Beloved Mortal Kombat 1 developer Ed Boon is teasing some intriguing additions to the latest iteration of the now-venerable fighting franchise. The current roster was already a rogue's gallery of murderers and general villainy, but these latest are comprised of some of the worst monsters in all media.
Boon tweeted an image showing the nightmarish visages of some of horror's most infamous murderers, with ticks against those who have appeared in the series as guest characters previously, like Leatherface, Freddy Krueger, and Jason Voorhees.
However, those with question marks against their faces are of particular interest. Jigsaw, Ghostface, Chucky, Pinhead, and Michael Myers would all find fast friends in the current Mortal Kombar lineup. This could be Boon playing with the community or a potential portent of things to come.
What do you think of these potentially villainous additions to the Mortal Kombat 1 roster? Would you welcome them? Dare to dream in the comments section below.

Ghostface was the one leaked, if I remember correctly? In my opinion, the most logical picks for MK have already been used with Jason and Freddy. It really is a shame that Netherrealm hasn’t just been given free rein for a cinematic universe fighting game. They do such a good job with these. I’d rather have that than another Injustice, personally. C’mon, Freddy, Jason, Predator, Terminator, Rambo, Robocop, Bruce Lee, etc. It could be classic!
Now that said, man, do I hope we get The Bride from Kill Bill. I’d actually buy that one at release instead of for like $5 a few years after the fact.
Just give me Ash already.
It would also be fun. That's the-that's the clown monster 'It.'
...Nic Cage in a bear suit?
If leaks are true Ghostface is coming. Personally i would pick Pinhead as their a much better choice and would really suit the series.
@somnambulance A horror/action icon fighting game would be licencing hell but man it would be incredible.
I'd really like to see Father Jack (from Father Ted) as a DLC character.
I think just like in mk9 i dislike guest characters and they remove hype for the game for me. I don't want a scary movie cameo character that is completely irrelevant, i want mortal kombat characters and lore.
This stuff is part of why i stopped buying MK games and just check them out from afar.
But, i know some people like them. My money isn't going that way though.
They should go down a more cult route now that they’ve hit the main 80s lot. Give us Buffy or Angel! Kiefer Sutherland from the Lost Boys would be cool too. For a deep cut, ScarJo from Under the Skin. Non-horror pick would be Anton Chigurh from No Country for Old Men or something Doctor Who related would be hilarious.
@Nem exactly this. If mortal kombat stayed within its own universe i'd be more inclined to try this release but they keep putting in characters that are just not part of the whole MK lore (this is a personal opinion by the way) and for me its a bit naff and stinks of a lack of imagination. So many MK characters they could incorporate from previous iterations if they are struggling to invent new characters.
As everyone else already said, Ghostface leaked from a recent datamine (also Jade, thank CHRIST).
As a horror aficionado, he's really the only one left that makes sense to me...outside of Ash, who we're just not gonna get, they tried but for whatever reason they couldn't get him (even though f'ing Call of Duty just did, that pisses me off).
Michael Myers could work, but I can't think of way to make him feel/play differently than Jason in MKX. Victor Crowley, from Hatchet, could be pretty cool...but, again, he's just kinda Jason. Obviously Chucky or Leprechaun or Jigsaw won't work for logistical hitbox reasons. Pinhead isn't a fighter, so they'd have to get REAL weird and creative to make that work (which I'm super down for, but that seems like a huge longshot).
And, holy sh*t, as I was typing this it hit me like a bolt of lightning...TOXIE, of The Toxic Avenger (which just so happens to have a remake/reboot coming soonish). He's both super fun and super gross, just absolutely a PERFECT fit for Mortal Kombat.
I want to see Michael Myers from Halloween as a Guest Character in Mortal Kombat 1 for Kombat Pack 2
@GeneJacket should Michael Myers be in Kombat Pack 2 or Kombat Pack 3
@Joshua_08D-Gamer Neither?
Personal preference, but I don't want Michael in MK...he just doesn't really fit, imo. Like I said before, I don't know what you could do with him that wouldn't just make him a basically Jason again, and I'd rather just have Jason back.
I think a Big Trouble In Little China DLC pack would be perfect for an MK game. (Unlike the randoms they just keep throwing in there). Jack Burton, Wang , Lo Pan, that guy who was clearly the inspiration for the original Raiden, that big monster thing that hides in Jack's truck at the end. They could get the original voice cast, man it would fit the MK universe like a glove!
Why don't they just make a horror movie crossover fighting game?
@GeneJacket Michael fits just as much as Jason
@DennisReynolds
I agree! If I'm not mistaken, Ghostface is just a normal dude who dresses up like that. Although I haven't seen SCREAM movies after part 2 or 3, so maybe that changed.
All the other characters are supernatural beings, which fit more into the game if you ask me.
Although, Jigsaw is also just a dude. The famous puppet we see is just his avatar he uses to scare people and not an actual being.
Am I the only one who thinks it would be inspired if NetherRealm managed to get Nosferatu Zodd from Berserk in the roster??
I’m sure Chucky or JigSaw would be a sidekick if they were to be included..
I’d like to see Blade or Pennywise myself.. and I never got to play with the Ninja Turtles
Jigsaw as DLC in Mortal Kombat whether it would be John Kramer or Amanda or Hoffman would just not make sense. They have no business or personal gain in Mortal Kombat anyway.
Whats the point of cramming a character from Saw into Mortal Kombat? Same thing with Charles Lee Ray aka Chucky. Why and what for?
@Skeletor85 Michael is just a guy (super vague Cult of Thorn supernatural nonsense aside).
.Jason is a literal zombie (or, if we count Jason Goes to Hell, an actual demon).
Pinhead is perfect for the MK universe. could have so many creative specials and fatalities
When I bought MK11 it was the version with all the DLC so these characters were included already. Since I've purchased the standard edition of MK1, f I don't purchase these characters will that keep them from popping up as a selection if I were to chose a random opponent offline.
@Joshua_08D-Gamer Sorry 'bout your luck, clearly real person and not at all obvious bot...
@Darknexus I could see Pinhead working if the Lament Configuration is doing everything. If he's basically just standing there doing zero fighting of his own, both hands lightly extended holding/manipulating the box to call in chains and hooks and cenobites to do his bidding and move him around. That could be VERY cool, but I could also see a character that weird being a little too far outside of scope for a DLC character...but NRS tends to go all out, even with dlc, so who knows.
