So where are people at in the game now it's been out a week? I've just opened the door in the swamp which I think leads to Farron keep? I also got the bonfire which is at the start of the Cathedral of the Deep area.
Also has anyone else been having trouble with the PvP covenants? I've been hanging around the Crucifixion Woods (level 35, weapon plus 3) but can't get summoned with either Blue Sentinals or Watchdogs. Anyone know anything about this?
Similar. Finished cathedral of the deep, got through poison swamp ready to take on Darron keep.
I put on blue sentinels yesterday and got summoned twice (lvl 40-something +4 weapon). Once didn't find them in time, other time the host killed them fast. Got invaded once and lost.
What am I supposed to do with the woman in the prison in the undead village? I'm guessing I access through the canyon, and I get into the canyon via the locked gate in the sewer with the rats but I can't find the key for said gate. Maybe it's found later on in the game, though? :S
@kyleforrester87: Damn that's pretty annoying. I should've expected it I suppose, I always seem to mess up questlines on the first playthrough. I aggroed Eileen the crow in Bloodborne by accident and had no choice but to kill her
I just got to the Profaned Capital so quite a bit further ahead it seems. These later areas are even better.
Been hesitant to get into this series due to its high difficulty curve, but I love rpgs and this game looks amazing. Questions: do I need to have played the old dark souls to understand the story? Can you have multiple saves of different classes? How many controllers will I break by playing this game? Thanks in advance for your comments.

More than just played them, since the story is told in a unique way - through your own actions, small bits of Lore, and really in a way where if you don't want to see it you can finish a game and not know what is going on. This one is much better about being clear about your goals, though so don't let that scare you off. Exploration at your own direction is a big part of it though.
Luckily there was a contest where they paid someone $10,000 to explain wtf happened in the first two games. The winner was great, and is on YouTube so I highly recommend you look it up.
You can have multiple characters but each toon gets one save, auto saved. You can back up your save data (one big file for all data) to online storage, experiment, then restore from online storage without issue. You may need this to get through some of the more obtuse systems (if I upgrade this weapon will I like it?)
As per earlier in the thread, you shouldn't break any controllers. Go in with the understanding that you will die, often, and often when a boss is at 5% health. You will get invaded while very far from a Checkpoint and die. Go in accepting this is part of the experience and don't let it get to you.
As a pyromancer I was a bit worried because I arrived in Cathedral of the Deep without having met a pyro merchant. I broke the "no-guide-on-first-run rule", realizing I should have met Cornyx 15 hours ago! Am I the only one here who missed him?
@consolfreak1982: I always mess my first run with any Souls game, but it's ok since the game is made to be played again and again. On my second run I uses guides to do the things I missed previously.
And yes, playing Bloodborne I told the Suspicios Beggar to go to Odeon Chapel and later I felt like an idiot, but on the second run it was so sweet to kill him at first sight!
@andreoni79: haha well I mostly dont play games on a new game plus a second time - mostly because I move on to some other game after finishing. And well, the Souls-Series is kinda .. special ... LOL since Im not that much of a pro gamer I just dont wanna miss out on any cool and helpful stuff (like Estus Shards for example). I always approach new areas alone without the wiki, and after exploring on my own I look up all the secrets and missable stuff ^^
