I only have time for one console, and have tonnes of PS4 backlog, so I'll just keep going with Sony. Xbox would need to play the likes of Horizon, God of War and the Naughty Dog games to even pique my interest. That or get exclusive rights to Rockstar and Capcom games (lol).
Meh it's about £3 a month, not worth worrying about in the grand scheme of things. I'd keep paying as long as it keeps cloud saves and the back catalogue of Plus games.
Obviously, free would be nicer.
Ultimately we'll choose a console based on the games available.
BC beyond PS4 won't happen, there's little to no money in it for Sony, and it would add to the manufacturing cost and ticket price. PS4 BC is vital for getting people to move over, but let's be honest, 98% of people wouldn't use PS1-3 BC anyway.
I'm happy with my launch PS3 that has BC with the previous 2 gens.
I'd like them to add lots more streamable PS1-3 back catalogue to PS Now, though.
Whether the reviews were paid off or not, they were bang on the money regardless. This is a masterpiece of video gaming and story telling. There are some very upsetting events and the player is forced to play as an initially hated character for a long time. Despite, or because of that, it works and reaches new heights for video gaming as an immersive story telling medium.
It's also simply an excellent adventure game with some stunning scenary and awesome battles vs. the infected.
They're just cooking up a confusing mess that the masses won't understand. It's really powerful, but for the first third of its life will only play the same games as the 2013 Xbox One. It has 'all the best games' , except all the exclusive hits on PS5 and Switch. It's the 4th Xbox generation yet its name is a word salad with no obvious link to previous models. It sounds like some weird special edition "the Series X, now in Black".
I've no doubt it'll be a powerful slick device, but as PS4 and Switch have shown, a strong identity in the market, quality exclusives and a clear target audience are the drivers of success.
I get his point, but I'm not sure they've really gone away.
That's pretty much what the smash hits Uncharted 4 and Resident Evil 2 remake were, so there's clearly still a market for them.
I'd also put the likes of Control and Doom Eternal into that category, ignoring the optional side missions & collectibles.
I definitely prefer the above to the beautifully made, but utterly bloated AC Odyssey for example.
@Old-Red I agree the Gold rush trophy ruins the fun of the missions, and the bear one is just stupid. I got all the other single player ones but gave up there. Shame, as the challenge and animal studying ones were mostly a great experience.
I'd have preferred the Platinum to be single player only as well, or at least just a few easy token online ones.
@Shepherd_Tallon I'm stuck on that Hunk level too. Done every other trophy in the game without trouble, but just can't complete that one. Have tried the speedruns and dodging, tried going all out combat, still die towards the end. There's something about how he moves that just doesn't mesh with me. Many more hours of practice needed I suppose.
I'm not disputing the quality of those two games, but they are very similar, like last month. Would be nice to mix things up a bit each month.
Also they really need to avoid putting EA Access games on PS Plus, in my opinion. It devalues both of the subscriptions to an extent. Old EA games are also generally widely played and dirt cheap in sales already.
Oh well.
Always a strange choice - send out an unfinished game to meet pre-agreed financial deadlines, then lose a huge chunk of your sales due to terrible reviews. You'd think a major publisher like 2k wouldn't stand for that, but here we are. Same goes for Bethesda.
Ability to hide all those games you'll never complete and have 1 trophy.
Another vote for the ability to separate out single and multiplayer trophy lists. Am missing platinum on a few games as I'm not interested in multiplayer or the server is down.
This is why I've sadly lost interest in AC Odyssey long before halfway. Shame, as it plays brilliantly. There's only so many grassy hills, cliffs and islands I need to visit and forts with dopey guards I need to clear. Give me dense, interesting and memorable any day.
@Ryall it's staying at £50 which is a bit unusual, but RDR2 was the same around launch. Going back to the N64 days, £60 at launch was normal. God knows what that is in today's money.
What I really wanted was a huge combined RE2 and RE3 remake, with the stories and locations properly intermingling.
As it stands it's a shame they cut several parts from the original RE3, especially the clock tower building with the spiders
No, keep them in plastic. Not least because game discs are many times more valuable than music CDs and need protection for the second hand market, and for collectors. I'm all for making the cases a bit thinner though.
Media cases are an irrelevance in environmental terms. When Coca Cola and ready meal manufacturers stop pumping out hundreds of tonnes of PET a day, we can start worrying about game cases- which really aren't a litter issue anyway.
@rjejr well, corporations are paying YouTube more for ads than consumers are paying Sony for games etc on PSN. Not an apples vs apples comparison really. Useful for scale I suppose.
The game has some really cool locations, nice graphics and lighting, and there is a lot of attention to detail in the weapons, crafting and bits of world building. Unfortunately it was just quite unrewarding to play. Combat felt like it had no impact, and the story really struggled to hold my interest, I gave up on the Taiga level. Will eventually get back to it and complete it one day.
Just goes to show how relatively small the leap between generations is these days. Can you imagine if all Dreamcast titles had to also run on a Saturn?! Or the same for PS2 vs PS1.
As long as it plays PS4 discs and digital, I'll buy it early on. Otherwise not till 2022+.
Earlier compatibility would be a nice selling feature but in practice not a big % of people would actually use it.
I adored this on PS3, must have completed it 5 times at least. The problem I had with the PS4 remaster was that it is always too dark, and I couldn't increase the brightness enough. Anyone else had that problem?
@KratosMD The original trilogy are seminal, brilliant pieces of video game history. You just need to take the time to get used to the tank controls. They work fine.
Where the heck is Code Veronica!!??!! Definitely a better RE game than Zero, 5 and 6. Jeez, what a massive omission.
And I appreciate the 1990s original and RE2 have been superceded by their remakes, but to me they're still worth a mention and a place on the list if only for the music and nostalgia.

Re: Talking Point: What Free August 2020 PS Plus Games Do You Want?
@delukze no chance, Control's too recent and on PS Now. They won't do another Tomb Raider game for ages either.
I'd like to see Generation Zero as a Plus game.
Re: Talking Point: What Free August 2020 PS Plus Games Do You Want?
@JON22 why buy it if you have it on Plus?
If you need it after your PS Plus lapses, just buy it then. It'll be older so probably be cheaper by then anyway
Re: Sony's First-Parties Have Perfected the Art of Compelling Trophy Lists
It's so much better not to tie multiplayer stuff into the Platinum.
I do prefer a difficulty based one for the Plat though.
And avoid pointless, difficult oddities like RDR2's "get attacked by a bear 18 times"
Re: Sony's First-Parties Have Perfected the Art of Compelling Trophy Lists
@Paranoimia they're not hard at all, done in an hour or two.
Re: Poll: Would You Still Pay for PS Plus if Online Multiplayer Was Free Elsewhere?
@BNAG_Gamer but your broadband fee doesn't run Sony's servers does it? 'Criminal' is a bit overkill.
I'd prefer the cost of the servers was recovered through game sales, but clearly this is the arrangement the market can bear at the moment.
Re: Poll: Would You Still Pay for PS Plus if Online Multiplayer Was Free Elsewhere?
@Netbean you'd spend £400+ on a new Xbox to save £30-40 a year on PS Plus? Or is it because do you think your friends would desert Playstation?

Re: Soapbox: PS5 Will Be Sold on the Strength of Its Sequels
Days Gone had the most obviously open-ended ending, so a sequel is a must. I'd love some more Aloy too. Time to fight those mountain-sized machines.
Re: There Are Only Five PS4 Games Available to Pre-Order from the PS Store
@Rob_230 agreed, it's a quality game. Story is the weakest of the trilogy, but otherwise it's the best of the lot in several ways.
Re: There Are Only Five PS4 Games Available to Pre-Order from the PS Store
Given that most games don't seem to appear until launch day nowadays, I'm not sure it's as much a sign of a wind down as you suggest.
Re: PS Plus May 2020 Reveal Has Been a Disaster, One of the Worst Received Months Ever
@Rudy_Manchego yes, when we consider we've had UC1-3, Journey and Pacman (?!) for free as well in April, it's not that bad at all.
Re: PS Plus May 2020 Reveal Has Been a Disaster, One of the Worst Received Months Ever
I like getting the more unusual types of games through plus, that I wouldn't normally buy. So these are OK. Though two Sims in one month is odd.

Re: Hunt: Showdown - A Monster That Needs More Meat On Its Bones
This game is really good, such tension. And an online combat game that doesn't really favour reflexes, rather you need planning, tactics and stealth.
Whether it keeps me coming back long term remains to be seen, but it's been loads of fun for the opening hours.
