Weighing in on this...I'm playing on a base, day 1 PS4 console, with a digital edition installed on my hard drive.
Yes, the frame rate and hitching is noticeable, yes, I've found the odd pedestrian that's stuck in a T pose. Yes, a soldier from the hotel bounced around the elevator like a power ball when Jackie and I rode it down during the heist. Since Friday night's patch I've had no more crashes, although I have found if I go to photo mode whilst on a vehicle when I return to gameplay the accelerator is stuck on, but that's okay as I'm now riding around like Kaneda in Akira on my new bike looking like a boss.
But it just doesn't matter. The fiction is strong, the city is one of the densest, but most logically thought out spaces I've ever played in, even more so now I am starting to unlock more traversal options. Every encounter is a new toybox to play around with. I started using silenced pistols and rifles, but now I stalk through the CCTV system short circuiting enemies before going loud to mop up the stragglers. Its utterly compelling.
I know some are disappointed, some are furious - but for a PS4 with an old machine, its still brilliantly thrilling gaming, with a rich story, excellent set pieces, great characters great atmosphere and so much replay ability.
Maybe if people stopped getting themselves so hyped, so filled with expectation and a need for perfection, they could see past the blemishes to the sleazy, imperfect, bullet riddled but tasty cybercake that lies within, and knowing CD Project Red will work to fix these issues will only see the performance improve until I can find a PS5 (please Lord)...
Cyberpunk 2077 (on my base ps4), I know everyone is riding the hate train to StronglyWordedLetterville, but I'm having blast, the last patch stopped all of the crashes and if I drive niiiiice and slow I can hardly notice the pop in. Its FAR from perfect, but my goodness has its fiction drawn me in. Utterly addicted.
@Unlucky13 I know how you feel... Genuinely gutted. I'm a lifelong Playstation fan, and this is the first time I've never had a console on launch day. Tried so hard. 😢
Cant wait. The demo was awesome and i look forward to day one play (well day two, it'll take a few hours to download!) Bring. It. On! #billionaireplayboyphilanthropist
Just noticed on the image, it says Earth Defence ForceS 6... Could this mean some squad control at all, or is this just the name of the game in Japan? Hmmm....would totally be up for a little quick move between characters on the field!
Going for a bit of a left field answer here, but Jett, The Far Shore gave me all sorts of Instellar tingles... Oh and Ghostwire and Ratchet and Clank look awesome too. Couldnt be happier with the reveal - Sony done good this time.
I teach games design at FE and HE level, so i'm always stoked when I get games that I won't personally play, but are useful for analysis and discussion (and don't come out of my yearly software budget). Will never play farming simulator, but have been intrigued by Cities for a while now - so a perfectly acceptable mixed bag of goodies.
I'm a Games lecturer in both FE and HE and I agree with this decision. Journey rightly sits in the Smithsonian's archive as a truly important cultural artifact. I teach it in my class, and use it to discuss the role of the videogame auteur and narratology and its one of the very best games for getting students to engage in semiotic analysis. I have also played the game through about thirty times, and the crisis on the mountain top still gives me the shivers and makes my eyes go all glassy every time... excellent choice.
Yep, already asked my family for nothing but money towards a PS5 for Christmas and my birthday in February...so no presents for a year but it will be worth it in the end...
@Ristar24 Yeah, i have the same issue, I'm on an original launch PS4 with PSVR. Some planets are so bad i'm out of my ship and floating before the jet engine in my ps4 can render it in!*
Still though, freaking No Man's Sky - I bloomin' love this game. Its the game i always dreamed of owning as a kid. VR is just the icing on the cake.
@FullbringIchigo - Couldn't agree more. Its not about blind acceptance of everything that is read online, just a mature attitude when responding to stuff that doesn't tie in with the individuals own opinions.
We seem to have collectively lost that in recent years. A shame
Nice one Quintumply! What a nasty little troll... I just don't understand how people can get so staggeringly unpleasant over a simple opinion piece on an independent news site. I love this community, so its a shame when douchebags force their way in with abusive language and attitudes. #banhammertime!
Horizon chase turbo is one of the best 'modern retro' games I've played in years (bought it on my switch months ago) ... Pitch perfect handling, brilliant visuals and so much to do - I promise you this is well worth a Download. As for Pes... Utterly meh... #mixedbag
Loving this so far... Incredibly impressed and whilst I have yet to get my head around logic and how to make vehicles work (my raft shuddered apart when dropping it into my world) along with creating water a character can swim on (tips welcome!) I love the fact its a tool that feels like a toy. Looking forward to getting skill up and releasing a full game! Ps: Snacks on a train for the win!
It's excellent so far... Talking my time with the tutorials and using two move controllers as my default controller choice. Loving every second, even if my first creation is a mutated potato called Ryan Chips... Practice makes perfect!
Still not had my code. Double and triple checked I did everything right. Signed up the minute the beta opened to the public. Have followed media molecule and Dreams since the beginning and have shown off dreams footage to my games design students for two years in our lessons in visual coding and game design modules. The gaping chasm of disappointment that has lived inside me since the 18th Dec and missing out on the closed beta just keeps getting bigger and bigger... At least the NDA means I can't see any of the awesome stuff being created. Mega sad sigh....
If I had any money, it would be arching its way towards the screen right now. Loved the games on their first release, fully intend to play this in VR. #SOLD
The comfy comfort of Skyrim will always place it at the top of the list personally, but for sheer quality overall, The Witcher: Wild Hunt is a photo finish second

Re: Soapbox: I'm Really Enjoying Cyberpunk 2077
54 hours in on my base ps4, 6 crashes, mostly before the 1.04 patch last weekend. Totally hooked, love it to peices. 👍

Yep, totally agree... The witcher 3 is damn near the perfect videogame. Great article - beautifully written too.
