Re: PS Plus, PS Now Members Frustrated by Duplicate PS4 Games

captainsandman

Instead of combining them, maybe have the + features built-in to Now. That way you don't have to pay for both. Thus having a tiered service. I think those typically work out because not everyone wants to pay for streaming rights for ps3 and ps2 and random low quality PS4 games. Then keep PS+ intact for those who want a basic inexpensive service.

Re: Sony Boss Jim Ryan Doesn't Know if Starfield's Coming to PS5 Anymore

captainsandman

@TheFrenchiestFry That was a few gens ago. They are widely known as a 3rd party company now. Just because they favor Microsoft (probably due to getting extra money) doesn't mean that it was similar to Sony's relationship with Insomniac or Sucker Punch. Should Sony get a pass if they bought Activision because they made Crash Bandicoot and PlayStation gets Call of Duty exclusive content? I see that as more comparable situation if it happened.

Re: Sony Boss Jim Ryan Doesn't Know if Starfield's Coming to PS5 Anymore

captainsandman

@TheFrenchiestFry You realize that most of those companies you mentioned made 2nd party exclusives. They already made games exclusively for one system or another. Sony had a proven track record with them and that is why they were purchased. Bethesda was mainly 3rd party so most of their games were on all platforms. A totally different situation.

Re: Mass Effect Legendary Edition Gets Korean Age Rating

captainsandman

@nessisonett Didn't they say that the Mass Effect remasters were happening but were pushed to next year because the original Mass Effect did not match the quality of the remasters of Mass Effect 2 and 3? I don't think we need an official announcement until they are able to drop a trailer that shows the actual quality of the game and when it will be released.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima Supports 60 Frames-Per-Second on PS5, Better Load Times

captainsandman

@thefourfoldrot I should have been clearer. I know that it will still work in backwards compatibility mode. Same as Spiderman PS4. My reticence comes from the fact that they have a PS5 version of Spiderman and a backwards compatible version. I don't want to buy Ghosts now simply to find out later that I will.also need to buy a PS5 version to get updated textures, character models, draw distance, and more combatants (etc etc). They need to lay out the roadmap or communicate with the user base on which games are getting a paid PS5 upgrade version and which ones are getting free boost mode (like ghosts). I want to know that the free boost mode is the end all be all of the game and not just a hold over until they have a paid PS5 upgrade. Again, I know the PS4 version will always work on the PS5 in boost mode. I just want the best version and to not have to buy it twice if I don't have to. Luckily, I never bought Spiderman for this very reason. Now I can but Miles Morales with the Spiderman PS5 version and live my best life. Sony is just lacking in communication. I want them to at least try and model what CD Project Red has done with Cyberpunk. It will have a boost mode on PS5 until they have a free PS5 upgrade of various improvements. That messaging is clear and concise. I would be fine if Sony came out and said that Ghosts has a boost mode but we are also planning a paid PS5 version. This post is long winded but it's just me venting about Sony's basic lack of communication skills for this next gen.

Before I buy a first party PS4 game that I haven't already purchased I would like a clear statement that there will not be a PS5 version that I would also have to buy. This statement states that it will be backwards compatible (like 99.9% of PS4 games) with some hardware acceleration. This does not mean that there will be a free PS5 upgrade if they choose to go above and beyond the 60fps performance boost. They could still pull a Spiderman on us.

Re: Reaction: Spider-Man PS5 Debacle Shows Sony Is Out of Touch

captainsandman

@Skuggs23 I think if you took what Microsoft is doing out of the equation then nobody would be knocking Sony's approach. I love the added PlayStation Plus library of games you get when you buy a PS5. That's a great idea. Microsoft has a remarkable value proposition right now that is hard for a lot of people to pass up. Sure they are missing exclusives but a lot of people just play Multiplatform games anyways. One of my close friends ditched the PS for a XSX because MLB the Show was going Multiplatform. That was the only thing holding him back from switching. He loves the game pass model. I don't think that model is sustainable while keeping the quality of games high. I am still in Sony's camp because I love their exclusives and i want to do VR next gen. I still think their is a market for their approach but they will lose customers this gen.

Re: Reaction: Spider-Man PS5 Debacle Shows Sony Is Out of Touch

captainsandman

I was OK with paying for remastered games between the PS/PS2/PS3 to PS4 because it wasn't possible to play those games on a PS4 and I thought a lot of those games needed extra polish to make them playable on a HD tv. I know for many PS4 games moving to a PS5 it's not as simple as moving a slider bar to upgrade the textures, AI, and other game improvements. If they want to spend the extra time and resources to add those improvements and they are significant enough then I could see them charging on a case by case basis. On paper it may make sense for them to charge but with companies like CD Projekt Red doing free upgrades for existing users it makes Sony look very cheap and consumer unfriendly. In the end you still can play all your PS4 games on the PS5 but anything above and beyond that we are at the publishers mercy. Sony needs to see how competitive Microsoft is this gen and adjust their plan before they solidify themselves as a company that nickels and dimes its customers.

Re: Sony Won't Follow Game Pass Model on PS5, Doesn't Believe It's Sustainable

captainsandman

@PupTwilight Absolutely false. The first Trolls made 346 million worldwide plus additional money being made afterwards in streaming and digital/physical purchases. Big budget movies can generate billions in revenue. This has not proven to be possible without the theater model. Not to mention that movies that hit theaters also make a decent amount of money on home video and streaming deals. Please educate yourself before making outlandish claims. While the Trolls World Tour was somewhat of a success story it would have fared better with theater revenue.

Re: Sony Won't Follow Game Pass Model on PS5, Doesn't Believe It's Sustainable

@phil_j I get you. I play 30 minutes of a game on Game Pass PC and if it doesn't grab me I delete it. If I would have purchased that game I would have given it a little more time to win me over. Same thing with music. Unlimited options and I jump from album to album and never give them the time they deserve. Back in the CD days I would listen to them on repeat and a lot of albums get better on 2nd and 3rd listens. I don't give stuff that chance anymore.

Re: Sony Won't Follow Game Pass Model on PS5, Doesn't Believe It's Sustainable

@Th3solution I agree. I do love the game pass model for the middle to indie type of games. I don't know how it works out for them but it seems to be the type of games that belong on that sort of platform. Then adding in older AAA games in the mix to fill some of the void. I think that model is sustainable. I don't think it's sustainable to bring all 1st party games day 1 and then for us to expect the same volume or quality of AAA titles. I like Microsoft's Game Pass. I have it on PC and it's a great value add. I just see that there is a lot to be desired from their 1st party library. I discovered my love for Forza Horizon 4 and I was surprised that I enjoyed playing through GoW 4 but outside of those series the middle ware and indies are keeping me around.

Re: Sony Won't Follow Game Pass Model on PS5, Doesn't Believe It's Sustainable

captainsandman

I completely agree. It wasn't good for the music or movie industry, but it was good for consumers early on. Do you really think we would get the amount of big blockbuster movies if the theaters didn't exist? No, they cannot make money just bringing blockbusters straight to streaming. That's what Sony wants to continue to do. Make big AAA single-player games and sell them for what they are worth. In the end the subscription model will affect the quality of the product and the consumer loses out to big business once more.

Re: Best PS4 Racing Games

captainsandman

The racers this gen have been pretty disappointing outside of DriveClub. I recently tested out Forza Horizon 4 on Game Pass PC and it was a pretty standout title. Sony really needs to have more alternatives in this genre.

Re: Talking Point: Should Sony Introduce a Game Pass Subscription of Its Own?

captainsandman

People forget that Sony already has Xbox Game Pass in the form of Playstation Now. The argument should be if Sony should lower its price and included all first party titles at launch. I think AAA games should hit PS Now after a year and Sony should lower the cost to match Games Pass.

The problem Sony is running into is that they were first out of the gate with streaming. This means that they are supporting a library of games that can be streamed and PS4 games that can be downloaded. This is a more costly service to run on the back end compared to Xbox Game Pass. I would assume that once Microsoft launches its streaming service that it will be a separate service from Game Pass.

In summary: PS Now is a hybrid service that either needs to be split up into a PS Game Pass and a Streaming service or lower the price to match the Xbox Game Pass and increase Now's library of content. I say Sony should just lower the price and increase content and then Microsoft will need to fire back.

Re: Talking Point: PS Now's Delivering Our Streaming Future, So Why Is Sony the Underdog?

captainsandman

@jdv95 I think we are forgetting the big picture here. The internet landscape will look drastically different in 5 to 10 years. More and more people everyday have access to high tier internet and the demand is rising. I don't think streaming is meant to replace standalone consoles yet. There are still plenty of customers that will still need physical media for years to come. Take a look at the music industry. As streaming services grew and became better the market share of physical media has decreased by huge margins. It comes down to a couple factors, convenience and cost. Most people now stream music and video even though they could get a better picture or sound by other methods. It only makes sense that gaming will go down the same path.
