@Green-Bandit The only reason Destiny was successful, was because of how hyped they were as a company with the success of Halo. Sony fans had to deal for years with talk about how good Halo was and never got to play it. So when Bungie left MS to make Destiny everyone jumped on to give it a try.
Destiny at it's core is just a reskinned Halo. The gunplay is exactly the same. Bungie took everything they were experimenting with on a gameplay level (as far as movements, and power ups, etc) in halo 3 and refined it. Breaking it up into 3 different character classes, etc. and adding on an additional layer of loot RPG by having weapons roll with random perks.
They also went super hard on the co-op aspect of the game with raids and dungeons.
The community can complain about scrapping the game and starting fresh, but nobody was happy about losing all their favorite gear & loot when the jump to destiny 2 happened.
At the same time, you can only chase the same damn weapons X amount of times before it becomes boring. Bungie sunsets and takes gear away, only to give it back and make players grind for it all over again several months, a year or so later, with an updated perk list.
Bungie tried fixed perks on weapons when Destiny 2 first launched, and that went over horribly with the community.
Add in the fact that the seasonal activities are merely repackaged events that generally use the same basic mechanics.
Also the fact that the actually multiplayer PvP mode, hasn't seen any significant changes or new maps in years. It's just a complete mess.
There really is no easy fix for the game, and i doubt Bungie is keep on getting away from the seasonal model.
The US government won't stop this. This kind of deal wouldn't create a monopoly. As MS is a 1st party developer. They created the hardware, Activision/Blizzard is a 3rd party publisher game developer. They don't have a leg in the hardware race to begin with.
Honestly it didn't stop Disney from buying Marvel, Lucas Film or Fox and beefing up their catalog
If MS was trying to Buy Valve it would be a different story IMO.
Also from what I've read, MS still won't be the market leader if this deal goes through. They would still be number 3 behind Tencent & Sony based on revenue.
I'm a gamer and not a fanboy. Have a series X, PS5 and a decent gaming PC.
Sony has really only been good for thier 1st party games and handful of single player exclusives each gen, sinces the PS3. They've gone the way of Nintendo. Yes, they are making a big push on VR, but Sony track record of commitment is spotty. Just look at the Vita and PSP.
If you play MP games, Xbox has been the go to eco system for those games and those types of games dominate the industry.
If Sony really wants to change the narrative, they need to start investing in more than just single player story driven games. God of War, Horizon, Dark Souls isn't going to cut it. They have no flagship fps or even 3rd person fps, since they scrapped Socom. And thier flagship racing game is leagues behind what is currently offered on Xbox with the Forza series.
If this deal goes through, MS pretty much cornered the market on the majority of western/NA manufactured content.
Sony and Nintendo are good are selling games from Asian & EU content makers.
What MS mostly payed for was veteran talent and studios. Putting a studio together from scratch and attracting established talent doesn't always pan out and can take a long time. Just look at 343 industries to take over Halo after Bungie.
MS buying Activision/Blizzard solves this. Even if they really only have a handful of active IPs and franchises.
They get over 1/2 a dozen studios that are currently working on COD alone.
I think most people agree that if MS trims that down to only 1-2 permanent developers and get away from a yearly release, the industry would be better for it. Nobody likes paying $60 for an annualized game that's essentially cut and paste. Gamepass is worth it.
The remaining studios could be repurposed for other projects.
There are so many other possibilities with thier other franchises as well. A console port of WoW being put on gamepass will sell. Reviving scrapped projects like StarCraft Ghost, etc. There are a lot of possibilities for MS to capitalize on.
What Sony really needs to do though is rethink thier strategy. Because they've been so anti consumer lately, it's going to drive gamers to Xbox & gamepass.
They can't keep up with PS5 production, yet pushing PS4 sales, when Sony has already said gamers won't get free PS5 game upgrades, isn't going to fly with gamers in the long run. Getting double dipped on games and paying a markup for ps5 games to boot.
This seems to do more with the fact that past gen games can't really tap into full benefit of the ps5 hardware the way Xbox games are.
Sony has forced developers to rerelease the game in the Ps5 format if they really want take advantage of the new hardware with new trophies, etc.
I fully expect to see a lot of backlash from gamers down the line, accusing developers or favoring Xbox over PS, because in reality, it's going to take resources to get older games up to par on the newer hardware, resources and money that game developers just simply don't waste.
It's a big difference between deploying a patch for older games to take advantage of the new hardware on Xbox, vs having to recertify the game code for a whole new release on the ps5.
I'm just curious how PS4 games will work if you're upgrading to a PS5? Will players need to reload their games onto the PS5, or can we simply install them on an external drive with the PS4, unplug the hard drive from the ps4 and then hook the external hard drive up to the PS5 to play our games?
As someone who has logged 100+ hrs into the original game. I was really turned off to the fact that the game is being split up in episodic content (and still am). Swore I wouldn't buy it.
But after playing the demo a few days ago and really enjoying it, and also reading spoilers on the ending. I'm actually very intrigued in playing this version.
Now if only i can track down a copy of the deluxe version of the game at a reasonable price 🤔😢
Sony and PSN have been notorious over the years for being very lax in it's cheat detection, and players manipulating the systems. I've always avoided playing MP at all on PSN, because cheating felt more rampant. MS does a much better with cheat detection on XBL.
The issue with PC cheating though, is that it's not implemented at the service level, the way XBL and PSN are/should be doing it. The issue falls entirely on the devs to handle in game with PC, as I'm not away of battle.net offering the same kinds of anti cheat detection, the way XBL & PSN do.
I don't think that is necessarily limited to PC players though. COD has generally been one of the most hacked games over the years, since the first MW on console. I think cheating is more rampant with the COD community at large. I always felt that when playing on PS3 in past (which is why I always opted to play on Xbox) . It's just a matter that this game offers crossplay, and PC is easier to cheat with.
I have't tried warzone, but playing the rest of MP, the game is supposed to match players based on their input type. I play on PC with a controller, and nearly always wind up in lobbies with console players. Don't think I've ever come across another battle.net user in a lobby.
That's disheartening, as I play on PC, but with controller.
That makes the player pool much smaller (if non existant), since most PC players are using k+m.
I really blame Activision and the devs for this. As I don't see any option readily available in game to report suspected cheaters. Playing other fps games, there are option readily available from the menu to report cheating or network manipulation.

Been playing since the D1 alpha.

I think now would be a good time for Sony to try and secure the exclusive rights to Titanfall of it's at all possible.
It really is the only alternative fps series, since Sony didn't really seem to care about holding onto Destiny.
