Re: PS5's Pricey DualSense Edge Pad Has Shorter Battery Life

captainsandman

@Americansamurai1 I agree. They would probably have to redesign it to fit a larger battery. They kept the same footprint as the duel sense controller. I wish they made a fat version of each controller with added battery life. I just have two I swap out every other play session. This new controller is to expensive to keep 2 on hand.

Re: Hardcore PlayStation Fans Seem Dead Against a Horizon Zero Dawn Remake or Remaster

captainsandman

I replayed HZD on PS5 recently (after the 60fps patch) and I found it smooth to play, still beautiful, and barely dated. It holds its own against other similar open world games like AC: Valhalla. If they do an upgrade, it should be free and not take away significant resources from the future. We are in a gaming drought this gen and this just further digs the hole (not to mention Covid setting games back dev time for almost 2 years).

Re: Bungie No Longer Removing Destiny 2 Expansions People Paid For

captainsandman

I call BS on this as well. I am 100% excited for a new era though. I lost step with Destiny 2 and the idea of catching back up again with the leveling and weaponry gave me a headache. If the next iteration could pump out content at an even pace, then it would be easier to stay locked in from expansion to expansion.

Re: PS5 Stock Issues Could Last Into 2024 as Chip Shortages Continue

captainsandman

@ShogunRok he is speculating on the industry at large, but you can read between the lines that this is his way of saying that Intel will have shortages until at least 2024.
AMD has a more positive spin on the matter (both PS5/Xbox heavily rely on them).
"This was contrary to comments from AMD CEO Lisa Su, who at the time had said she expected the second half of 2022 to see supply increase."
I do partially agree with Intel's CEO, but I also think he is running some damage control for his company.

Re: Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.13 Available Now, Adds Three New Cars and Track Layout

captainsandman

I am boarding the boat of people clamoring for an offline version as well. My internet was being worked on sporadically through the weekend and it kept booting me from races. My other qualm is that you have to go through multiple different menus to tune/purchase an item. It should be easier to jump from tuning/parts purchasing/painting/etc. It's just unnecessarily complicated. Besides that, I am loving the hell out of this game.

Re: PS Plus, PS Now Merged Service Revealed, Goes Live in June

captainsandman

@mariomaster96 It's actually just $20 more a year for access to those games. It does suck if that's all you play. Personally, I would never play or stream them, so I am happy for the $20 savings. That was one of the major roadblocks for why I never signed up for PS Now. I didn't want to pay the cost of streaming and for a library of old old games. Now the middle tier is focused on games that I would actually play (most of the market would fall into this basket). The premium tier is for diehards who need their nostalgia fix (Sony knows that these folks will typically pay out for that fix).

Re: Horizon Forbidden West Patch 1.08 Is Out Now, Here Are the Patch Notes

captainsandman

@tofuman86 you realize that all games had bugs before the era of updates and patches right? If anything, it is a good thing that issues can be fixed post launch. Modern open world games are massive. Because of this, there will never be a completely bug free game. Post launch patches and support is a sign of a good developer. As long as the game is not shipped completely broken (PS4 version of Cyberpunk), I see this all as a positive for gamers.

Re: Deathloop Update 1.2 Has Improved Enemy AI

captainsandman

@WallyWest It is pretty immersive breaking when AI is overly dumb. It is still one of the biggest things that needs to be improved in next gen games. We haven't had substantial breakthroughs in AI player reactions and movement in many generations.

Re: A Plague Tale: Innocence - The Rats of Us

captainsandman

As far as story based games go, this is an easy 9. If you love a good yarn then this is a must play. Combat gets a little repetitive and there are a few frustrating moments but that does not hamper it much at all. It is well worth a playthrough.

Re: PS5 Firmware Update Adds External Storage Support for PS5 Games, Social Features, and More Tomorrow

captainsandman

Great news. I am most excited about the Gamebase improvements and the ability to adjust players chat volume. Folders would be a nice addition eventually. It would also be cool to adjust the long press and quick press of the PlayStation button. Still getting used to that one and I have had the system since launch. What probably throws me off is the delay that sometimes happens.

Re: The Last of Us Is Getting a PS5 Remake Eight Years After Release, Claims Report

captainsandman

Not going to lie, I would play it. It is just not at the top of my list of ways I think Sony should invest their money.😁
We are at a point with Sony were there is a lull in games, it is hard to find the PS5, and they are at odds with their most loyal fanbase by closing the Vita/PSP/PS3 stores. They need a big year next year and a lot of this will be forgotten. They also need to figure out a way to fire back at Game Pass.

Re: PlayStation Emulation Patent Raises Hopes of Retro Support

captainsandman

They can easily emulate for PS1/PS2 generation games. No excuses there, more like a lack of interest from gamers and it is not worth the effort on their end. Lets be honest, we can barely keep up with the games from the PS4/PS5 gen, much less play dated games from 20+ years ago. I would love to see it happen though because of the game preservation angle. However, I would never play them myself.
The PS3 cell architecture is another can of worms to unpack. I don't believe that even the PS5 hardware can smoothly emulate PS3 games in a manor in which we would want to play them. There would be all sort of performance issues and game errors that would crop up. Not exactly what you would want your customer having access to or have them complain about. Streaming them remotely through Now is still the best option and they will eventually port over and remaster most of the beloved games from the PS3 era.

Re: Sony Sounds Bitter About the Cyberpunk 2077 Debacle

captainsandman

@rpg2000 I don't think they were the same and I was naming Days Gone because I knew there were a few issues at launch. I don't think any of them were game breaking but that was the closest Sony launch I could think of that might have been better off waiting a few months. If you read my comment I was more asking if Day's Gone was buggy enough at release to go against what Ryan was saying. I didn't play it until the PS5 so I am unsure of it's release state.

Re: Sony Sends Employees Custom Commemorative PS5 Jackets

captainsandman

@Dronewolf You have to realize that Microsoft can't even keep up with the demand and they have sold less systems. Even the chip makers can't even make enough chips to keep up with the demand for high end graphics cards. They are making this stuff as fast as they can because they don't want to miss out on potential sales and most of their profit comes from the store/game purchases.

Re: Sony Sends Employees Custom Commemorative PS5 Jackets

captainsandman

@Rhaoulos I said the software is bare bones at this point and I agree their website and store need a lot of work. Marketing seems to have worked because of all the commotion over it. Did way worse than Microsoft and Nintendo last gen? Not sure what that even means because Sony probably had the best first party lineup and their console sales numbers were over 100 million. They were the first console to have streaming and a subscription service. Microsoft threw the curveball of Game Pass late in the gen and Sony countered with lowering the cost of PS Now and bolstering the lineup (I still think Now needs work and a rebrand. They will forever be behind the 8 ball due to the PS3 generation being so hard to emulate.).
All in all they had a good last gen and about as good as a launch at you can have in a pandemic. They need to fix their messaging, PS Now, website, store, and continue to update PS5 with new features.
Lets not forget, it's all about the games and Sony continues to deliver.

Re: Sony Sends Employees Custom Commemorative PS5 Jackets

captainsandman

@Rhaoulos With the high demand and a global pandemic I really don't know how it could have been done better from Sony's side. Sure, they could have forced Target and Walmart to implement better bot protection but that is not within their scope of responsibility.
As far as games go, this launch selection was pretty stellar plus we got the PlayStation Plus collection.
Nitpicks
Their console software could be better and it is missing some features out of the box. Its ease of use could have also been better as well. I am tired of running tech support for my buddies that picked one up.

Re: Six Months After Release, The Last of Us 2 Gets a New Story Trailer

captainsandman

Have they announced any upgrade path for PS5? The game literally came out this year. You would think they would have planned for the PS5 as well. I refuse to buy it until there is a statement on whether we have to pay for a remaster or it gets improvements for free like Days Gone. I find this very odd that none of the Naughty Dog games play much better on the PS5. I would love to play all of their games in 60fps or more.
