I had been a loyal PlayStation gamer, owning all the consoles from PSX -> PS4, including both handhelds.
When the new consoles were announced in 2020 I decided I'd try something new and bought three years of Game Pass (£120 on a deal) and a Series S.
If I'm honest I've been wildly underwhelmed. I played a bit of Destiny, thoroughly enjoyed Forza Horizon 4, and tried hard to get excited for Horizon 5. But ultimately came away feeling a bit 'meh'.
So with talk of a slim PS5 and my Gamepass sub due to expire in a few months, I planned to come back to the Playstation fold. But now I'm not so sure.
The whole aura around PlayStation at the moment feels very reminiscent of the early PS3 era - taking the community for granted.
I had Plus for over 10 years before I 'defected' so I have a bunch of value in subbing to the Essentials plan, but right now I just don't feel good about it.
1. Ratchet and Clank - loved the rift mechanic and how it showed off the SSD tech 2. Kena - beautiful art, and love that this is coming from an indie developer 3. Horizon II - sequel to my fav game on PS4
It would be 'satisfying' to have access to, and the ability to play the whole back catalogue of games on one PlayStation console. (It's one of the things I am envious of PC gamers over).
Even if PS5 was PS4 and PS2 backwards compatible that would be amazing, at least you'd then only need a PS3 and PS5 to have access to the full library.
If true, perhaps this could be used as a test for aN ongoing Sony-Konami relationship that, might (just might) make a way for a Kojima-developed MGS game? Bit of a stretch I know!
This drives me mad. It’s actually the only reason I have decided against getting PSNow. I have PS plus and don’t want to miss out on the monthly games because I have Now. I find it crazy that Sony still hasn’t fixed it.

'...to help kids learn about money' by selling pointless skins as micro-transactions, which causes an instant game-over
