Re: Hades (PS5) - Who Knew Escaping Hell Would Be So Heavenly?

patronmacabre

Hades was a game that I think was spoiled for me by the early access. I absolutely loved it to death back when I played it in 2018. Then when the craze happened in 2020, I was kind of underwhelmed, because it didn't really expand all that much.

I think I was also the only person who didn't really like the story of it. I think there was just way too much dialogue and I always wanted to get back to the game. I wish the dialogue was presented like in Bastion or Transistor, so that I could learn things without it taking me away from the gameplay.

Re: Sony Completes Acquisition of Anime Giant Crunchyroll

For the people that think Sony is going to do some bundles with anime and Playstation Plus, I wouldn't hold your breath. While there is some overlap between the sectors, Sony's individual sectors function very separately.

Everyday♪ Today's Menu for the Emiya Family is a perfect example. It is a console game that came out a couple months ago that is published and co-developed by Aniplex, which is owned by Sony. There is no reason it couldn't be on Playstation systems, but it is currently a Switch exclusive.

Re: Bluepoint Stresses It's Fully Independent as Sony Acquisition Speculation Swirls

patronmacabre

The more I think about it, the weirder it is. I would just be fascinated to learn what happened if Sony isn't actually acquiring Bluepoint.

In order for Sony Japan's Twitter to make that mistake, two people must have independently screwed up — the graphic designer and the Twitter community manager. One person making a mistake is normal, but two independent mistakes is weird.

My guess is that either the Bluepoint acquisition fell apart at the very last minute or they're just being quiet about it.

Re: Sony Under Heavy Fire for Handling of Indies on PS Store

patronmacabre

I'm of two minds here.

On the one hand: Sony always needs to fix their *****. They're so backwards on everything (except compatibility!) and this is one more case of it.

On the other hand: The indie game market is just too overcrowded at this point. I never buy indie games on Steam anymore. I think the Switch has a pretty good balance of curation and openness, but even then, it has gotten a bit too open for my liking.

On the third hand: Life of Black Tiger happened.

Re: Atlus Stresses Importance of Overseas Sales as Persona 5 Royal Tops 1.8 Million Copies

patronmacabre

900,000 sales of P4G on Steam is actually pretty disappointing. I'm pretty sure P4G sold a million-ish copies on Vita, and that was the Vita.

That said, Atlus has pretty typically relied on a small passionate fanbase instead of trying to appeal to as many people as possible. So you have people like me that have bough all of the mainline Persona games multiple times, as well as almost all of the spinoffs.

On a side note: I am glad Persona 5 Royal has outsold the original Persona 5. The original version should be wiped from stores so no one makes that mistake. Royal is so much better than the original in every way.

Re: It Looks Like a Sequel to AI: The Somnium Files Is in the Works

patronmacabre

The original game was great. It definitely wasn't as shocking as Zero Escape and I much preferred the escape room puzzles of those games to the weird... time management puzzles of AI: Somnium files, but AI: Somnium Files had a solid, engaging storyline. Even if it was very predictable.

I'm hoping the second game will be a bit more tonally consistent. The random perverted stuff was just annoying in the first game.

Re: Reaction: E3 Is a Relic Desperately Clinging to Relevancy

patronmacabre

The Nintendo E3 was excellent. I was so excited to see reveals for games that are actually coming out relatively soon.

I think Nintendo hasn't bowed out of E3 because it likes to do its Treehouse presentation. If it did, E3 would be so much less interesting.

I would really like Sony to adopt a Treehouse-style presentation.

Re: Actually, PlayStation Boss Jim Ryan Doesn't Hate Old Games

patronmacabre

There is no reason PS classics aren't on the PS5. There should be no difficulty putting PS1 and PSP games on the PS5 whatsoever.

PS2 games are a bit more problematic. Some games, most notably the Ratchet and Clanks, used a bunch of weird cheats to make it run on the PS2, like having certain assets loaded from the the center of the disk, so those games are extremely difficult to emulate. But I do wish they expanded the PS2-on-PS4 offerings.

PS3 architecture is so weird, so we'll get good PS3 emulation around the same time we get good Sega Saturn emulation.

And with PS Vita emulation... let's be fair. 99% of people would be satisfied if Persona 4 Golden just got ported to PS5.

Re: Poll: How Excited Are You for This Summer's Gaming Events?

patronmacabre

I'm glad Playstation has largely shifted over towards the Nintendo Direct style of presentation. They're still not quite as well presented as Nintendo does them, but it's nice to be able to watch a 30 minute to an hour commercial. It's much less tedious than what my old E3 ritual was: waiting through a bunch of boring presentations until I got to see what Sony and Nintendo had to show.

Re: The Last of Us 2 PS5 Patch Out Now, Adds 60FPS Option

patronmacabre

I was sort of between games, messing around between Jak 2, Jak 3, Thimbleweed Park, and Minecraft. I was considering getting Nocturne, but I wasn't sure that I would like it.

Then I saw that the PS5 patch of this game dropped and I decided it was finally time for me to play through this game a third time.

Re: Warner Bros' Gaming Division Will Be Broken Up As Part of Merger

patronmacabre

I really hate the way the videogames industry has been going in the last couple of years. Constant mergers and acquisitions are bad for the consumer and bad for creative freedom.

It will be pretty unfortunate if this antitrust action ultimately leads to more and more acquisitions in the videogame industry, but the videogame industry is small potatoes compared to the broader media and telecommunications industry.

Re: Housemarque Thanks Sony for Supporting the 'Very Risky' Returnal

@TheCollector316
I agree with Bluepoint and Housemarque, but Sumo is not a good fit.

1) Sumo is an enormous studio. Bluepoint and Housemarque are less than 100 employees. Sumo is close to 800.
2) Sumo has made plenty games for Microsoft and other publishers. Acquiring Sumo would just be exclusionary without any clear benefits.
