The main reason that Vita is the only excluded platform is that it's the only system that relied on ARM-architecture. PS1, PS2 and PSP all relied on MIPS-architectures, which means that there are some similar challenges to address. PS3 is a prominent platform that has a broad popular library among the mainstream, so I'm sure that they're looking to bring this to native compatibility as well. Vita was a platform that was popular among a very small audience, but wasn't successful, and is therefore a much lower priority for implementing in a service.
Sony's annual prices are half the cost of paying per month. That means that the highest tier would be the equivalent of $8 per month. That sounds pretty fair, but you can either look at it as being a good price per year, or a bad price per month.
@Germs73 This is pretty much what I expected once they announced it was to launch multiplatform. There is no longer the motivation to use it as a differentiator for the platform, so the business case behind it changes. I expect that they've actually reduced the size of the team on MLB, and San Diego are working on something else as well.
@art_of_the_kill They kept the part of Japan Studio that had developed successful games in the last 15 years (Asobi); other than XDev work (which will continue), Japan Studio really wasn't delivering anymore
@MatthewJP There's Forspoken coming out in May, but this makes me think that there are some unannounced things for later in the year - if all of these games are out by end of March.
A lot of the 'overpay' of the buyout cost seems to be related to the employee equity buyout and significant paydays to employee shareholder as part of a retention programme over the next few years. Basically, the cost is not only for the studio, IP & staff, but also to ensure retention of the staff
@Snake_V5 I don't get this take; while some individual months aren't great, the games that have been included on PS+ over the last 18 months have been great overall

@BusyOlf It is possible - it just takes a lot of tries and more than a bit of luck
