Re: Cost of Fixing Cyberpunk 2077 Irrelevant, Says CD Projekt RED

jiffymalaise

Weighing in on this...I'm playing on a base, day 1 PS4 console, with a digital edition installed on my hard drive.

Yes, the frame rate and hitching is noticeable, yes, I've found the odd pedestrian that's stuck in a T pose. Yes, a soldier from the hotel bounced around the elevator like a power ball when Jackie and I rode it down during the heist. Since Friday night's patch I've had no more crashes, although I have found if I go to photo mode whilst on a vehicle when I return to gameplay the accelerator is stuck on, but that's okay as I'm now riding around like Kaneda in Akira on my new bike looking like a boss.

But it just doesn't matter. The fiction is strong, the city is one of the densest, but most logically thought out spaces I've ever played in, even more so now I am starting to unlock more traversal options. Every encounter is a new toybox to play around with. I started using silenced pistols and rifles, but now I stalk through the CCTV system short circuiting enemies before going loud to mop up the stragglers. Its utterly compelling.

I know some are disappointed, some are furious - but for a PS4 with an old machine, its still brilliantly thrilling gaming, with a rich story, excellent set pieces, great characters great atmosphere and so much replay ability.

Maybe if people stopped getting themselves so hyped, so filled with expectation and a need for perfection, they could see past the blemishes to the sleazy, imperfect, bullet riddled but tasty cybercake that lies within, and knowing CD Project Red will work to fix these issues will only see the performance improve until I can find a PS5 (please Lord)...

Anyhoooo...back to Merc'ing Maelstrom!

Re: Poll: What Is Your PS5 and PS4 Game of the Year 2020?

jiffymalaise

Cyberpunk 2077 (on my base ps4), I know everyone is riding the hate train to StronglyWordedLetterville, but I'm having blast, the last patch stopped all of the crashes and if I drive niiiiice and slow I can hardly notice the pop in. Its FAR from perfect, but my goodness has its fiction drawn me in. Utterly addicted.

Re: Poll: Did You Get a PS5?

@Unlucky13 I know how you feel... Genuinely gutted. I'm a lifelong Playstation fan, and this is the first time I've never had a console on launch day. Tried so hard. 😢

Re: Game of the Decade: Journey Proved Once and for All That Games Can Be So Much More

I'm a Games lecturer in both FE and HE and I agree with this decision. Journey rightly sits in the Smithsonian's archive as a truly important cultural artifact. I teach it in my class, and use it to discuss the role of the videogame auteur and narratology and its one of the very best games for getting students to engage in semiotic analysis. I have also played the game through about thirty times, and the crisis on the mountain top still gives me the shivers and makes my eyes go all glassy every time... excellent choice.

Horizon chase turbo is one of the best 'modern retro' games I've played in years (bought it on my switch months ago) ... Pitch perfect handling, brilliant visuals and so much to do - I promise you this is well worth a Download. As for Pes... Utterly meh... #mixedbag

Re: Poll: What Are Your Thoughts on Dreams Early Access?

jiffymalaise

Loving this so far... Incredibly impressed and whilst I have yet to get my head around logic and how to make vehicles work (my raft shuddered apart when dropping it into my world) along with creating water a character can swim on (tips welcome!) I love the fact its a tool that feels like a toy. Looking forward to getting skill up and releasing a full game! Ps: Snacks on a train for the win!

Re: Soapbox: I Didn't Get a Dreams Beta Code, and I'm Fine with That

jiffymalaise

Still not had my code. Double and triple checked I did everything right. Signed up the minute the beta opened to the public. Have followed media molecule and Dreams since the beginning and have shown off dreams footage to my games design students for two years in our lessons in visual coding and game design modules. The gaping chasm of disappointment that has lived inside me since the 18th Dec and missing out on the closed beta just keeps getting bigger and bigger... At least the NDA means I can't see any of the awesome stuff being created. Mega sad sigh....

The comfy comfort of Skyrim will always place it at the top of the list personally, but for sheer quality overall, The Witcher: Wild Hunt is a photo finish second
