@Ralizah Nice, thanks! I was expecting 8-9's average, and it seems to be hitting that mark. I tried to get it at lunch but it wasn't on the Nintendo store yet. I hope it's live later, I'll get it this evening.
While I still don't like the art, I do have to admit, the music is absolutely on point. The controls also seem solid, from what I saw. I watched a playthrough of the first nine minutes or so. I also like that this seems to have a decent narrative to it, which should help to distinguish it from other, more level-based games in the genre like Slime-san and Super Meat Boy.
@Ralizah I was a die hard Journey skeptic too...then I played it . I think for what that game is it's in a league of it's own and nothing else compares to it. Now would I play Journey over a game like Nioh is another question... .
Did not expect that from Celeste! Seems like it will be this years indie darling. Wasn't even on my radar, but I can hardly ignore it now.
It's a bit pricey so I'll wait for a sale. I'll snap it up once it hits <£7 for either PS4 or Switch- whichever version drops faster (so PS4).

It's err.. very good so far! But then I was bound to say that! Is it worth £20? I don't know, depends how much there is to it. But first impressions are great and I'm pretty confident it'll end up having been priced at the correct point.. or at least close to.
I can see why £20 would put a lot of people off, though.
@kyleforrester87 Haha, I cant manage any more games. 10/10 games are like 7/10 games 2 years ago lol.

@themcnoisy oh yeah no doubt, still keep an eye on it down the line when perhaps it's cheaper/on PS+ - I was playing it last night and had the same buzz I got (and haven't had since) as when I was playing Hotline Miami
@kyleforrester87 hotline miami is crazy tough on the ds4, I finished hotline miami but halfway through my second run whilst picking up the collectibles for the real ending gave up in the end about 8 levels in, I was fighting with the controller more often than not. Its still difficult but achievable with a mouse and is way more fun. I will keep an eye out for that recommend though!
@Ralizah Ive never understood why reviews are out of 10. They are primarily there to aid a reader make a purchasing decision. So the score should surely be a price the reviewer would be happy to pay!

I always look at review scores as indicative of their quality within the price structure and genre. I don't think a 7 for an indie game is equivalent to a AAA 7 where expectation is higher for the price you are paying. I also wouldn't think a 7 in a FPS is necessarily the same as a 7 in an RPG. That FPS is competing (probably) against what other FPS games offer and, if in a franchise, how it compares to predecessors too.
I do think budget must come into the scoring. You can't score an indie with the same expectation as a big budget AAA game - its not fair!

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

I’ve been playing the divisive little indie Fez off and on over recent weeks and gradually it has grown on me. I definitely still consider it a niche title and I can see why most people probably don’t really care for it after trying it. It’s not particularly hard as far as the platforming and shifting perspective once you get the hang of it, but it is very difficult to navigate the map and find the cubes and keys and just to understand what the heck is going on. I finally got 32 cubes last night and completed the “normal” ending. It was pretty bizarre too. The game definitely does not spoon feed you a clear story. I feel like there is some underlying existential philosophical point to be made here but I’m just not smart enough to see it. It appears that playing through New Game+ is important and rather involved, so I’ve started that. Got the sunglasses now! But the game, or at least the logic of it, is hard enough I resorted to using a guide to help know what to do and I actually started enjoying the game much more when I did that. So now I plan to go through and clear the whole map and pick up all the secrets and anti-cubes so I can see the true ending.
My huge gripe though is how poor the trophies are. After all this time and effort I get just a lousy silver for completing the normal ending! Gah, come on! And there is just one gold at the end for finding everything. That is so lame! But I’m enjoying it enough to play it just for the games sake.
( @themcnoisy@kyleforrester87 - I thought you guys might specifically be interested in an update on how I’m liking the game)

@Th3solution Good to hear you kept plugging away at it!
Don't be afraid to use guides to be honest. It's thought there are still unsolved puzzles in the game, and there is one in particular that uses a code that's been solved by brute forced but there must be a way to actually solve it using information in the game.
@Th3solution Fez is amazing! I loved every single bit of it. I'm a bit fan of puzzle games, so figuring out how the map works, the language, and all the other hints, it's was very clever.
I believe there's one cube piece you want to look up. I don't think any one till this day knows how to solve it the way it is intended. People only discovered the solution by brute forcing it. But they've been trying to reverse-engineering the solution. And it goes beyond what you would expect of a game. People have found various images in the audio files using a spectrograph, it's pretty complicated, but I there are a few articles on it, it's an interesting read for when you've beat the rest of the game.
