanged this game yesterday, because it's no fun being disconnected from the Ubis#!t servers every 15 minutes. Especially when in the middle of clearing an enemy base and having to start it again once connected. Seriously, stop forcing multiplayer on everyone, an offline mode is easy, and i'd still be playing the game if that was the case. As others have said, there's a good/fun game underneath all the crap they ram down your throats.
Take a page out of other IP's books, and also Nintendo's book, and release the game when it is FINISHED! I'm tired of 50GB day one patches because they rush it out the door. I''ll pick the game up again when it has an offline mode, and on sale. BTW i exchanged it for COD:MW and i've only played the first 3 missions of the campaign and i'm already enjoying it more than GR:Breakpoint.
I wasn't expecting it to be that funny that i was choking on my toast. That's hilarious. I'm almost willing to throw down cash for this game if it gives me these laughs every few minutes.
Well the Beta had every option but to invert the camera while flying drones/helicopters! You could invert the pitch controls, but not the camera in flight. Frustrating.
Didn't someone 3D print a saber to connect the move controllers together, to form something similar to Maul's lightsaber a few months ago? What's next? News story that someone else has sticky taped their controllers together?
Perhaps update the review after the day one patch has been issued. Sounds like a fun game but seems unfair that you review an "unfinished" game, since the patch hasn't released yet. It would be like reviewing a movie before it's official release, where some CGI scenes haven't been completed.
I know it's the norm these days to push a game out the door quickly, but to review a different final build to the public release can be a bit unfair sometimes. Especially when a day one patch is a given. I do understand that you guys and girls have to review games before initial release, but maybe update the reviews with day one patch results after.
Gotta agree, there's so much to do now. Its a totally different game. I've started 2 new games since the update: one for normal "2D" mode, the other for VR.
@michaelf thanks mate. After reading your comment last night I tried it and it worked! Only tested about 1 minute of gameplay before going to bed. Will be spending the weekend in NMS VR.
My update was corrupted twice, finally installed itself. Game goes to black screen when VR headset is on, no sound either, crashes when closing application. Works fine in normal/non-VR mode. Guess I'm waiting for a patch.
I also played in the alpha. Really enjoyed it, seems like the full game will have plenty to do. If you enjoyed GW2 you'll enjoy this one. Will def buy day one.
I'm gonna have to pick this up again. I played it at launch, enjoyed it, but found it too big and long and got distracted by other games. Now that I have about 2 months before Borderlands 3 releases, I'll probably pick up AC Odyssey again and finish it. Really enjoy the combat and open world of the newer games compared to the earlier ones.
My prediction: The game will be very, very linear, with more cut-scenes then actual gameplay. It will have zero customization and multiple quick-time events. It will be squarely aimed at kids.
Of course God of War is #1. It wouldn't surprise me if GoW was also best racing, multiplayer and indie game. OK we get it, GoW is your favourite game, but half the games on this list crap all over GoW's graphics. Detroit, RDR2 and RE2 easily beat it.
Nier Automata is my number one. It's just so different. Its a mix of genres all in one game, and the ending hits you hard. (The true ending, not the first ending )
I could never get into the Witcher 3. Yes it looks good, but I find the story drags on and the combat ain't as fluid as other games. I prefer Horizon Zero Dawn personally.
I reckon this will be a very linear, but cinematic game. As others have said, it probably wont' be a Spiderman or other superhero style game, with upgrades and freedom. I bet this will be a cut-scene heavy title with small spots of combat and free movement. One for the kids, not the fans.
Graphics are one thing, but if the gameplay is not there, the game is useless. I'm more interested in Cyberpunk's setting and gameplay than anything else. Witcher 3 didn't grab me because I don't enjoy medieval-ish settings. Yes it looked good (back then) but its got nothing on Zelda BOTW. That game proves gameplay over graphics. Hopefully Cyberpunk will play well and keep me interested, and not just look pretty. Ghost of Tsushima also looks good because of its setting. It could have average visuals compared to other big games, but if the gameplay is there....it could be something special.
Combat was great, but the rest of the world activities were boring. Once you finish the story there's not much else to do besides clean up the side missions, which become a chore very quickly. I don't see how adding a new expansion pack and group of enemies can make this more interesting. Sorry Bethesda, i've given up on RAGE 2, and i'm not coming back.
Meh. 20 seconds of soft electronic music does nothing for me. I enjoyed Wildlands but this looks like a new map and enemy type upgrade to me. Nothing special.
This game was a disappointment for me. The only thing to blow up were enemy bases, while the rest of the settlements only had driving/wingsuit challenges. A big difference to the chaotic fun that was JC3. Too much focus on the one or two tornadoes on the map.
I'm only about 90 mins in but so far so good. Very Mad Max-esque with plenty to upgrade and collect. Still has that Rage 1 vibe, with collecting random junk to sell/upgrade. If you enjoy killing, collecting, upgrading, and killing, you'll have fun.
GOW had good graphics, but not the best. Horizon, RDR2, UC4, Detroit, all had better visuals IMO. Can't wait for the "GOW is the best game/visuals/audio/multiplayer/racing game" to end. We get it, you're God of War fanboys, but admit defeat when it comes to it
As much as I love the Borderlands series, I feel that this is a rushed and sloppy release. It could have been handled better, unless Gearbox is planning something else.

Wish they'd fix multiplayer challenges. Some are broken and prevent you from unlocking new weapons, xp, etc.
