Two of the upcoming titles showcased during Xbox’s big Developer Direct [No, we’re not using the underscore – Ed] will play best on PS5 Pro. Well, that’s assuming you prefer to play on console and don’t have a beefy PC rig loitering around.
The PS Store pre-order pages for first-person shooter DOOM: The Dark Ages and action RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 both confirm that the titles will be PS5 Pro Enhanced. Of course, we’ll need to wait until nearer to release to learn exactly how they’re taking advantage of Sony’s hardware.
Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, which stealth launched digitally overnight, is also enhanced on the PS5 Pro, so you can likely expect the same from the upcoming Ninja Gaiden 4, due out later this year from Team Ninja and PlatinumGames.
Will you be playing any of these on Sony’s mid-gen refresh? Enjoy clearer graphics and smoother performance in the comments section below.

It would be quite entertaining if a MS studio managed to get PSSR running better than one of Sonys own.
Excellent news, hopefully it is par for the course moving forward and they do a decent job of implementation!
@Weebleman It would be funny, but I would take it as a W.
It's obvious now that's all games going forward will be PRO'd up right?
@0niguy They all have to run on it but don’t necessarily need to be enhanced for it. But yes, safe to assume most games will be enhanced.
So much looking forward to Doom. Looks like it will be a blast to play with a soundtrack out of this world
I will get around to Doom at some point. Clair Obscur might be day one for me.
@Weebleman Sony's own studios are not the ones with issues as the Sony 1st party games and games Sony published like Stellar Blade and Ronin used PSSR well.
@get2sammyb
On one of the DF videos leading up to launch Richard Leadbetter said something about Sony having mandated Pro enhancement for all (presumably AAA) games going forward similar to MS and their X/S split. Do we now know thats not the case?
Im very sorry, I really cant remember which video - I watched so many (as Sony werent really doing their own!) at the time its all a bit of a blur!
@Weebleman
Simular to @DennisReynolds that would be unlikely, but they could definitely make certain 3rd party studios look silly.
In fact I believe it was an Activision guy who said he wondered why some 3rd parties had had such trouble implementing PSSR well, as they had done it in half a day (or something like that).
Edit: just read a post by @themightyant which makes a good counter point RE PSSR being added during full development vs patched in.
Would it convince me to buy the games (ie having superior versions to PS5 / Series X), NO, but it would help as the games would look / run better, and thats always a plus.
But, if they didnt do a significantly improved Pro version of the game over series X, I would definitely not buy them!
PS5 Pro is great, but I'll probably play them both on Game Pass. id in particular are wizards and I expect Doom to run well on everything.
@Weebleman It's pretty likely. PSSR will be more mature, devs will know how to handle it, and crucially it will likely have been a part of the main development and QA process unlike the games that are being back ported.
I'll try them on Gamepass, but I fully expect to buy Clair Obscur, so that will be on the pro.
Doom looked fantastic, and if its as good as it seems I'm likely to buy that too - again on pro. If I buy a game, I want the best version, and the creaky controller on Xbox means I always prefer playing on the PS pad. My wife won't even play on the Xbox controllers, so I buy all on PS except for exclusives. If I'm not buying, then you cant beat GPU for price
All debating about PSSR
The developers of doom id could use their own upscaling engine on PS5 Pro.
It’s was used on the Indy game on the series x and is a fantastic upscaler.
Developers don’t have to use PSSR.
Sonys own HFW doesn’t use PSSR and is probably the best looking game on PS5 Pro, well so DF said.
Looking forward to both but don’t really care about the Pro to be honest
@Rich33
I don’t think developers have to make a PS5 Pro upgraded version of their game.
But if the developers want to label their game PS5 Pro enhanced it had to meet certain criteria and rules and use at least one updated path say fps, ray tracing or resolution. But not all of them.
@themightyant and this is the main reason I picked up the pro. The back end of the generation is likely where it will start to shine through, rather than existing titles getting it added.
Similar to you, i will likely dip into a few months of gamepass to check them out and, if there's any i really enjoy, pick them up at a discount for the pro later down the line.
@DennisReynolds @Rich33 I probably should have been clearer in my comment as it wasn't intended to be a dig at Sony, just a thought that made me chuckle.
I know some use pssr really well, it's still just weird seeing the xbox logo pop up. Especially when it's likely they will get a boost. Strange times was more the point I intended over anything.
Happy with GP for all these, I’m sure they’ll all look and run great on Series X. Enjoying the Pro too though, just finished TLOU and now onto Dead Island 2.
Seeing Microsoft-published games with PS5 Pro enhancements... what a time to be alive!
@Weebleman
But it was a good point if applied to certain 3rd parties, and if im right and it was someone from Activision who said how easy it was to implement (and they implement well), it could show that MS is serious about making the Pro the best version. Though like you, this idea makes me chuckle - and if me from 3 years ago heard it I would check it wasn't 1st April.
Hence my other comment in this thread RE only buying from them if the Pro is a significant step up from Series X - its not so much a console wars thing, but more a "I will buy if you show you are serious about doing this right" kind of thing.
N.i.c.e. both games is going to play the best on ps5 pro.word up son
@ButterySmooth30FPS Seeing PlayStation published games day one on Game Pass was quite a thrill too. 😂
@OldGamer999
But we dont know either way for sure.
RL (DF) knows his stuff, and if I remember rightly they visited Sony 3 times prior to launch, but it may have been a throwaway comment based on expectations.
Thats why I queried Sammy as they should have sources.
@Rich33 completley agree. You are also correct in that it was a COD dev I believe that made that comment. Something to do with how PSSR interacts with noise filters that took one person half an hour to clear up.
@__jamiie MLB The Show?
@Rich33 They have to support it but they don’t necessarily have to do anything with it if you get me.
@get2sammyb
I think I do, and its fair to say some of the non 'pro enhanced' games like ER have fared better than some of the 'pro enhanced' games, but this was in patches.
Sony should really mandate Pro enhancement as MS do with series X/S, at least in my opinion. That said I would think that now devs are able to show all game footage /screenshots running on Pro going forwards (like devs do on PC with RTX 4090 GPUs) should be all the incentive they need!
Will be playing these on Gamepass as I already spend a lot of games but will be picking up a pro for the likes of Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2.
I wish I knew how Ninja Gaiden II Black is enhanced, because it doesn't seem impressive visually or performance wise on my Pro. The 120fps mode is absolutely abysmal looking, and the 60fps mode looks "good", but not great, and has noticeable performance drops that go below the VRR window. Really makes me wonder how it runs on a base PS5.
Looking forward to doom. It's abit dissapointing it seems to have slowed down abit as loved the chaos of doom eternal and the dlc but look pretty damn good
@Stickleman I'm pretty nervous about so much of the combat being contextual, and using one button for so many different functions. Looks a bit like a rhythm or VR game at points. Doom is my favorite thing, so I will probably like it more than most, even if I have some reservations.
I WILL HAVE BOTH!
