@IslandLogic - I personally don't believe it is a liberal agenda at all. I see it far too often that when a game drops with a black lead character, the comments immediately start about agenda's, and accusations of 'wokeness'. These type of comments often thinly hide racist leanings.
Holy f*ck (I'm down with casual swearing!) - why is it every time a game comes out with a black lead, people start saying that it is part of a forced agenda?
If it is part of an agenda, it's to be more inclusive & have games reflect the multicultural societies we live in.
Have to agree with some of the comments about cinematic gaming - I have started to really wonder whether games are going in the wrong direction. Even GoW Ragnarok (excellent as it is) often feels like your input is fairly secondary to the story.
Looking at it from a different angle, the fake bidders on eBay are also hurting genuine sellers - not just scalpers. I pre-ordered 2 PS5s to help my chances of getting one & ended up getting them both. I wasn't going to cancel one in case the other fell through due to limited stock some retailers had.
So with both in hand I thought I'd put one on eBay, starting at retail price - only to have stupidly high bids at the end of the auction, and a buyer (funnily enough with 250+ positive feedback) who wouldn't pay or respond to any messages. I had explained in my description the reason I was selling, did not ask for a huge markup & yet eBay vigilantes decided to protect the world from my outrageous attempt to sell something I didn't need.
I know a lot of people will have no sympathy with people like me who are not scalpers, and do have a genuine reason for having a spare - but just blindly denying others from buying by placing false bids is irritating as **** too!
What is it with some gamers, it seems like the comments on just about any article on gaming ends up with at least a couple of arguments!! I thought gaming was a relaxing past time, but it just seems to wind people up!! 😔
I'm concerned mainly with the news that there is no Atmos support. I'm sure the in house spatial sound will be great for games, but unless it can support some form of Atmos type functionality for 4K blu rays, it's a big miss for me.
There's a lot of flaming at the moment because no one really knows what the score will be, and the wait is nearly over. That will die down when people start actually playing their chosen system I imagine, and probably get replaced by endless side-by-side videos and screenies trying to prove one system plays a game better than the other - while most regular people will squint and try to see if there's any difference!
@iamtylerdurden1 - Exactly, I was only mentioning the power issue to try and say there will be no real difference between the two. I get frustrated by the fanboy arguments as we all do - it's a bit like the PC benchmark crowd, having slightly higher numbers seems to make them feel better about themselves! 😄
@NEStalgia - good question! From memory it was a Tomb Raider and maybe an Assassin's Creed, but damned if I can remember which ones. I think you're right about the native resolution issue - it is debatable that it makes any noticeable difference visually & it may even be preferable to run in checkerboard to aid performance.
@NEStalgia that's a matter of opinion. I have both machines and borrowed some games from friends to try just this, and could hardly ever tell a difference - in fact the occasional game would it seem to run a bit better on PS4 - but virtually unnoticeable in real world gaming.
@Menchi I agree they probably wouldn't want the fact that some of its specs aren't on par with the Xbox, but I doubt many consumers really care that much. Plus the whole argument around specs between Xbox and PlayStation 'fans' is a bit ridiculous anyway. Look at the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro - the X had a similar advantage, but short of squinting your eyes at side by side screenshots, when could you actually tell any difference? Pretty much never.
@NEStalgia Ah, I see. In the UK the pricing of TVs is similar to Samsung/LG models, so I guess it may well be market based. I went with Samsung's QE65Q95T in the latest generation as I'm paranoid about screen burn (I do have a habit of leaving things on pause on the TV), and the QLEDs seemed a good compromise for the PS5/general viewing. This was on par price wise with the Sony's over here.
I had a couple of Sony AVRs when I was getting into home theater, and was generally pleased (admittedly when the bug caught I ended up buying an Arcam AVR550, but still look back on the Sony's fondly).
On the PS5 design, I quite like it - but will be hoping there is an option coming to swap the white side panels out. It is just a console after all - if I want statement pieces to display I'll get them in a homeware store!
@NEStalgia I don't necessarily agree with your point about Sony always being the overpriced option compared to other brands. Their TVs are usually really well reviewed, but they are on a par price wise with the likes of Samsung & LG. They make one of the best reviewed 'budget' av receivers (STR-DN1080), Their noise cancelling headphones are in a similar price bracket as Bose, Bowers & Wilkins, etc & compare very well against them.
@Porkfiend I don't agree that there's no point in comparing headline prices because you can get discounts in the store - you can get discounts on physical copies too after all.
I feel your pain about having to open a case and press eject on your console though, it's a travesty we are still expected to move in this day and age!!
@Kefka2589 Exactly. Not quite as good a deal, but I bought Ghost of Tsushima for £50, and traded it in to GAME (ex Electronics Boutique) for £27 when finished. Crazy to pay £55 from the PS store when it effectively cost me just £23 to play the physical version!
I don't get it. I thought Ghost of Tsushima was a good game, but had a fair few visual glitches, the story was quite a basic tale of revenge and didn't really flow that well in my opinion (the frequent interruptions to start a new tale was overdone), and the only character I thought was well written was Khotun Khan.
That sounds really negative, but I did enjoy the game too - I just don't think it is the classic people are making out.
Pretty much 100% physical disks for new games here. I still find the PS Store about £10 more than buying the physical disk online, plus you can usually sell it for around £20 depending on the game.
I don't think any/many of us have a problem with people buying extra consoles for the kids, etc. It's the people who want to buy multiples purely for profiteering that are being tw4ts.

Re: Sony Throws EA's Battlefield Under the Bus to Make a Point on Call of Duty
Amazing how news of a video game company being bought up leads to comments on WW2 and private corporate armies. 🤣
Re: Assassin's Creed Valhalla Update 1.1.0 Out Tomorrow on PS5, PS4, Adds Yule Festival Support, Fixes Loads of Bugs
I usually really like AC games, but really finding this one a bit of a grind. The writing is poor, and I'm finding the settings very bland.
Re: Poll: Is the PS5 DualSense Sony's Best Controller Yet?
It's an amazing controller. I never imagined a gamepad could draw you more into a game, but this is a game changer.

It's quite nice to have a gaming article about the upcoming consoles that hasn't descended into a flaming war!
Re: Star Wars: Squadrons - This Might Not Be the Game You're Looking For
I'm finding the game crashes on my PS4 Pro. Only played the first two missions and it's crashed (frozen screen) in both. Anyone else?
Re: More PS5 Photos Emerge from Japanese Previews
@iamtylerdurden1 Indeed. My biggest issue with the PS5 is where am I going to put it! 😂

Re: PS5 Fan Noise First Impressions Are Promising
@Falkirk4life to be fair, it doesn't really make any difference to the fan noise, although it is good practice to keep it clean.

This is really good news, one of the things I was most concerned with.

@Netret0120 hopefully you need a couple for the family
Re: PS5 Pre-Orders Look Like They'll Be Restricted to One Per Person
Good. I'd much rather as many as possible get one, and anything that makes it harder for scalpers is to be commended.
