I have no stars icon when I access the app. I've got about £80 credit just sat there (as I've never redeemed points) which I can't get or even accept the new T&Cs. I sure hope it's a bug and it's sorted soon!
The precept reminds me of Kingdom: Two Crowns, with strategy during the day and more defense combat at night. I think it looks and sounds fantastic. Strategy that's meaningful and engaging without being overly complicated and fluid combat of a non souls variety, all wrapped up in a fascinating world. We know Capcom has a great track record for that sort of atmosphere too (new Onimusha please). I can't wait.
This is doubly distressing. Most significant is, of course, these employees. Absolutely horrible to be told you've lost your job after all your hard work. A situation created by poor decisions made at the top, with the ramifications felt by those who actually put the work in. Then I read they're going to be focussing on sequels and reissues. I'm sure I'm not the only one frustrated with this lazy approach to a creative and engaging entertainment medium.
@bindiana 'souls like' is an instant turn off and/ or disappointment to me too. I think some games use the tag for marketing as it's popular, but it may only have superficial similarities to a souls game. Either way, it's ubiquitousness is annoying.
I think I'll wait for a sale, which is what I did withe first one. It kinda felt something was missing, there was a lack of cohesion with the structure of the campaign, it didn't feel like I'd accomplished much by finishing a race as dozens stretched ahead in front of me. Once I got a hang of the controls it was fun, there was a nice sense of speed and polish. It was so close to being a really good game, but ultimately felt like a bit of a missed opportunity. Seems like this one is the same.
I'll definitely be getting this. The main game is fantastic, addictive and a well balanced challenge - although the platinum is just a bit out of reach for me.
Some absolutely fantastic indie games in this sale. @ajfennell77 I'd say The Medium was good, but not great. if you've played any other games by team bloober (layers of fear, observer, Blair witch etc.), it's more of the same. Simple gameplay, bordering on walking simulator, but with brilliant atmosphere. I didn't find it particularly engaging, but it's their most graphically accomplished game. Their games are never free from frustration, but always have some great moments. Hope that helps
This game deserves the attention it's got. It's incredible, it nails so much; style, gameplay mechanics, pacing and more. I think on first play it seems very difficult, but it can be overcome and it's very rewarding improving and progressing. I don't think it's popularity or success is down to the timing of it's release, it's been well received and it had been in my wishlist for a long time. It's, at least on release, been a popular streaming game too as it's entertaining to watch too.
The game is pretty much perfect, if they changed the protagonist's appearance to anything flashy, it would change the tone of the game. I understand why some people might want it though, a colour editor would be nice. If it was a different character with new content that would be great. If you choose male, maybe the option of them ageing by rapidly losing their hair in their 30s would be more realistic (in my case anyway) lol.
Very good horror game. I just had no connection to the character. Ethan just seemed boring, obviously we didn't need another Wesker or something. I understand they were going for something different, but for me, it really let down the experience. A missed opportunity character wise, I can't really fault the gameplay though.
As you've mentioned, there's a few games out there trying to emanate the anti gravity racing blueprint that is wipeout. Redout is definitely one of the better ones, with a good learning curve and plenty of content, this is definitely one to watch.
I'm going to try the game. If I like it a lot, I might fork out and upgrade it. It is annoying not getting the enhanced version automatically, but it's not a travesty that I have to pay the extra.
@Eadgar Completely agree on Strider. Grossly overlooked metroidvania.
@GravyThief I might be wrong, but I thought it was a Xbox exclusive for that generation, but we got the remastered version for the PS4.
I'd like to have seen an honourable mentions bit, as you say, there are so many. It's a solid and diverse list, but if I'm being mean it almost seems like a list by someone who hasn't delved deep into the genre. It's a starting point for those curious about the genre more than anything else.
I think I'll wait for a sale, I'm more excited about Tormented Souls at the moment. The game seems to be getting a very negative reaction here, to me its just a game that is certainly not for everyone. I've played and enjoyed all Bloober games, but tbh they've all had their frustrating elements. I like slow movement and tank controls for this type of game, but totally understand why people don't, it doesn't make it a bad game.
@UnlimitedSevens there is a limited run games physical release of double dragon neon on PS4 and switch. It's probably hard to get hold of though, as with a lot of their releases.
Truly excellent game. Excellent DLC. You forgot to mention the addition of mania+ difficulty. Which is utterly insane.
I haven't played enough of it to pick a new favourite yet, but if I had to choose, it would be Estel. I like her combos and she's a great character design too.
The majority of games I play are Indies (ignorantly dismissed as 'indie crap' by another commenter). There really is something for everybody with indie games, they have a level of individuality that AAA can't achieve, and for this to be hidden away is so sad. These are small teams of people creating a real vision often with really innovative mechanics, striking art style or unique story telling. It's not fair that they should have all these barriers in their way. It's always frustrating to invariably wait for longer for an indie release when it's on other platforms a lot sooner. Thanks for the article, I hope this gains some traction.
For anyone interested, Razor's edge is actually the second iteration of Ninja Gaiden 3, which was definitely disappointing and weak, razor's edge went a long way to improving the game, but it is still inferior to sigma 2.
@Loki7T1 it only appears as one game/application in the menu bar as the master collection and oddly you have to go to the product in the store to chose which game you want to play and this becomes the default one (there is no in game menu for switching between games). From this I'm confident you can download them individually if required. Hope this helps.
Can anyone confirm if there are trophies for Sigma? They didn't have them originally on the PS3, but they did on the vita version. Either way, I'm really excited about this. Amazing games. I think the artwork and soundtrack mentioned in the review is only with the deluxe version.
I'm so excited for this. Such great games (3 was a little bit disappointing imo). So fast, slick and brutal. If anyone has played the vita versions, that has extra content, it would be nice to see that included, doesn't look like it will be though.

Re: Big Metroidvania Game Afterimage Is Out on PS5, PS4 in April 2023
Definite shades of Bloodstained for me. A game that was good, but not great imo. One to keep an eye on, but not my preferred style.
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Rollerdrome?
Amazing how a small Dev has made 2 of the best games this year! Very impressive. This and Olli Olli World are in my top 5. I'd hope for some dlc.
