I define "Writing" in games as the whole experience. Like a good playwright writes a live experience, a good game writer will do the same for the player. Every element in a game needs to support an artist vision.
Kojima, Ueda, Miyazaki, Yoko Taro, Takahashi, Team Silent back in the day, are all great examples.
My hot take, the first game in the series is one of the best RPGs I've played. Very well crafted! The story is surprisingly complex, and all the gameplay systems link together in a really satisfying loop.
Ryza 2 lost the complex story, and the gameplay is a tad off the rails, but all the characters are fun to hang around, and the graphics are still pretty.
The end fight was not cool. It was cheap and felt easy for him. Why wasn't there a John Wick style fight, or something like The Raid. A desperate struggle against the world trying to take away your most precious thing. That fight needed to be painful for everyone! 20mins, no edits, utter massacre.
I think trophies can be part of the artistic experience of games and should be judged as such.
My favorite trophy ever was for God of War Chains of Olympus: "All Beam Walks Completed" There is only one beam in the game, right at the beginning. It is a hilarious joke.
I love trophies, but it's important to always have insight if you are having fun or not. Video games have gotten more and more manipulative over the years, so always reassessing your reasons for playing something is a great practice for modern gamers.
@Denni5m agreed! I felt the same way. Prey is shockingly complex. They made a working space station. You could take it out of the game, plop it in space and it would function. DL feels like half a game in comparison. The 4 maps feel more like multiplayer maps.
Yes! Fatal Frame games are incredible! Playing Fatal Frame 2 should be required at schools. It's brilliant, and every FF game after uses the established formula with great success.
Have you noticed that some games are available for the ps5 ps now and not the ps4 version, and vise versa? Only one Atelier game is on the ps5, there are 4 or 5 of them on the ps4 ps now. Also, all the versions of DOA5 (with each trophy list) are on the PS5, only one version is on the ps4. There might be more examples. Weird????
Stories are very powerful, and the erasure of women from history has been extremely damaging. Something like WW2 affected and still affects all of humanity, so all WW2 stories, especially those that are rarely told, are historically valid and important to tell. So great job DICE!
However, it can be dangerous to rewrite history for our own benefit. You can also look at these BF5 images, at least the multiplayer, as an erasure of the Allies' sins. Inaccurately portraying the Allied armies as inclusive and egalitarian might be just as dangerous. Easy example, the US Army segregated soldiers based on their "race." This is very important history to remember.
I guess I'm saying it's dangerous to treat WW2 like Star Wars.
But honestly, I'm really excited for this game, yay the hypocrisy of life!!!

Re: How to Pre-Order PS5's 30th Anniversary Collection
Love how this anniversary edition made the PS5 Pro now look like crap. Spend $770 and still be disappointed.
Re: How to Pre-Order PS5's 30th Anniversary Collection
@Hordak I'm in the same situation.
Re: Surprise Final Fantasy 7 Remake Patch Changes the Ending
Well she has a good point. In that world, bad stuff comes from above: Sector 7, Meteor, Sephiroth.
Re: LISA: Definitive Edition Removes and Changes Content to Release on PS5, PS4
Corporations love censorship. Sony's is extra troubling since it feels random.
Re: Get These Excellent New PSN Avatars for Free
I know art is subjective and all, but these are objectively terrible.

Re: Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse Snaps a Spooky Story Trailer
@extragood You can play them in any order. They are only loosely connected.
Maiden of the Black water is a good place to start.
IMAO Fatal Frame 2 is incredible. I think it should be taught in schools. But it's only been released on old systems, Xbox/PS2.
Re: Surreal Horror Game The Dark World: Karma Will Make You Question Everything on PS5, PS4

Re: You'll Need to Die in Dozens of Different Ways for The Callisto Protocol's Grisly PS5, PS4 Platinum
I was super excited for this game, but then I saw that he has force powers for some reason? Kinda broke it for me, ruins the horror.
Re: Slay Together in Grim Guardians: Demon Purge, a Co-Op Castlevania-Like
Dream game!
Also, I think those are the sisters from Gun Gal.
Re: Final PS Now Game Lineup Revealed, Leaves Much to Be Desired
Blasphemous is great. The writing is top notch. Good writing is the secret sauce to a successful souls clone.
Re: Cult PS4 Sequel Gravity Rush 2 Celebrates Its Fifth Birthday Today
I love everything about these games. Kat's the greatest socialist super hero of our times! Gravity Inversion = Class Inversion!

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Deathloop?
If you enjoyed this game, play Prey if you haven't. Prey is incredible. It's so strange to me this game is getting a ton of praise and Prey didn't.

Re: Gravity Rush Character Designer the Latest Departure from Sony's Japan Studio
GRAVITY RUSH!!! I love those games. 2 of my all time favorites. Hope he joins Bokeh. I'm surprised he hasn't already.

Re: Hands On: Peter Parker's Gameplay Is a Massive Departure in Marvel's Spider-Man on PS4
Seems like the Dan Slott comics are a big influence on this game.
