Re: Unity Software to Cut 1,800 Jobs in Wake of Runtime Fee Fiasco

Capirdbara

Did Unity themselves justify the layoffs based on bad decisions, such as the "installation fee policy revision" debacle, or is it Pushsquare's view on the matter? (Which is fair interpretation, naturally!)
I ask that, because the time lapse since that proposal (september 2023) does not go very very far, only abour 4 months, and I wonder if 4 months would be enough time to such a decision impact Unity's financial structure to the point of making it loose 25% of its workforce to "balance things up" financially, which translates to 1800 jobs (!).
I do sometimes wonder if many of these layoffs, specially in large scale corporations, are not related to the advancements of AI and its capacity of replacing real people in a variety of tasks. Unfortunatelly, that translates in a reduction of production costs, and as it is no secret to anybody, corporations are not philanthropic institutions, and will likely not hesitate in replacing its workforce for a software that can perform similar tasks, but does not require a paycheck

Re: A Plague Tale Dev Signs Up for 'Another Exciting Project'

Very happy for the news. I have a thought that Asobo has as much potential as Remedy in terms of inventing original narratives and developping a solid gameplay system for it. I would be excited for a sequel on APT, but trying something different could be the opportunity for Asobo to develop further their own identity, just as Remedy matured theirs, from my point of view, with Control and Allan Wake 2.

Re: Reminder: It's Your Last Chance to Grab Three Great PS Plus Essential Games

Capirdbara

@Uromastryx
Just finished it through PS Extra. Found it to be very solid, considering the harsh criticism it got at launch. Enjoyed how I would alternate during combat between melee and ranged in interesting ways depending on the scenario I found my self in, which I found well implemented. The game also looks and sounds excellent. Storywise the script is fine, interesting to the point of not being too cliche, but I do found the ending made the game feel incomplete, leaving the player on a "DLC cliffhanger". Other than that, I see it as a solid 8.
Edit: I agree with you. The habit of overcomparing one game to another, which translates later on into frustration, has become too common in this industry currently

Re: Ubisoft's Open World PS5 Star Wars May Not Be in a Galaxy Far, Far Away

Capirdbara

This game completely escaped from my radar, never even heard about it. Is it possible they could have adapted the "Beyond Good and Evil" development progress to this game?
I just found out that the collaboration between Ubisoft and Lucasfilm was announced in january 2021... would 3 years of development be a regular time period for this genre of game?

Re: March 2023 Circana: PS5 Now Trending Ahead of PS4, Best March Ever for a PlayStation

Capirdbara

That's great and all, but it would be nice if we could get off the fence between the previous and the current generation and focus on the current one. After 29 months since the PS5 launch, it still feels personally as if we were sort of hanging in the middle of it.

@get2sammyb
With that Jim Ryan meme, I'm suprised you didn't go with "Super Rayan" for your subheading 😆

Re: Big Discounts for PS Plus Members in New PS Store Sale

Capirdbara

Ghost of Tsushima is a must have for me, but it has also been available on PS+ from the start, so this in particular is not for me.
Alan Wake on the other hand, though... I was considering a physical copy just these days ago, but now I'm tempted to just get the digital...
(It's worth noting tha Plague Tale: Requiem, is also for sale!)

Re: Forspoken Is Leaking All Over the Place Ahead of Next Week's Release

Capirdbara

I've spent over 7 hours on the demo (yes, there's more content on this demo than many other games one can find out there).

At the first hour or two, it was sort of confusing figuring how the magic parkour worked, and how the combat system works, the demo just sorf of throw you out there and leave you to figure it out on your own. But after this initial learning curve (that any other action rpg game have), oh boy, it's very good. The map is vast, full of ups and downs, but you move quickly through it and the parkour system makes it fluid and satisfying. For example, in a game like Breath of the Wild, it would take you a lot of time and patience to traverse the topography that you find in Forspoken. But in Forspoken, the topography was designed to be integrated with the magical parkour, and it was well inplemented.

On the combat side, as any other game, you need some practice to get the hang of it. The thing is, the games actually estimulates you to be fast, to move around, and circle through your different magic types and different abilities. Each ability has its own cooldown, so if you have a fire "magic reel" with 5 abilities and an earth "magic reel" with 6 abilities, you should strategically circle around it during enemy encounters. It is a very well inplemented combat system: it's fun, and you have plenty of room to develop your own style. You can very quickly jump from direct combat to ranged or vice-versa, and it is very fluid.

From my perspective, this game had the unfortunate of becoming the hate target of the turn on the internet, and specially after a general disliked trailer. If you don't like the (over complained) chat with the Cuff during the game, you can easilly set it to none or low on Settings (I personally set it on low, it is very fine, trust me, it will not bother you during your play time). I'm sorry, but those who complained about the chat during the game simply didn't took their time to check the Settings menu.

I have the impression thar people did not give this game a chance, jumped on the demo with prejudgements, played for a short time, and did not went through the learning curve that any action rpg demands, just as much as playing with Yuffie in FF7R or V in Devil May Cry 5 takes time to get in the flow of its combat system.

Don't know how the story will be, and how the final build of the game will perform. But for the little that we get about its combat system in the demo, it is very solid and well designed, and when you get the hang of it, it is as a Devil May Cry game, you dance around the combat.
Don't jump on the hate train, try it for yourself.

Re: Rumour: PS1 JRPG Chrono Cross Really Is Getting a Remaster

Capirdbara

Very glad to hear about his rumour, I hope it becomes true. Might not be the most popular opinion, but I like Chrono Cross better than Chrono Trigger. Chrono Trigger has more of a time travelling "cliche" as its story setting or background, while Chrono Cross has more of a "Schrodinger cat" thing as its matrix. The two different worlds explored in the game coexist as the different outcomes of the same event. No character is the same, their particular story is defined by the network of events forming each different world.
