I dunno. Games are great. They really are. And I am not complaining. But some of the backend stuff is where Sony needs some "good news" soon. The recent bad press with Indies. The inability for Sony to compete with Gamepass with all the brand new games coming directly to gamepass while Sony folks have to pay for them. All this seems like Sony needs to come out swinging with some backend facelifts on how they do business and how they see the future of gaming. That is kinda my hope... we'll see
For everyone complaining about the price tags for this... We don't even know what was done yet.
This extra island could at several hours of content. And the upgrades for the PS5 could be really good upgrades. And if I know sucker Punch... they are probably really good upgrades. Not just to visuals and frame rate - but even the haptics and controls. Something tells me that the clang of katanas is gonna feel real nice on that PS5 controller
@carlos82 ooooooooooh. Ok. got it. So there is only 1 path to have PS5 version and that is through the DC. So $30. Might be worth it. Loved the game. I'll see if I can catch a deal on it.
For some reason I am super confused. Ok. Own it on ps4 currently. To upgrade to Directors Cut is $20 and to get it to PS5 is another $10.... So $30. Right?
What if I want to get the PS5 vanilla game? Not possible? Or is that still $10?
How gory is it? I started playing biohazard and got to a certain scene and couldn’t take it any more. Is it as gory? Specifically what makes my stomach turn is torture gore. Any of that? I like a good horror game like dead space and such - but sitting and watching people cut off limbs and eat them… nope.
@naruball It is the age in which we live. Investigative journalism has been overtaken by clickbait and opinion pieces. And people don't think critically enough to differentiate those from actual journalism.
One of the reasons I appreciate PushSquare so much. They tend to do investigative reporting rather than rumor mongering. And SOAPBOX is clearly labeled so everyone knows it is opinion and free to be disagreed with.
I agree. When I read about the "outrage" over 1st party - I thought there was something said by Sony recently to change course to do that. Turns out, it was all circumstantial evidence mostly.
It is actually pretty simple and I've been saying it for a while.
Combine PSplus and PSnow and charge $99 a year for the whole thing. Could even grandfather in people who already have PSplus which would be kinda cool.
Maybe this is just the optimistic side of me, but I truly don't think that Microsoft will miss the opportunity to cash in on this via Playstation only owners. Especially with established titles like Elder Scrolls and Fallout. It would effectively cut their sales of that product by more than 1/3. Perhaps they charge 69.99 and make a little extra there. Probably will never see them go on sale in the PS store. But for me, it would be a poor marketing decision to keep PS only owners out. Games is where the money is - not consoles.
That being said, I fully expect all Bethesda new IPs to be Xbox only.
@AdamNovice @zupertramp We are all on the same side here. None of us like scalpers or bots. Again - I still don't have a PS5. So, yeah... I hatem. But they aren't doing the level of damage that some are implying. Out of 4 million units, 400,000-500,000 have been scalped. You are right that is egregious... But, if supply met demand (either by more supply or less demand) we wouldn't even have bots and scalpers to worry about.
TL:DR - Scalpers suck but they are only around because the problem is bigger than them.
@zupertramp No downside it is just not the full picture. People are up in arms - and well they should be, I mean I hate scalpers and bots too - but really the unprecedented demand is the bigger story here.
@AdamNovice Yeah it is a problem but it isn't THE problem. The problem is actually the antiquated and confusing feeding frenzy releases and restocks. Just switch to a "backordered" style sales mechanism and have people sign up. There ya go. No more crazy releases, no more griping.
@deathaxe Like I get what you are saying. This article is talking about semi-conductors and that is the "why" behind the inability to increase production. But the article also references the retail side. It isn't just about factories and semi-conductors... it is about satisfying customers and increasing install bases. And if Sony moves to something (anything) other than the current system for purchases this limited product - I know that that would alleviate some pressure for production. Because, people would know, generally, when they were getting their own PS5. Manufacturing and retail are inherently connected. As the article implies.
@deathaxe Which just furthers my original point above. If there was a backorder system. People would be in line, they could reasonably estimate when they'd get a system, their credit card would be charged when the order was processed and no more stalking websites to get a system. It is really a win for everyone to do this.
Couple thoughts 1.) The purpose of scalping is to have a system now, while stock is low. Bots and scalpers probably wouldn't want to be on this list anyway. Because they wouldn't get a system until a later date. They aren't hitting the "add" button to get a system after all.
2.) Email confirmation required after entry, as well as periodic confirmations as your ship to date approaches. This would make it problematic for bot users I think.
@nessisonett I mean, if they are ordering them for family and friends and selling it for what they paid for it... I guess I don't have a huge problem there - other than jealousy that I don't have them as a family member or friend
Here's an idea... Why not allow customers who desire to order a PS5... order it in a "backordered" status. That way retailers have time to verify purchases are not going to bots and scalpers and people have a confirmed date that their PS5 will be shipped. If I spent $500 and knew that my system would be given to me in 3-5 restockings... I'd be ok with that.
I mean at this point - anything beats rapid firing the purchase button only to have it yanked from your cart.
@suikoden See I would say the same thing - but that 4.1 million Spider man number is intriguing. If they sold 4.5m consoles accounting for not everyone getting spider man and accounting for bots scooping up bundles, I think the numbers tend to agree with the info coming out that only about 10-15% of these have been scalped. Roughly 400,000 units. That is a lot and it sucks - but most of these consoles are actually going to people. Mind you - I am saying this having failed yet again to acquire one. Incidentally - if any of you reading this wanted to sell me your spare PS5 for $500 - I'd gladly pay you
@GamingFan4Lyf Yeah - even a wait-in-line option would be something. It would give the retailer time to verify that it is a real person and not a bot, and it would secure your system, even if it isn't till Jan or Feb.
But this "online only drop it like its hot while all the programs constantly monitor stock and bot purchase like crazy" game we are playing has to end. right?
The worst part about this is how simple it is for retailers to fix it. 1 simple CAPTCHA box that says "I am not a robot" before you are allowed to add it to cart. Add to that a limit one per customer restriction and boddabing boddaboom - problem solved.
@TheRedComet Well - did you get one? I didn't. It was 12:03 when it said it was out of stock. I was trying to get into the site at 12 on the dot... major slog down. Hope you fared better!
@Constable_What Same. I can confirm that you can add this game and others to your library without the physical console. There is even a special pre-order deal on deathloop right now. Just use the app for you phone. It is actually pretty slick
I know that there have been times that PSVR games have come to PS Plus. I don't have a PSVR but I added them to my library in hopes that I may one day get one.
I assume that this will be the case for Bugsnacks? I will be able to add the PS5 version of the game to my library even though I don't have a PS5? ( didn't get a pre-order in )
The real question is... will PS5 get a free game for PS plus subs out the gate? Have they talked about the way PS plus works on PS5 besides the hint system in the UI and the PS4 game collection?
Asking the same question as many. Seeking clarification. I thought they said you could plug in your HDD that you use for PS4 into the PS5 and play off of that. Would that mean that those games could not utilize the "boost" mode? I mean with only 700 gb or less, my PS4 games will not fit.
Still hasn't changed. Also - I'm pretty sure I've seen my friends in my list (those who's level has gone up) go back down... something tells me something is not quite right. Don't hang onto those numbers too tightly y'all
Given the pricing info on the series S coming out today at $299 - Sony needs to communicate (perhaps over communicate) that the PS5 digital is not the same kind of system as the Series S. And that comes down to price too. Pricing their two SKUs at $100 apart would be a mistake. Pricing the PS5 at the same price point as the Series X would also be a mistake. Therefore, I think Sony's play here is - PS5 = $449 and PS5 digital = $399.
I think this is wise. For a yearly game to try to do a game that straddles the line between generations has always been peculiar. I bought NHL 15 for PS4. Compared to its PS3 counterpart it was fairly stripped down. Although it looked prettier. Still - I felt like I got half a game. Good move! Wait till next year to nail NHL 22
I'm about 98% sure that if the situation was in reverse and Xbox had 9 exclusive software IPs that could only be played on the Xbox Series X - He'd probably think differently about what gaming is about.
We live in a world of vitriol. If you don't like something - you trash it. If you REALLY don't like it, you tell everyone they are stupid for liking it.
