I came to really enjoy BF2042 and then the PS5 player count dropped off a cliff and I can barely get a game without turning on PC-included cross-play.
I also find the emphasis on a return to a "modern day" setting strange: 2042 is only 18 years away. It's not exactly like there'll be a huge difference in the weapons and vehicles in the game.
My partner and I really liked this game but fell off after it left its open beta. I imagine a lot of people did the same. It should have been a paid game and included local co-op from the off and I think it would have been a lot more financially successful.
@Kenobi42 I don't feel game prices drop as quickly or as much as they used to anymore. It feels like you have to wait at least three years to see any serious discounts. I see a lot of posts about waiting for SW Outlaws to drop in price, but with Star Wars being a Disney license I can see it staying full price or almost full price for a long while.
I play board games and got into Star Wars Shatterpoint recently. The starter set is £120+ and it can be £40+ for three additional miniatures, so £70 for a new videogame doesn't seem that bad in comparison, especially if I get a few months out of a game. The time it takes to develop a AAA game has grown so costs are always going to increase for those, and that's probably fair. However, charging for just a few days early access is knowingly predatory from publishers, especially with the common practice of having a day one patch.
@Enigk agree with pretty much everything you’ve said there. I haven’t really dived into books and comics though. Any recommendations for places to start?
@Enigk Andor and The Bad Batch might be some of the best Star Wars ever, and they’re both recent Disney shows. I think it’s less the quality and more that Star Wars is in such a messy place because it means so many different things to different people. To some it’s just the OG, others prefer the prequel trilogy, some say animated Star Wars is the best, many think Legends was better, sometimes it’s too childish, other times too serious. Considering it’s almost 50 years old now, it’s no surprise people don’t align on what it is and should be. It’s better just to pick and choose the bits that appeal to you and leave the rest.
I really love Star Wars, I enjoy open world games, and I find Ubisoft games straightforward forward, comforting and fun – but I still haven’t bought Outlaws yet. I didn’t even feel like I would be missing out by not pre-ordering or buying day one. Not sure exactly what the problem is, but if someone like me doesn’t have FOMO, it can’t be good for players that aren’t the exact target audience.
I’m surprised that a game that’s biggest selling point is it being a smuggler fantasy didn’t have a character creator. Seems like that would have been a home run for a game like this. Even some basic hair options would be nice.
I properly love the art style in the trailer. Had this been a single player, campaign-driven game it would likely have been a launch day purchase for me. Even if I wanted to, I'm never going to be able to commit to a grindy live-service title as I have kids and it feels like a total waste to spend the little personal free time I have on something with no defined ending and no story to tell.
Not sure what a PS5 Pro offers when we’re half way through a generation that hasn’t let go of the last one. It might have much better tech inside, but the games it can play will still be limited by what the devs are doing to cater to the PS4.
I loved – loved – the base game, but so far I’ve yet to really enjoy the DLC. Is doesn’t feel like there’s much new on offer for people who run INT builds, the map feels very empty, the dungeons feel repetitive, and it doesn’t feel as if there’s as much nuance in the bosses as past FS games. I’m sure I’ll finish it, but I’m hoping FS go back to non-open world games that don’t rely on so many recycled assets.
@add286 it's undoubtedly a great game and I really loved it, but the fatigue will start to hit you 65+ hours in when you reach Nibelheim and take on the protorelic missions.
After that, you still have to go back to the Golden Saucer, the Temple of Ancients, and the Forgotten Capital. The last two feel like some of the longest chapters in the whole game.
As a kid playing this game, I would run around Tatooine with no idea what to do while the NPCs yelled “No good killer!” and that’s about all I remember about it.
I get his point. Videogames are expensive, but even short games can end up being more cost-effective than many other gaming formats such as boardgames (which might only get played a handful of times) or miniature games (which are expensive before you even consider the paints, tools, friends etc. you need). Even other activities give you less "entertainment time" than video games: my local Odeon charges £15+ a ticket for a movie, and it feels impossible to get a takeway meal for two for less than £40 these days. Both of those will last a single evening. I fully believe that videogames offer excellent value for money, however, whenever someone at this corportate level starts putting these comments out there, it just feels like an impending cynical price hike.
It's pretty great, but the relic points are a little annoying as the main indicator you're getting near to one is sound, which isn't great if you have poor hearing, and I wish there was more of a visual cue. Maybe I'm missing something, but at least the drop points have a smoke signal.

Re: Documentary Details the Creation of PS5's Critically Acclaimed Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
@Korgon Funny how these things work, as I thought Cosmo Canyon was a pleasant reprieve from navigating Gongaga, which felt like my own personal hell.

All those features sound great, but I think right now I’d rather just have a disc drive that consistently recognises discs.

I only have the discount available for the remaining days on my subscription. Full price after that.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty?
@Ricky197344 the idea with all the endings is that there is no happy ending for anyone in night city. I think the new ending stays true to that.
