Re: Review: The Last Guardian (PS4)

@get2sammyb
I have played six hours of the game, I think I am about halfway through.
Incredible game. Does the second part of the game hold up? Because if it does, this game is hall of fame material.

On a side note, I should be upset because of framerate issues on my classic ps4. I am not because the game is too good, but of all bethesdas and third parties that release games with stuttering framerate, I didn't expect Sony to be the first to let me down in this regard with a first party title.

Anyway everyone please play this game and show some love for the potential of our beloved medium.

I tested the patch.
The graphics on the PS4 (classic) are hugely updated, with very neat motion blur and antialiasing. The starships look like little shiny toys now and everything is more polished. This game looks really good!
Also found more interesting planets with canyons I hadn't seen before, but due to the procedural generation of this title I'll need more wandering around to confirm that planets got more interesting.

I am curious to ask to someone who has seen 4k footage on a tv: is the difference actually relevant from standard 1080p hd resolution?
I have quite a big tv and when I play on ps4 I cannot distinguish any pixel.
At what tv size do you start to see any difference?
How would you compare the passage from hd to 4k, and the passage to PAL/NTSC to hd?
I remember being very impressed by the first games in HD, that was such a huge leap.

Re: PS4 Slim Sales Off to a Slow Start in the UK

@get2sammyb Will review websites, including this, test every single game on two platforms to report problems with the game on the old ps4?
And on what console will the review score be based?
Will developers squeeze the impossible out of the old model like they try to do now, if a better model is out, or just relax their standard for the old model?
Time will tell, but I am afraid after the first few months it will be a little messy. Some new games, for reference, don't work that well on the original 3DS.

I'm a bit disgusted by the name Pro, and offended that my once state of the art Ps4 is now labeled an amateurish console.
I buy a console to have the best experience possible.
They won the fight against Microsoft because they had the most powerful console and a simple message. Now they introduce a new console more powerful than their previous model, p*ssing off existing users that will have sub-par framerates and experiences in the long run, and are even surprised if they don't sell the slim/old/weak model?
They shot themselves in the foot in my opinion.

So, some advice from someone so lucky to love the game (nothing against those who don't like it):

  • visit EVERY planet of your star system before moving to the next star system. I found a huge variety of different planets. And try to spend a day/night cycle on foot on it. The planet reveal themselves in this way.
  • generally, the game is at his best when you take your time with it. I'd say, don't try to warp constantly from galaxy to galaxy. I'm only in my third star system after 25 hours in. It's about the journey, not the destination.
  • There is a move that allows you to jetpack horizontally and completely upgrades the traversal mechanics of the game. You need to run, meele and then jetpack quickly. Makes jetpacking around a breeze. Don't look at planets from your airship, land for a moment and then fly away!
  • at the beginning of the game, look for "shelters" to increase your inventory space

Hope this helps. The game is not without faults, but in my opinion in immersion and exploration is masterful.
