@Markatron84 yup, it's a slight variation of the whole "it's not FORCED overtime" excuse they used for years. You don't HAVE to say yes...but everyone else will, you'll fall behind/have your commitment questioned and be replaced
@nomither6 at this point, it's not a matter of want, it's a matter of logistics. Obviously live-service games CAN be successful, millions of people play them every day. But, there are only so many players and so many hours in the day, and every one of these "Gaas" games want/require hours of your time every day. Anyone with common sense should've been able to figure out that it would be logistically impossible to support even 5 new live service games, let alone the dozen they initially bragged about.
That's part of why so many people rolled their eyes at Jim Ryan's live service push and are now celebrating its demise, because it was doomed to fail from it's very conception and everyone who actually plays games could see that
My opinion is the same now as it was then. ND more than likely just wanted to make an updated Factions as part of 2's PC port but Jim Ryan mandated they turn it into a full live-service game. They did what they had to until Jimmy boy announced his "retirement," then got the reality check from Bungie that they'd have to effectively become a live service developer to make it work so the higher-ups at ND and/or Herman Hulst came to the correct decision it would be a massive missallocation of their talent and scrapped it. Timeline of the announcement makes it obvious
