Borrowed the game from a friend, like I said I would, and I'm glad I did. I will be buying it at some point because it is extremely fun to play. I like to give credit where it's due and they nailed the gameplay. Which just makes it more unfortunate that they didn't just make a few simple changes to make the single player a little better on day one. Even if they had just expanded the story mode to something like opening cutscene followed by 6 best 2-out-of-3-round fights, closing cutscene, it would've been better. There's no doubt, just based on how fun it is, that the game will be better when it's complete so there's the plus side. I still have to wonder if maybe a Free-to-play model might've been better.
Was wondering if anyone here could clarify the pre-order bonus DLC situation. Did you guys get a redemption code for the DLC or did it automatically download into your game?
EDIT: Finally got the code and apparently for those pre-ordered the game the DLC was preloaded together with game.
So I might rent this game through Gamefly but no way am I paying 60 bucks for this. I won't play enough of the online mode since I am not very good at fighting games to warrent spending 60 dollars on it so unless I can get it for cheap down the road, I won't be getting it.

Now the servers are working I'm having much more fun with it. Cammy is my favourite character so far, though I've only really tried her and Ryu at the moment.

I'm in the same boat. I might get it down the road after a price drop and they add more SP content.
I at least would like to see an actual arcade mode. I may not use single player in fighters too often, but I like to use arcade mode to test some stuff in a fight before going online.

@Splat: Yeah if they have enough SP content down the road say like MK X does then I might consider it. As it is I have enough versions of SF II to calm any SF cravings I might get.

I more or less forced myself into it with a pre-order and season pass (stupid!), the gameplay and presentation is good to great, but ""this is not"" a 60 dollar fighter right now. I would wait till March or June. I've already deleted it from my drive due to the disappointment. 4 to 7 minute long "story" modes? GTFO.
First impressions: The gameplay is sublime, like truly sublime. The graphics are gorgeous with the only blemish being the shadow textures are pretty poor which is a shame because it slightly prevents the artstyle from reallying popping. Story mode? Oh dear. This should have been the game's arcade mode but the campaigns are abysmally short with no real benefit to learn your Fighter. The one good thing it does have though is that it's easy fight money which will go toward Alex. Survival is much better but each difficulty doesn't say how many matches you need to complete. And the prize is a costume that you need to pay FM in March!! Now I've defended Capcom on their stance to focus so much on the online aspects but in doing so they are taking a high stakes gamble on the game's immediate future. I have no doubt that the game will grow into one of the best experiences of the generation because it's gaming foundations are incredibly solid. But buying day one like I and others have done...I'll be honest, I think I got it wrong this time.
Just delete it and redownload it when you feel like the content us up to snuff (or when you can actually access certain portions of the menu, lol). It will feel more like new that way. So sometime in March, the store, challenges, Alex, and hopefully a few extra morsels will be available.
I agree with you that this game will blossom into a gem given time, but Capcom, if you had let this one cook a little longer, you could have had an all time great from the start instead of a pretty bare bones package.
@sub12: You've got a point, I'm just disappointed that Capcom have released in the way they have. I agree with the others that the game should have come out in March now, while allowing pro players early access codes in February.
Just away from SFV for a second, did you know you can play Street Fighter II on Vita?! I never did, till the other day lol.
If you haven't already, do the same method to get the PSP only Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max, which has about 10x the content of SFV (and is just an amazing fighting game in it's own right).
@sub12: Yeah fighting games for me have always been about the single player mode and being able to play with friends in the same room. Online I am just not good enough or all I run into are Ryu's consistently spamming frieballs.

In Europe it is, in NA we got screwed over with it, we also don't have any of the Crash or Spyro games on the Vita PSN, or the Genesis (Mega Drive) collection.......
But we do have the Metal Slug anthology, unlike Europe.
