Re: Subnautica Enjoys Drastic File Size Reduction on PS5

The other day I remembered that I am in possession of a 500GB external USB hard drive, which I purchased maybe 8 years ago to back up a laptop I no longer have. I hooked it up to my PS5 and shifted all my PS4 games over to it. I am very pleased to see that, while they don't load as quickly as they did from the SSD, they still load quickly and play just fine. All of this to say, I'm glad I didn't try to purchase some state of the art external thinking that only the latest technology would make load times tolerable.

Re: Uncharted 4: A Thief's End Has Been Played By Over 37 Million People

I gotta say, as a grown-ass man, I'm finding it harder and harder to play games that incorporate mature themes like honesty in adult relationships, ageing, etc., then ask you to blithely murder hundreds of people in the name of adventure and treasure. The dissonance just shoves me right out of the game. Tomb Raider has the same problem, but Uncharted 4 seems the most egregious example in my own recent playing history because of how it aims for these tender or emotionally complex moments while refusing to even acknowledge the international murder spree. That being said, I did quit about halfway through, so maybe it somehow comes up later? I doubt it. It's a shame, I thought the storytelling, the traversal, the puzzle-solving, the graphics were all top-notch. But these days I'll take a game like Doom, which doesn't pretend to be something it isn't, over the likes of "sophisticated" games like Uncharted 4, as slick and alluring as they are.

@deathaxe Didn't know that about regional availability, thanks for the enlightenment. Still seems as though it's a needlessly murky double offering from Sony and something that can be streamlined and easier to understand for their customers. That being said, looks like the PS5 version of Wreckfest is nicely upgraded, so I'll be enjoying that one no doubt. Whereas I took a hard pass on all last month's offerings.

@Pro_V_Gone Curious what you found tedious about it? Apart from withholding basic gameplay mechanics like double jump until progression milestones are reached, a practice that seriously needs to go extinct. I found the game refreshingly linear, the world full of incredible detail and scale, and the setpieces thrilling. Though I did have to switch to "story" mode to get past some of the ludicrously difficult bosses. Overall, the reason why it gets a re-purchase and replay from me (something I rarely do), is I find myself just wanting to spend more time in its handcrafted world.

Re: Feel the Vibes of Earthblade, the Next Game from the Makers of Celeste

It's weird. I often play games on easy mode because I get frustrated quickly, yet I want to complete games I've purchased, I want to experience their full narrative arc. But Celeste I was able to complete without any assists. I died thousands of times (love that it keeps track, lol), but I still made it through. The game is fine tuned to perfection like no other, and it somehow got around my frustration wall and made me stick with it to the end. Unforgettable. Very excited for Earthblade.

Re: Here's When Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition Will Be Free

For me, no experience in gaming rivals battling machines in Horizon Zero Dawn for immersion, adrenaline and balletic beauty. I only came to this game recently when I purchased my very first Playstation with the PS5 (after trying for months!). Zelda: BotW is the gold standard for open world games for me and while Horizon is a very different experience, it's the only title that comes close in terms of beauty and immersion. What an absolute stunner of a game on pretty much every level.

Re: Sony Game MLB The Show 21 Will Be Free with Game Pass on Xbox, Full-Price on PS5, PS4

So you can buy it or rent it, who cares? If you keep your gaming calculus simple, news like this shouldn't faze you. I will pay good money for a good game. The value of a good game always vastly exceeds the money I spend on it, if I break it down to dollars per hour enjoyed. I was a GPU subscriber for a year and there wasn't a single game on it that I really stuck with. The glut of titles made it too easy to pick them up and put them down. The psychology of paying full or discounted price for a game and owning it bonds me to it in a way totally absent from Game Pass. I like that level of commitment. It forces me to choose wisely and play deeply.

Re: PS Store Spring Sale Goes Live with 500 PS5, PS4 Deals

I made the leap from Xbox Series S to PS5 last month (I'd been trying to get one since launch), and immediately subscribed to PS Now and Plus. Since this is the first Playstation I've ever owned, you can imagine the backlog I immediately acquired with the PS Plus Collection as well as the purchase of Spider-Man and Miles Morales. So while I'm currently enthralled by Uncharted 4, Horizon Zero Dawn, Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy, etc., I did pick up Ghost of Tsushima and Witcher III in this sale and can't wait to jump into the former. Since I've already played through a hefty portion of Witcher III on Xbox I can wait for the next-gen upgrade to launch a new playthrough. I haven't had this much gaming fun in years!
