@TG16_IS_BAE funny story from a friend who lived in Long Beach: he said that he grew disappointed with people in his new city because even the Crips and Bloods recycled, but the average person in his new town didn’t even bother.
As for gangs keeping to themselves... wish that were the case because I had run-ins with gangs on both sides of the country. So this is not true at all.
@Constable_What Couldn't agree more with you there. I don't like monopolies. I enjoy a lot of Crunchyroll's anime offerings, but it's the independence and small company that makes their model appealing.
In the best case scenario, Sony will take a hands-off approach and it will simply infuse Crunchyroll with a lot of capital, but in the worst case, it will censor things more at the very least.
@SeverinMadara As far as save files, yes. My HK data does not get read by my US data.
The short story is, I bought Bloodborne Asian edition on disc. Downloaded the DLC with my US account. Incompatible.
Bought the American digital edition--it couldn't read my Asian data.
So: I put in over 100 hours in the Asian disc and now have to start over in the American digital purchase. I won't be buying it again unless they have significantly more content.
Button mapping was patched into the Switch a few months ago...shouldn’t be a problem for Sony and PS5. The button mapping was necessary to address the same complaint made abouf Dark Souls Remastered for those not used to using B to confirm (X on PS) in an attempt to streamline controls across platforms, and NintendoLife players and staff weren’t happy about B to confirm and A (O on PS) to cancel before the system update.
Sony has the money and resources for the option to button map rather than force people into a set scheme.
Not worried. I play Nintendo and Sony games for their first party and third party exclusives...most of the acquisitions by Microsoft were never from companies I ran to, with Bethesda for example I lost interest in Fallout with 3 because it was a lot different from Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics in terms of tone and feel.
Aside from classic Rareware games, I can’t really think of what I would want that’s an Xbox exclusive that makes me need to run out and grab the system.
@Gamer83 Very good points. The greatest fans are the ones who can laugh at themselves and criticize what they love, not blindly follow and worship it, which in this case is Sony.
To appease the mods and general group here though, I just finished Yakuza 3 Remastered, hated it and loved Yakuza 4 Remastered, and am on Yakuza 5 Remastered (boy that's a mouthful). If they do announce a Kiwami 3, I'll be a little mad I wasted time on 3, but hopefully the quality of life improvements and extras will be worth a second run-through. All the enemies turtling and those chase sequences...hated it. Didn't mind the orphanage or beach life at all--just the combat AI.
I don't know if I'm willing to spend for another Bloodborne after having to buy it twice because I had the HK disc and couldn't get the DLC for my American account without opening a HK account.
If they had a free upgrade to PS5 for having the original, this would be nice, but nah, not gonna happen....though assuming it adds a lot of content, it will be essentially a somewhat new game.
@theheadofabroom Precisely! There is of course a cost for the pastime, but it shouldn't be treated as this elite practice.
The whole argument for elitism and everyone needing to pay seems to also forget that some of us grew up sharing our consoles with our neighbors who couldn't afford them and vice-versa. After all: gamer culture isn't just playing games, but the related interests. Even if a neighbor couldn't afford a SNES or PS1 back in the day, said neighbor could still be your favorite player 2, who ends up playing chiptunes on an acoustic guitar for example.
And as much as I hate the f2p model, there are also free games, and free to pay are still options for some gamers rather than blockbusters or indies.
I hope that those of us in poor financial situations improve our lot, and the social connections from gaming have actually shown me that gamer culture, for all the criticism of it, has just as many cool people as it has some toxic jerks.
This raises an interesting question because last year, on NintendoLife, I griped that a new release was too expensive and I would rather wait for a sale. One user said that I should get a second job instead of complaining, and the argument later devolved into prices and value.
He then argued that if gaming is too expensive, nobody deserves to play since cheapskates shouldn't play video games--thinking that everyone should pay full price to "indie" developers especially. When I countered that some of us had our systems gifted to us, he then argued that poor people shouldn't play video games and nobody should give them systems or games to play for free.
You can imagine how well that went when everyone else rightly pointed out how dumb and dense he was. Seriously: the pricier these get (understandably for hardware and development costs), the harder it is for many of us to justify full price and wait for sales, even if some elitist buffoons call us cheapskates who don't deserve to play because we're "poor".
I'm still getting a PS5 and games, but I'm in no rush to adopt one this year--likely in a year or two when a lot more games are out, prices drop and more sales happen, and of course a Pro model will likely be released.
On the other hand, I got the first PS3 when it still had backwards compatibility for PS1 and PS2 games...but that was a surprise gift from my ex-girlfriend, not an early adoption purchase for $600!
I am aghast at this. No thanks. The Avengers gameplay should earn it the nickname “The Average-ers” but the micro transactions makes them “The Atrocious” and possibly even “The Abysmals”.
@MordmitTotschlag Maybe they’ll make this Deadshot a legacy character then. 🤷🏽 Or continuity errors will be part of cosmic retcons...it is the DCU after all!
@nessisonett Thanks for doing the legwork with the source you cited! Gives these shill articles the swift kick in the head needed to be less fanboy and more critical!
Who knows? Maybe with enough outcry, Spider-Man will end up being only a timed exclusive to placate the non-PlayStation owners who will settle for having Spider-Man much later.
Works for me as I never buy anything new because I wait for the discount in the online store and after all patches for bugs and DLC is available.
For PS4, most of my games are digital because reading the disc has been problematic recently with system updates. For Switch, it is physical as often as possible, unless it’s something ridiculous like part of the game is on the cartridge and the rest of it has to be downloaded...
I was never going to go with Microsoft. I have always been a Nintendo/PlayStation fan and the exclusives to those consoles are what makes me support them each generation.
I am a fan of the old soundtrack and tunes...it feels like a better fit, but that’s just me as a guy who grew up on punk, rock, metal, and grunge in the 90s and the whole extreme attitude era.
@Flaming_Kaiser Very much so. A bit short compared to how my favorite in the series was 2, but still loved it notwithstanding. Order of my BoF faves: 2, 4, 1, 3.
@Flaming_Kaiser not a problem. They just weren’t my cup of tea (I did like FF9 and Xenogears though). Too bad there were still too many bugs in those games you like and my own favorite Xenogears was essentially incomplete and forced out by mandate as seen in disc 2.
@MJA24 while you raise good points, my view of square is that they were great while they were on Super Nintendo. I saw the PlayStation era as hit or miss and then almost everything since PS3 as mostly miss. Granted, I saw the bugs and translation errors on FF7 and its general setting unappealing, but this is because my own preference was Chrono Trigger and FF6, along with Super Mario RPG being my view of what the Squaresoft quality was. If you define it as the PlayStation era, your view is a little later than mine for 90s Square.
Does anyone remember a time when Square cared about quality? Oh yes: the 90s.
It is an insult to port the game back with a downgrade instead of optimization in spite of the extras—might as well just buy the Switch version or let the title have remained a version exclusive.
Sadly if people buy this it will reward bad behavior, and people will.
Never played it but can anyone tell me if they think just this one Mafia game is worthwhile? I’m likely to get it but not interested in the sequels too much. To clarify my taste, I enjoy the Yakuza series, but disdain Grand Theft Auto.
@Xiaolin You make a good point--but it's already a bit different from mine. Yes, I was referring to BASE costs and relative value of what $70 then would be worth today, but if you include microtransactions, then games are more expensive these days because it's not just cartridge materials and packaging then. And regarding greed--this is NEVER absent in the equation.
And while people complain of paying $70 in 2020 for a PS5 game, I’m remembering how Earthworm Jim on the SNES cost the same price back in 1994 while Donkey Kong Country was $60, and then Chrono Trigger was $70 in 1995. According to inflation, it’s equivalent to paying $117 in 2020, so technically, value is down even if the price sticker seems higher...
@SegaBlueSky Yep, it's a real good model and brand--I just never could afford it years ago and can't afford it now even if it's got a tie-in to the game. There's still some good alternatives though that people who really want to play probably already know of and won't have to buy these tie-ins.
Ah, this model was something I considered years ago. Takamine has a good alternative, and some other thoughts were discussed here when checking out alternatives: https://www.rig-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=145114

Re: Katamari Damacy Reroll Finally Comes to PS4 This November
Have it on Switch already too... seems to be a trend for the first few people posting here haha.
But I suspect the sequels may be released as remasters sooner for Sony platforms rather than Nintendo. Whichever comes first!

Looking forward to this. If they add more characters later like Azrael, Spoiler, Orphan, Signal, Batwoman, and Damien, then I’d be really happy.
But as it’s unlikely to happen bringing any or most of those above...Catwoman with all of the above would exist in my ideal version of the game.
