Re: Kaz Hirai Asserts the PlayStation 4's Focus on Games

shingi_70

@ajay708
The 24 hour connection thing is the only part that bothers me and that's just rom the perspective of knowing someone with a 360 who doesn't have internet.

The Kinect being always on is something I quite like but I've heard there's a way to turn it off. Honestly I use google now and I hate that I have to go into the app to use it. I wish there was a way my phone was listening so when I say hey google it starts up.

Re: Naughty Dog Sticking with Existing Engine for PS4 Projects

shingi_70

Makes sense seeing as internal engine's are pretty hard to make and should last a long time. Uncharted Engine should last the rest of th next gen and shouldn't have to be replaced till a PS5. The Halo 4 engine is the same one used for the original combat evolved and that's going away next gen.

Not related too Naugty Dog but was it ever confirmed that Knack was using unreal engine 4 or was that just a rumor.

Re: Kaz Hirai Asserts the PlayStation 4's Focus on Games

shingi_70

So its the same thing as the one? good to know?

For the majority of the wider audience they really don't care if it focuses on games, as long as it plays it which Microsoft is counting on.

Still not sure why people would be agitated about the xbox one event however. Microsoft was pretty up front that the Reveal was for Hardware and console features and that this was going to be a three part story that would be finished at E3 and Build 2013. Hell Jeff from Giantbomb said that there were more mainstream/tech press at the xbox reveal than gaming press.

Still I think Sony's all games focused story is going to play up well ,leading up to launch at events like E3, Gamescon, and TGS. I'm not so sure how it might face u with everyone else as the idea of a gaming centric device while not dead is though of as such.

Re: Gamers Bombard PlayStation Executives with Used Game Pleas for PS4

@get2sammyb @TheRealBatman

Won't Sony benefit either way even more if they decide to go the anti consumer route. I mean if they don't decide to DRM used games than they have a marketing advantage against Microsoft but I haven't heard much complaining from the non hardcore about this. I'm would guess most consumers wouldn't care as long as it isn't blocking used games.

As described by Eurogamer this would mean that Sony would own their segment of the used game Market and would profit off of both used and new games.

As a company wouldn't that make more sense than to listen to people complaining who will buy the system either way. I mean the only oter alternatives are a system with no support and another console who would be doing the exact same thing

Sony and Microsoft faced heavy losses most off this generation so I would assume they would do everything they could to gain money before the consoles themselves reach profit per unit sold. Owning the used game Market would do this in spades later next year as more than early adopters go to purchase the systems.

Re: Feature: Xbox Reveal - Microsoft's Biggest Threats to the PS4

@Zombie_Barioth

The subsidized price won't fool anyone and till sell well. Americans at least and pretty used to buying products this way such as phones and even entertainment devices from places like HSN or RAC. People don't mind they're paying more in the end if they're paying less up front.

Re: Feature: Xbox Reveal - Microsoft's Biggest Threats to the PS4

@3Above
Good Science- Kinect Adventures, Kinect Fun Labs
MS LA- New studio based on TV style digital content
MS Mobile gaming- Illomilo for windows phone
platform next- new studio
playful learning - new studio
skybox sports - new studio
Turn 10- Forza
xbox live production- the south park xbla games.
Lift London- New studio based on cloud gaming
Soho Productions- the sesame street Kinect tv
Press Play - max and the magic marker,
Big Park- Joyride
Black Tusk Studios - new studio
MS Victoria- new studio

a lot of these studios have been formed or bought a bit after 343i was made to bring back Microsoft's first party after looking at sony. Most are working on either xbla games, AAA games, or Kinect titles. As well Lionhead and Rare have went through major restructuring since Phil Harrison has joined their European outfit.

Re: Feature: Xbox Reveal - Microsoft's Biggest Threats to the PS4

shingi_70

@get2sammy
Microsoft has been building up its studios since 2009. So far they have

343 Industries
Good Science Studios
Microsoft Studios LA
MS Mobile gaming
Platfrom next
playful learning
skybox sports
Turn 10
Twisted Pixel
xbox live production
Rare
Lionhead
Lift London
Soho Productions
Press Play
Big Park
Black Tusk Studios
MS Victoria

With Microsoft being already ramped down on 360 development it would be fool hardy to underestimate how quickly they could build a library between first party studios and third paty partners (crytek, epic, Signal Studios, etc).

Remember the ton of software support the 360 had upon launch till maybe 2010/2011.

I think a subsidy price mixed with Microsofts media hype train might be a problem.

Re: Talking Point: Is Sony Racing into Trouble with DriveClub on the PS4?

shingi_70

Well you face the eventual problem of drive club II interfering with GT6. Really not sure why Sony decided to sign off two racing games that happen to be so similar in presentation and scope. (being a Video Game version of a Car catalog)

It would help if Drive Club was so far removed from what GT is. Its ne of the reasons why I picked up horizon despite getting forza 3 a few months before.

Re: Rumour: Sony Planning Second PS4 Unveiling Before E3

shingi_70

@ShogunRok

The Hype train will run regardless since its a new console. Best to hold off till E3 to get maximum press coverage. Trying to drown out Microsoft has the possibility of backfiring.

I hope at this ear's e3 sony has separate events like Nintendo does for the the vita.

Re: Rumour: Sony Planning Second PS4 Unveiling Before E3

shingi_70

@hydeks

This really wouldn't bring all the attention back to the PS4. It would be a nice side event but most of the press would still be on the xbox train depending on what's announced.

Also this wouldn't take away from the xbox Hype since we would be following both consoles all the way to e3. Then right after E3 Microsoft is hosting the three day Build conference that's rumored to have a ton of developer stuff for the next xbox.

At this point i'm not sure if having a second event this close to E3 would be a good idea. Press conferences are usually booked months in advance and trying to pin a vague date to compete with Microsoft seems foolish.

This could really backfire with the Sony 2nd conference being buried not only by the Xbox event (lets be honest Microsoft has the momentum in the USA and will have the advantage of the new shiney in terms of media) but Google I/o is in may as well.

Re: Talking Point: Are Indie Games Enough to Save the PlayStation Vita?

shingi_70

Yes and No.

Getting a ton of indie support coupled with the PlayStation features will save the Vita in the eyes of gamers and get rid of the Vuta has no games narrative its had since launch.

On the commercial side of things this won't help the Vita that much. Since on consoles indie games are usually a nice thing that might be your favorite part of the console but not the reason why you buy one.

Re: Reaction: PlayStation 4 Catches Second Wind at GDC

shingi_70

Well Nintendo is also being pretty proactive about publicly grabbing developers. They recently announced every Dev Kit comes with unity and is having a GDC panel on HTML development.
Its encouraging to see Sony go hard to garner support for its system. You also have to remember they can publicly talk about stuff unlike Microsoft. I just wish these cofrences would be live streamed as well.

One thing to note is Paul Thurrott and Tom Warren who are pretty reputable Microsoft bloggers are pretty sure that the xbox reveal is next month. Alongside that Microsoft is hosting its three day Build Developer conference in June two weeks after E3.

Re: Microsoft Takes a Shot at Sony's PlayStation 4 Reveal

shingi_70

@Kage_88

Yes ruined rare by having them put out their most successful game in the past ten years that got really good word of mouth. That was after them work on nothing but commercial failures with great critical reception. What bizzaro world do people live in where Kameo, Viva Pinata, Perfect Dark Zero, Kinect sports, and banjo nuts n bolts are bad games.

@hydeks

Yet the article conviently missed his next tweets about the creativity of the industry and his actual thoughts would be on this weeks podcast.

Also how is naming your gamer handle after something that was considered culturally relevant during his childhood stupid. You must hate all those guys with Nintendo or anime related usernames.

Re: Microsoft Takes a Shot at Sony's PlayStation 4 Reveal

shingi_70

Couldn't you say the same thing about the adverts Sony put up leading up to the PlayStation meeting. I mean how is this even considered news?

Dude is the programing and PR director for Xbox so how does that make him a corporate slut?

@hydeks

Major nelson is derived from the name of the main character of I dream of Jeannie.

Re: Talking Point: Sony's Gaikai Acquisition Hints at a Bright Future

shingi_70

Cant wait to see what happens. Hopefully they can inplment it in current gen for a netlfix style system for ps3 and vita.

I do think this is going to make nintendo the odd man out again unless they buy onlive. Sony has bought these guys and Microsoft has deep roots in cloud computing and has probably started taking that toward gaming.
