Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 375

ralphdibny

@kyleforrester87 nice one brother, I've sent over a score because a tenner felt too cheap 😅 and the anonymous push Square peep below me in the donations list is putting everyone to shame 😂

Good luck with it mate!

I may add you to PSN, I feel like you can know my real name now that I have made a financial investment in you to ride from Cornwall to Scotland!

Re: Poll: Is PlayStation Plus Video Pass the Right Way to Expand PS Plus?

ralphdibny

@PossibLeigh across borders 😨, that really sucks! Luckily we are only a few counties away but it's still a good couple hours on the road. Is what it is really, we manage!

I think BL was great in its first season but then is a bit up and down from there. It's short seasons too which really helps it because there is a lack of filler episodes.

Haha have you not seen Young Justice? Sportsmaster is epic in that! I don't know why I love him so much lol. I've only seen the original two series. I've yet to watch the revival. Good to know he makes an appearance in Star girl though.

Re: Poll: Is PlayStation Plus Video Pass the Right Way to Expand PS Plus?

ralphdibny

@PossibLeigh I think we differ after 2nd place 😅. The rest of them are about as good as eachother so shared 3rd place for me. Black Lightning is probably the best of the bunch and Flash is probably the worse imo. Only because it's patchy though, sometimes its really good and sometimes it's just a chore to get through.

Yeah I think Legends has started or is starting up again soon! Will be a while before I watch it because I watch it with my partner normally and this pandemic is keeping us apart at the moment. We haven't watched Star Girl yet either and I think that looks really good so I have high hopes!

Re: Poll: Is PlayStation Plus Video Pass the Right Way to Expand PS Plus?

ralphdibny

@PossibLeigh legends of tomorrow is a close second for me too. Haven't seen any of the new series of the Arrowverse yet. Probably will give them a watch at some point. Not sure how good the Flash will be without my favourite companion around 😂. They could have at least replaced him with my second favourite companion Julian!

Re: PS5 Controller's Haptic Feedback Improved in PS4 Games

ralphdibny

That's good, I really like the rumble in the DS4. It might not be as specific as the Switch HD rumble but it just works well for certain games, especially Crash Team Racing.

The Xbox One pads rumble is excellent in games like Forza that use the rumble triggers but it is so damn loud, same with the Switch HD Rumble.

I'm yet to try the DualSense but I eagerly await it! It's just good to know that the PS4 will have its generationally unique rumble preserved going into backwards compatibility

Re: PS5's Hourly Disc Spinning Sound Seems to Have Been Reduced

ralphdibny

@get2sammyb ahh that's so annoying. I do wonder how much they can actually do in terms of making the drive quieter but at the very least they should only require a spin when the game boots up as the physical DRM check and get rid of all the willy nilly hourly spins. I'm sure the PS4 just boots you out of the game if you take the disc out anyway. Surely the process should just be Spin on Boot > Suspend game if eject button is pressed

@Mostik ah fair enough. It's a really weird problem. I am interested to know if the noise is as noticeable when it's spinning a movie disc for 2+ hours. I mean, if you can hear it over the speaker sound in a game once an hour then surely blu rays must be unwatchable if it's spinning constantly? So weird, hopefully they improve it more!

Re: Rival Schools' Akira Kazama Returns in Street Fighter 5

ralphdibny

@RaZieLDaNtE cheers! I think I just about got away with it because it had the word "schools" in the title. I remember my dad giving me hassle about buying Mortal Kombat Trilogy because it was a "15" even though I'd played all the previous games and had seen both movies before that 😅

I loved all the sports mini games in Rival Schools like the baseball and the penalty shootouts. I'd love modern and comprehensive collections of the Darkstalkers and Capcom Vs games. Would be awesome. Stay safe to you too!

Re: Rival Schools' Akira Kazama Returns in Street Fighter 5

ralphdibny

I loved Rival Schools so much. The PS1 game was such a complete package with the arcade mode on one disc and a more home console-ified version with plenty of mini games on the other disc. I played all the different modes so much as a kid, it was brilliant.

I'd love a similarly packaged revival to come out with everything available in one purchase at launch. None of this 10 years worth of season passes shenanigans that plague modern fighting games.

I'm really excited for Akira in SFV, she was one of my favourite characters in Rival Schools along with Shoma, Matsu, Batsu, Sakura and the rest of the characters! I'm just still waiting on that elusive "complete" edition of SFV to drop before I spend any money on it!

Re: Sony Suggests MLB Made the Decision to Include MLB The Show 21 on Xbox Game Pass

ralphdibny

@get2sammyb I thought I'd give you a shout because you seem to be getting it from all angles in this comment section.

I just wanted to say that what I love about Push Square (and NL and PX) is that you don't shill to the companies you report on. At least you don't outwardly appear to do so from my perspective anyway! You give criticism where criticism is due and praise where praise is due.

Whether I agree or not with the criticism or praise is not necessarily relevant, I fall on both sides of the fence with plenty of the sites opinions. That's a good thing though, it shows that you are willing to voice valid opinions even if they can be divisive.

I don't think it has become overly negative yet, I'm sure you may find your breaking point with it in terms of the sites readership but I suspect it's still a long way off. It's nowhere near as bad as the last website I used to visit before I found NL and by extension PS and PX. That site was WiiUDaily which subsequently became NintendoToday, the line they crossed for me was when every positive article was tinged with a closing line that brought it back to the site's overall negative perception of Nintendo at the time which I found to be unhelpful and depressing. The difference with you is that your frustration for certain issues seems to come from a genuine love for all things Playstation so it's much more positive and for me is much more enjoyable to read about.

But yeah, I've never considered myself to be a popular person or a good businessman so my opinion may not be worth much but I just wanted to say I appreciate the appropriate tone that you take with your articles!

Re: 10 Digital-Only PS3 Games You Should Buy Before Sony Shuts the PS Store

ralphdibny

@Flaming_Kaiser yeah I agree! I've definitely splashed out on a few expensive physical games to top up/complete collections. A couple notable ones from the last 5 years were MGS Twin Snakes on GameCube for £40 and MGS for game boy color for £40 both complete in box.

I just try to be picky in terms of what retro games I want physically otherwise I'll just be inundated with games and have an empty bank account. I'm slightly less picky with newer games so I have a huge backlog. I was just looking at my switch games shelf the other day and I was literally like "wtf, I don't remember buying this many games!". I think I get that FOMO with newer games, you just never know what game will be difficult to source 5 years down the line so I tend to over extend to buying games that I'm not as fussed about.

Another recent one that gave me some trouble was Resident Evil 7 Gold Edition for Xbox one. They just stopped printing them so secondhand they were like £30-50. I already have it on PS4 but I wanted them all on Xbox so I wasn't keen on paying that much. I kept my ear to the ground though and picked one up for £18 off eBay after much waiting.

Re: 10 Digital-Only PS3 Games You Should Buy Before Sony Shuts the PS Store

ralphdibny

@Flaming_Kaiser it's a bit of a mixed bag really, I don't like that stuff becomes unavailable to buy on a whim with digital. Even before the shutdown, they had removed licensed games like the Marvel Ultimate Alliance series and Marvel Vs Capcom 2. The same could be said about physical though except the games are still in the wild but an inflated price reflects their scarcity.

I would generally prefer an all physical option but not at a huge premium. When triple A games are going for a couple of quid digitally, they are hard to pass up! I try to keep my LRG purchases to a minimum, just like special occasions because shipping to the UK is too expensive. I normally buy the FMV games like Night Trap, Dragons Lair etc. I have a pre-order open for Corpse Killer still (all on Switch). I felt a bit bummed out when I bought Streets of Rage 4 and Panzer Dragoon from them, they just didn't feel worth the premium price.

Re: 10 Digital-Only PS3 Games You Should Buy Before Sony Shuts the PS Store

ralphdibny

@Flaming_Kaiser nah you definitely read it right! I read it too! I saw some of the ps plus games that I'd claimed were now available to buy around the time of that article but it was a very limited selection and now I never see them any more. Maybe they half fixed and rolled it back or something 🤷‍♂️. The only games I see that are now available to buy is stuff where a game has changed publisher so I can buy the newly published version, stuff like Sherlock Holmes crimes and punishments and tales from the borderlands

Re: 10 Digital-Only PS3 Games You Should Buy Before Sony Shuts the PS Store

ralphdibny

Cheers for the list! I'm mostly concerned about games that aren't available on other consoles or aren't BC on Xbox. The castlevania games are BC on Xbox. I'm tempted by the RE lightgun games but it would mean sourcing a working PS3 camera sooner rather than later and if they are available on Wii anyway then I'm not so fussed.

I have Festival of Blood and Far Cry Blood Dragon. I don't think the MK arcade collection is BC on Xbox (not sure) but Darkstalkers Resurrection definitely isn't so I'll be buying that when my PS Plus sub runs out and it allows me to buy it.

Anna Extended Edition isn't BC on Xbox either. Definitely considering Tokyo Jungle even though I didn't get on with it that much.

Am I right in thinking the PS4 ports of Jak and Daxter are emulated PS2 games whereas the PS3 versions are full HD remasters? Might pick that one up physically. Ratchet and Clank HD Trilogy is super expensive physically though so I'll definitely be picking that up off the store.

Re: Sony Confirms PS3, PS Vita, PSP Store Closures, Downloads Will Be Retained

ralphdibny

I think the most annoying part about this is that it came along in a year where a lot of people are suffering financially. If it happened next year then I think I could stretch to picking up a bunch of games I'd been holding off on for a while but as it stands, I will either have to impoverish myself or go without.

I'm just glad my ps plus sub runs out about a month before the deadline so I can actually use the lapsed sub time to pick up the few gems the service has introduced to me.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Buy a PS1, PS2, or PS3 Emulator for PS5?

ralphdibny

I would possibly spend around £5-10 on each emulator to play the games on a console. I wish Xbox would throw their emulator out into the wild too because even now, you are limited to their BC games list. I'd love to just have the emulator to use how I wanted to with no expectation that every single game would run perfectly.

Re: Doom 3: VR Edition Reimagines the 2004 FPS Classic in Virtual Reality

ralphdibny

Nice! The BFG edition on PS3 supported 3D on compatible TVs too, I tried it briefly but the default settings were a bit too weird and I couldn't get into it. I don't think I thought to see if there were settings to change at the time as 3D at home was relatively new at the time.

Doom VFR at 6 hours long was vomit inducing for me though so I doubt I'd be able to make it through the 26 hours of Doom 3 + both expansions!
