Re: PS5, PS4 Exclusives Will 'Deteriorate' if Launched on PS Plus, Says Sony CFO

Col_McCafferty

@Apfelschteiner you're entitled to your opinion but I couldn't disagree more. Less isn't always more and for me the likes of Lost Legacy and Miles Morales are inferior to the mainline games which spawned them.

I want a proper gaming experience, a proper epic story which takes weeks it not months to complete. People are impatient nowadays and FOMO is a big thing, got to finish the next IN thing quickly in order to move onto the next one and so on.

Re: PS5, PS4 Exclusives Will 'Deteriorate' if Launched on PS Plus, Says Sony CFO

Of course we would want like big games at reduced prices but not if it has a negative effect on the overall quality and ambition.

I bought both HFW and GT 7 upon release and they're worth ever single penny spent and then some. I'm sure GoW Ragnarok will be the same.

Of course we live in turbulent times and the cost of living continues to increase, so it's understandable why some gamers will be looking at ways of cutting spending and looking at 'cheaper' options.

I wouldn't want to see a neutered God of War or Spider-Man but that's not the case for all. I hope Sony's strategy works for them but time will tell.

Re: FIFA Announces Plans to Release EA Sports FC Rival and More

Col_McCafferty

@get2sammyb oh that's for damn sure. FIFA must be the most corrupt body in all of sport. I think all the major countries should be the next to sever ties with them.

As for the games, competition is good but despite being a football fan I don't like football games. Sports games in general but especially football. Some years I've just owned a copy for when people come round.

😁

Re: Gotham Knights' PS4 Version Has Been Cancelled

Col_McCafferty

Even as someone fortune enough to have a PS5 I hope this isn't a growing trend, not whilst PS5s are so hard to come by. It's not as many people just can't be 'bothered' to upgrade is it?!

I was lucky to be notified last summer that PS5s were available at a time when I could actually act upon the heads-up. On previous occasions I was either driving or at work, so impossible to take advantage of the early warning.

Sad to see many comments that boil down to "sucks to be you!".

😟

Re: 19.3 Million PS5 Consoles Have Been Shipped So Far

Col_McCafferty

PS5 is a brilliant console but of course it's still early days, so understand some of the cynicism.

Perhaps if I'd come from a Pro I wouldn't have been so impressed but my base PS4 was dying and the PS5 has surpassed my expectations.

Hope they manage to sort out stock issues and more people get their hands on one.

Re: Elden Ring Enjoys Staggeringly Successful UK Launch, One of the Biggest Games in Years

Col_McCafferty

@ShogunRok Apologies but it just seems that you can't comment on this or any other FromSoft game unless it's pure unadulterated praise.

That's certainly not the case with any other developer or game including those made by a Sony Studio.

Crazy success, I'm sure it's a really good game and most are enjoying it.

2022 has been a wild year so far for obvious reasons but gaming has been crazy. Activision purchase, monopoly talk, Bungie and now actual must play and must have games for us all to enjoy.

Re: Elden Ring Easy Mode Isn't Happening on PS5, PS4

Col_McCafferty

Like. A. Cult.

Anyway, interesting 'debate' guys. FromSoft won't be getting any of my money but that's fine, I've got more tha enough to play with the wonderful Forbidden West, engaging Cyberpunk and now GT 7 (it arrived a day early!) sitting in my library.

These games are welcoming to all gamers.

😝

Re: Elden Ring Easy Mode Isn't Happening on PS5, PS4

Col_McCafferty

@BrainHacker these games can still be difficult though in addition to offering to play the game on a lower difficulty setting. Again, why is this a problem?

You can play on Ultra Hard mode (or normal as it is now) and others can play on an easier setting but perhaps lock the platinum behind completing it on the default setting. Everyone wins, no?

Re: Elden Ring Easy Mode Isn't Happening on PS5, PS4

Col_McCafferty

@FullMetalWesker not sniping at all, not really. Just asking why FromSoft games can't be more accessible and why this would be a bad thing.

The hatred from some quarters towards TLoU 2 was obscene, to compare my comments to those is laughable, really insulting but also proves my point about the sensitivity of Soulsborne fans.

😝

Re: Elden Ring Easy Mode Isn't Happening on PS5, PS4

Col_McCafferty

@lolwhatno sorry I still think that's nonsense. Just a load of gaming snobs desperate to keep out 'casuals' from their favourite games.

There is no real achievement finishing this or any game, not really. Typical Soulsborne cult in action though, quite possibly the most unreasonable fanbase in gaming. That's not trolling by the way, it's based on the comments I have read on this and other sites.

Re: Elden Ring Easy Mode Isn't Happening on PS5, PS4

Col_McCafferty

If a game HAS to be hard in order to have worth, then for me it's not a good game.

I played The Witcher 3 on Easy, it's still one of the greatest games of all time.

Elden Ring could be designed in exactly the same way in addition to having a normal difficulty setting. This would make ZERO difference to the hardcore lots enjoyment of the game.

Re: Elden Ring Easy Mode Isn't Happening on PS5, PS4

Col_McCafferty

@WallyWest eh? I'm just asking why these games can't be made more accessible. What's the problem with giving gamers a choice? Play it as a 'pure' Soulsborne experience or through a more diluted path. Don't get how this would spoil others enjoyment of the the game.

Re: Elden Ring Easy Mode Isn't Happening on PS5, PS4

Col_McCafferty

@starbuck2212 maybe you don't but I've heard a lot from ER developers regarding the difficulty of it and trying to convince gamers that it's their Most Accessible Game Yet simply because it's open world.

Great, go this way get owned. Go another way and get owned again!

😝

Some people obviously lead very sad lives and finishing a Soulsborne game is the highlight of their lives. Take away the 'specialness' of this achievement and what have they got left?!

Not saying that's the case for people on here, you're alright by me.

😉

Re: Elden Ring Easy Mode Isn't Happening on PS5, PS4

Col_McCafferty

On one hand you have all these developers trying to make their games as accessible as possible to all and then you have FromSoft whose entire ethos is "Git Gud".

Of course their games aren't impossible to finish and maybe it's okay if they're not for everyone, but I don't see the harm in offering a 'normal' setting but perhaps withdraw the platinum for completing the game on this level. It would still be a hard game but one more players could actually finish.

And all this talk of hardship, for pity's sake it's just a game man. Want real hardship, look to Ukraine!

Re: Soapbox: It's Okay to Enjoy Elden Ring and Horizon Forbidden West

Col_McCafferty

There's s clear anti-Sony bias amongst many publications especially Eurogamer. They've had a problem with HZD for years and decided to double-down on this with it's sequel. Couldn't even recommend the game. Pathetic really.

RDR2 and The Witcher 3 are the two best open world games, nothing even comes close to these two behemoths.

Re: Soapbox: It's Okay to Enjoy Elden Ring and Horizon Forbidden West

Col_McCafferty

I think it's because in terms of reviews, HFW was being reviewed by some people that clearly didn't like the first game or hadn't even played it.

Elden Ring seems to have been reviewed by people that are already Soulsborne fans and to the extent where major technical flaws have been overlooked, in favour of basically hailing it at the GOAT. To Soulsborne veterans it may well be but to the majority of other gamers out there that just want to have fun with their games, you probably couldn't pay them to play it despite the OTT media response.

I watched a playthrough of ER, it's the same as the others. Which is fine by the way. HFW is criticised for not being radically different from it's predecessor but why should it be and is this fair?

I guess it comes down to whether both games are being reviewed in the same way and to me, they're not.

Also, jus like BotW I think ER is an open world game that appeals to those that don't like open world games. They're then hailed as being as the best example of this genre but compared to the likes of RDR2 and The Witcher 3 they're really not.

It's good that we all have a choice and for PS gamers in particular, we have a lot of options on what to play and that can only be a good things.

You can most definitely like both but whereas Horizon fans are that, fans, many Soulsborne acolytes act almost like a Cult when it comes to this genre to the extent where they think there is more meaning/achievement in finishing one of these games than others. There isn't.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend - Issue 415

Col_McCafferty

Will be playing the brilliant open world game, Horizon Forbidden West. Can't believe some people have already finished the main story, what's the rush? Is it because another game is out or something?

😉

I'm going to take my time with it, games this special (and accessible to all) don't come along very often but weirdly they also do, as I'm playing Cyberpunk 2077 alongside HFW. This is another good game, it some people are sitting on the fence then get off it. It's not the Second Coming but does it have to be?

Some gamers need to learn how to forgive and forget. They messed up in late 2020 but have worked hard to redeem themselves and their baby. Buy it!

😝

Re: Round Up: Elden Ring PS5, PS4 Reviews Crown One of the Best Games of All Time

Col_McCafferty

@KingPev I expect you will but even if I finish last I'll still be making some sort of progress!

@TheArt Well, I haven't played Sport so I am looking forward to it.

😝

I'll see how I get on with Demon's Souls first before making a judgement call on ER. All I'm saying is that I have plenty to play as it is and have no need nor desire to play ER asap despite the stellar reviews.

Re: Round Up: Elden Ring PS5, PS4 Reviews Crown One of the Best Games of All Time

Col_McCafferty

@TheArt I do trust your judgement but on this one I'm not sure, I struggle with games that are Souls lite (Jedi Fallen Order, Kena!) but at least with these you do have the option to lower the difficulty.

Someone bought me Demon's Souls as a gift, not sure why tbh, and maybe I'll have to give that an honest try first and see how I get on. If it's not a complete disaster then maybe I might be tempted to give ER a go as well but that won't be for many months.

I have HFW and Cyberpunk on the go, GT7 out next week and games like GotG and Judgement in my backlog. I'm in no rush to get my arse handed to me on a plate time after time after time after....

😉

Re: Round Up: Elden Ring PS5, PS4 Reviews Crown One of the Best Games of All Time

Col_McCafferty

I'm sure that it is a really good game for Soulsborne fans, despite some of the PR though I doubt it's 'easy' enough for newcomers to enjoy.

We live in an age where more games are finding ways to be more accessible to as wide a range of gamers as possible. For some reason though, adding difficulty levels to these types of games is asking for too much. Is that fair? Does it even matter?

No need to just say GG, people game for different reasons one of which is for entertainment and relaxation. Being stuck on the same boss for hours even days (depending on your available play time) isn't my idea of entertainment or relaxation!
