Re: Told You So! Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Really Wouldn't Have Worked on PS4

PorkYoself

@GloriosaDaisy optimization, as magical as it may seem, wouldn't make up for the speed this game needs new assets. They could lower the overall quality of assets, preload sections into ram, and lock your actions in some areas to make events more predictable... But how far would they have to go before this "optimized" version of the game is something different entirely.

Re: CD Projekt Exec Suggests Cyberpunk 2077 Launch Not That Bad, Actually, Dunking 'Became a Cool Thing'

PorkYoself

I guess I am the only one that didn't have issues at launch. I saw a ton of glitch compilations, but I only had 1 or two crashes and a few open world style issues with AI pathfinding or bugged quests.

I definitely feel like this is a bit of revisionist history. On the one hand, the launch was received pretty horribly, but on the other hand it was totally cool to hate on the game. People that had no interest in the game or genre were coming out of the woodworks.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Dev Debunks Widespread Rumour of the Game's 'No Man's Sky Style Comeback'

PorkYoself

@deathaxe I am a completionist. I hate seeing quest markers on the map, and I am definitely not the kind to skip story. Your examples are pretty good at explaining why I don't remember a single plot point, they are all over the place. Everything you mentioned sounded like a side quest. Feel free to take that however you want, but I just don't appreciate games that don't appreciate my time. If you enjoy a game that gives you benevolent ghosts and getting drunk for vampires, cool. Gwent was fun.

Re: Random: This Guy Has Five PS5s

PorkYoself

Yeah I just gave up. It was just too frustrating being this close each time. Some days it would be multiple times a day, getting the POS into my cart, at checkout and getting dunked on multiple ways while the thing sold out. First console since the PS2 I didn't get at launch. By the time I can get one, I will prolly not have the free time to play it, so that's neat.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Consistent Crashing Issue Still Not Fixed on PS5, PS4 After Patch 1.05

PorkYoself

@Jimmer-jammer that is almost certainly why you haven't had the issues yet. Most of my crashes have been based around either driving too fast through crowded areas (or places like Jig Jig Street that have a lot of interior spaces). I can also make the game mostly crash on demand by riding the elevator near V's apartment and slamming the right stick to one side, the he drops to about 4 fps and will crash most of the time.

Re: PS5 Stock Drop Leads to Kohl's Cancellations

PorkYoself

@MasterEMFG there is zero risk of over producing. They have produced and sold over 110 million PS4s in 7 years. They would need to pull one hell of a trick to surpass the demand they have right now.

Scarcity is a tool for products like the PS5. There is a reason why they continue to advertise the console that they cannot provide. Sony doesn't mind the $1500 resales because it essentially days "Wow, the PS5 is a great deal at $500". If you were willing to wait a few months to buy a console, now you might reconsider if you happen to see one at Target or in Best Buy.

That is the sole reason I own a first gen switch. The hype and scarcity convinced me into buying it much earlier than I wanted.

Re: Sony Exploring Ways to Store PS5 Games on External SSD

PorkYoself

@TG16_IS_BAE playing PS5 games from an external drive won't happen. The bandwidth just isn't there for USB. The internal storage is highly optimized to make loading near instant, and the expansion NVMe slot requires an even higher speed to compensate for the less optimized setup.

PC games can run off a drive because the USB drives are roughly the same speed as modern hard drives. Devs plan for loading screens and loading rooms where they need to cache more files. With the speed of PS5, the devs are making their games with less loading areas that USB couldn't keep up with.

Re: NBA 2K21 Is the Next Game to Include Unskippable Adverts After Launch

PorkYoself

Even though this is totally scummy, misleading, and downright invasive, I still feel like most people playing 2K won't really care. Sports games are already the least valuable games you can buy:
Same content every year with updated stats and rosters.
Build-a-team modes online require you to gamble real money on packs to be enjoyed.
Little to no resale value on the titles.

If those things don't bother sports gamers, I doubt an ad or two will. Alright back to NHL 21.

Re: Another Indie Dev Suggests Sony's Denying PS Store Sale Requests

PorkYoself

@BAMozzy It is still the publisher's product they are selling. If the publisher feels like a sale would boost their sales and make them more money, Sony should give them the tools to make that happen.

I understand limiting the number of titles on a banner sale like the Summer Sale, too many titles would be hard to navigate and people might give up. But telling a dev that they can't lower the price of their game, for any reason, is just silly. Even during a banner sale, they should be able to control their price, just not get the benefits of being on the store page for that banner.

Sony should maintain the rights to shut down bogus "sales", where the game releases at 60 but is never for sale above 20, or other forms of abuse. But an indie dev wanting to generate buzz for their title should be encouraged, not hindered.

Re: Fans Notice New Patches for PS4 First-Party Games Ahead of PS5

PorkYoself

@JohnnyShoulder it depends how loosely we are using "compatible". Without these patches, I would be wicked surprised if any of these games were not compatible with PS5. As in, you put the disk in and it plays the ps4 version of the game. If we are expanding the term to be "compatible with PS5 enhancements"... That is where I think we are with these patches.

I get this is just semantics, but Sony already has language for this, Boost Mode.

Re: Fans Notice New Patches for PS4 First-Party Games Ahead of PS5

PorkYoself

Considering that only 10 games are omitted from the BC list, I doubt these patches are about making them compatible. More likely they are uncapping frame rates or enabling ps5 features in some way. Could also be the groundwork for a larger patch that will include more substantial ps5 features.

Re: Dev Eager to Fix PS4 Game Not Backwards Compatible with PS5

PorkYoself

@theheadofabroom no kidding. I remember troubleshooting an issue with a config for hours. Line by line, until I eventually came across a value that was supposed to be 0/1 and someone had input 2 and the system didn't have a problem for years. The line of the config was never really used until we updated another component.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 340

PorkYoself

Tony Hawk remake and D&D.

About 40% finished on both THPS games, and it is crazy how good it is. Everything feels like it did years ago, able to hit the same lines on Marseille I was hitting on PS1. Only a few slight hiccups with the game registering grinds instead of wallrides or ollies off of vert instead of up into vert. But otherwise, I couldn't be happier.

Re: Gamer Girl Is an FMV Game All About the Life of a Streamer

PorkYoself

@Matroska there are ways to play games with your girlfriend yknow. Most of the girls I have seen on twitch are stuck up, greedy, and have terrible personalities. At least the ones that seem to be offering this gf experience. Seems like most of the people feeding them money are into the abuse, always wanted to be with the bitchy girl in school.

Re: Xbox Boss Takes More Shots at PS5 Exclusives Saying Fans Won't Be 'Forced' into Next-Gen

PorkYoself

I feel like MS wants people to forget about generations. The series X (still a horrible name) is a letdown to me, just a more powerful XboneX. This generation they are not making any significant changes to the system, so the games will be significantly the same.

This is just damage control. MS wants Halo on every platform possible to make a ton of money. So they will make a game that scales appropriately.

Re: Round Up: Ghost of Tsushima Reviews Are Sharp As a Samurai's Blade

PorkYoself

I am interested to give this game a go. Kinda surprised with the gap between the high and low reviews. Seems like some didn't enjoy the specific open world features and the combat. Maybe it is tied to how many open world games you have played? For instance, someone that has played all of the recent open world titles is burnt out on them, but someone that has been playing other games enjoys the direction they took.

Re: Madden NFL 21 Devs Comment As #FixMaddenFranchise Trends

PorkYoself

@AhmadSumadi I have been playing the NHL series for a while and there is definitely room for improvement. Most people aren't complaining about the simulation as much as they are complaining about the features and gameplay modes.

Franchise mode used to be the marquee game mode, where you can shape the team how you want. They gave you control over so many game systems. But over time the focus shifted to Be A Pro. Shortly after that it focused to Ultimate Team. EA has neutered the other game modes for one reason or another.

Re: Madden NFL 21 Devs Comment As #FixMaddenFranchise Trends

PorkYoself

When I worked at GameStop, I knew all of my regulars that I could expect for major releases. But when Madden dropped, I wouldn't recognize a single one of them picking it up. I would try to pitch reserves to them or pack in something else. I had one guy ask if he could reserve the NEXT Madden on the release day off the current one.

The fan base of Madden buys whatever EA puts out, because they don't care about anything else. The aren't "gamers"*, they play Madden. The ones asking for change are in the minority.

*Not gatekeeping, just using the term loosely.

Re: Talking Point: The Last of Us 2 Spoilers Discussion

PorkYoself

@mrobinson91 the Santa Barbara sections was definitely a little long in the tooth. My wife and I had been playing all day when we finally got the the farm. I was like "sweet, I am gonna roll credits on this tonight". Yeah...

I am glad they didn't try and make Santa Barbara DLC or some hook into a third game. If it was, people would've just complained that it was a retcon to make the ending more meaningful or something. But I blew through the combat, trying to finish the game. Knowing I was right there... I could care less for the Rattlers and whatever BS story they had.

One thing I wish was more clear, was the response from the "Catalina Island Fireflies" real? Or was it just a trap set by the Rattlers? Seemed kinda like a setup to me, the way he ended with "see you soon Abby from Salt Lake" or whatever, sounded kinda sarcastic and smarmy.

Re: Talking Point: The Last of Us 2 Spoilers Discussion

PorkYoself

@roe I am not sure what the problem is with Abby not knowing Ellie. We see how Abby heard Marlene talk about Joel. We see the Salt Lake crew talk about how they found Tommy. Did you expect something similar for Ellie? As far as I can tell, she knew exactly who Ellie was. Abby wanted revenge for what Joel did, not Ellie (until the end of Seattle).

Joel and Tommy are trying to grow Jackson. They are actively trading with people passing through town, living a relatively safe life for the past 4 years. Yeah, they would've handled the situation differently in the past, but people change. People become complacent when comfortable.

There are certain elements that will away either way, depending on how you view the game, you love it or you hate it. If you are looking for things to complain about, you will find them. But of all the things to complain about, your issues seem like small potatoes.

I wanted Abby and Ellie to walk away from the last fight. I wanted them both to survive. That accomplishment far outweighs the fact the PSVita has an internal battery and likely needs to replaced long before 2039.

Re: Talking Point: The Last of Us 2 Spoilers Discussion

PorkYoself

To anyone that is hung up on how Joel was treated in this game, try and view the story a different way. What if you hadn't played TLOU? What if you started the game as Abby, in the flashback, running through the hospital to find your dead dad? Play through her story and see how she has devoted her life to finding the man that killed her father. The man that stole the vaccine from the world for selfish reasons.

7 years ago I felt the same way about Joel's choice. The ending of TLOU is what it is, and it is uncomfortable as hell. TLOU2 continues that in a true way, making you uncomfortable as hell.

The thing I felt the most, is that you can read all you want, and form whatever opinions you would like, until you have played it and experienced the story yourself, it is not a very valuable opinion.

Seattle Day 3 I was ready to kill Abby. I was pissed off that we were taking Dina back to Jackson. I hated how they tried to humanize Abby, making jokes with her friends, showing us how they were providing for their community... And then by the time you see the effects of her revenge start to toll on her friends. The people she has hurt and neglected to satisfy her anger... You see the mirrored perspective of her and Ellie. They are both blinded by hatred from actions that were caused by someone else.

By the end, they both had come to terms with their situation. Both Ellie and Abby had lost everyone around them in their pursuit of revenge. Ellie lost just a bit more, by losing Dina and JJ.

Re: Of Course The Last of Us 2 Is Being Review Bombed

PorkYoself

@Nem
"People" are unsatisfied for whatever reason they want, that doesn't mean their opinions should hold any weight.

Disliking something from a game is fine, but if you haven't gone through the process of playing it, your point of view is useless. Reviews are to help people understand if they should buy a game or not, and if you haven't bought the game you are in the same boat as the person seeking those reviews, only you have an agenda to sell.

Just a word of advice, PushSquare seems to be doing just fine with this article. Don't expect them to take it down anytime soon.
