Re: Resident Evil Village Is 4K at 60 FPS on PS5, And 900p at 45 FPS on PS4

Batty5

@thefourfoldroot That is funny because I really didn't think 60 FPS made much of a difference until I started playing around with Control. That is the game that really crystalized the difference, I think because it is so easy to switch between 30 and 60 in the options menu, lol. Also, the trauma of trying to play that game on a base PS4 may contribute to my sensitivity.

That said, I played the Village demo with Ray Tracing on and it played fine, I noticed no issues with the frame rate or stutter. Maybe it's because I was too scared of the werewolves running around in the grass, so I was already shuddering.

Re: PS5 Game Boost: All Major PS4 Game Improvements

Batty5

@Shoulderknight Coming from a launch model PS4, all the games I have played that have PS4 Pro enhancements are using the enhancements. The difference in Ark, for example, is extraordinary. Before the Game boost patch for God of War I could choose the PS4 Pro performance or graphics modes. I never played Persona 5 on my base PS4 and do not have Tony Hawk, so cannot speak to your specific examples, however.

Re: Reaction: What Next for PlayStation?

Competition is always good for the market. Sony really built a lead last gen, with Microsoft releasing a stinker of a console out of the box. Microsoft has been playing catch up every since. They looked at what happened and decided they needed 2 things. 1. Power. 2. Exclusives. They spent the rest of the generation getting prepared for this console cycle. Now they have the most powerful console on the market, and have a huge stable of first party developers. They have set themselves up to win a console generation. The only potential problem is that they set themselves up to win the last console generation.

Sony has been a bit more innovative. Sure, they made a more powerful console. It's nipping at the Xbox Series X's heels in performance numbers. But they added a much faster SSD. They also added an innovative controller. And they added a phenomenal 3D audio system. So Sony has not rested on its laurels. It is just taking a different approach to staying on top. Innovation as opposed to pure brute force. That's the approach that Nintendo has been taking for a while. As Nintendo has proven, some times it pays off, some times it doesn't.

However, unlike Nintendo, Sony is not putting all its eggs in the innovation basket. The PS5 is still a beast of a machine. It feels to me like Sony is one step ahead of MS in their approach, but like I said earlier, it's a gamble. Sony needs to make sure their innovations are supported by 3rd party developers to ensure they stay ahead this generation. Microsoft has put itself to win if this generation comes down to just exclusives and performance.

Re: Assassin's Creed Valhalla's Huge February Update Spotted on PlayStation Database, Should Be Out Very Soon

IF the PS5 supported VRR, there would be no noticeable screen tearing for people with TVs that have VRR. It's a software issue, and is most likely due to poor optimization or coding issues, since the game uses dynamic resolution. Going from the PS4 version to the PS5 version, I think the game performs phenomenally.
People need to keep in mind that this is early days in the life of the PS5. Developers are not that familiar with the machine, and games are going to just get better. To say the PS5 is going to have performance difficulties because a cross platform launch title has some screen tearing is absurd.

Re: Mass Effect Legendary Edition Graphics Comparison Shows a Significant Step Forward

Batty5

It's a remastered game, not a remake. So the differences are only going to go so far. However, you can tell that some of the character textures have been redone, not just upscaled. I think the differences are very clear, and favor the new version in every case. But that's like, just my opinion, man.
Going to buy the game. Going to play the game(s). Going to love the game(s). Again.

Re: Control: Ultimate Edition (PS5) - A Great Example of What a PS5 Upgrade Can Offer

Batty5

I bought control on the PS4, base model, and loved it. But the performance got so bad, I stopped playing. Was not going to buy the Ultimate version for the PS5, figured I could live with any performance increase the PS5 gave the original. Then it comes out for free! I don't even mind starting over. It's so much better with stable framerates.

The problem I have is that I keep switching between performance and graphics modes, because the ray tracing is beautiful, but the 60 FPS is so smooth! I can't decide!

Re: God of War PS5 Patch Posts Staggering Results in Comparison Test

Batty5

I never got this on my base PS4. Just got my PS5 weekend before last, so had only barely touched this game before this patch. Now I am sinking some heavy time into it. It's gorgeous. Going from a launch PS4 to a launch PS5 has been a revelation. To think I considered switching back to Xbox this generation. Series X seems like a great machine as well, don't get me wrong. I just am loving the PS5 and what it does for my current gaming library, so many games are improved. And the dualsense is just such a good controller IMO.

Re: Xbox and Nintendo Fans Flocking to PS4, States Study

Batty5

I am a happy Sony convert this generation. I owned the Xbox and the 360, but the PS4 just seems like the better machine this time around. I would never choose Microsoft or Sony over Nintendo, though. I'm always going to have the latest Nintendo console to go with my other one.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of the Sony PlayStation Gamescom 2014 Press Conference?

Batty5

I was excited by Wild and Rime, Hellblade looked cool. Until Dawn, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter looked fun. Tearaway and LBP3 looked like fun games for the kids and for me. I saw a lot of cool games. I was not blown away by anything shown, though. Nothing left me awestruck like the Zelda trailer at this years E3.

Still, I am jubilant at owning a PS4 now, to go along with my Wii U. I get to have the bleeding edge games running on the most powerful home console as well as the surefire fun that Nintendo consoles always provide.

I thought things would be cheerier coming over to this Playstation site after spending years reading the doom and gloom on the Nintendolife comment sections. Sony seems to be winning this generation hands down so far. But there are just as many doom and gloomers here as there are over there. It's amusing. I am just going to sit back and enjoy all the great games I and my family will be getting to play this console generation.
