@Neoguardian86 Sure hiring out venues and transporting people to physical shows is expensive, but I think you should also consider the cost and inconvenience of preparing something for a showcase. Many developers find show builds to be very annoying because they aren't really working on the game, rather the marketing. It works really well to have the in depth look at gameplay in a separate state of play. e3 used to get so boring when there was a 20 gameplay demo of a game you have little interest in, but a state of play is something you will watch particularly for that game. That way it isn't necessary to provide a playable demo for a game that is early in development. Maybe it's less interesting, but it's better this way for the business and for the developers.
@JJ2 It's not that uncommon for government agencies to lock the door after the horse has bolted. I wouldn't point to malice when incompetence is a far more likely reason.
@Ryany I'm not arguing that Xbox is not good, but PS5 is clearly the superior console in terms of games because of Sony's track record. Xbox has had more than enough time to get their studios in order, but the whole of the Xbone generation was slim pickings. Bethesda was a great purchase for Xbox, but Activision is not really one for gamers. I have so many backlog games and PS+ games that game pass would be a waste of money for me.
@Ryany And consoles are dead because of mobile. We're always going to have single-player games. Perhaps the scope will change, or maybe we'll have GTA-like games where a certain group just play through the story and another group just play online.
@OmegaStriver I view not having release dates as a good thing. It shows that the industry is learning about promising release dates that they just can't hit.
@Ryany You are smoking something if you think it's worth selling your PS5 to get an Xbox if you only have two games coming out that may or may not be good. If starfield is not the second coming of Christ, it will be a disaster for Xbox based on how they have pinned everything on that one game.
@OM1993 PSVR games should be kept separate in their own showcase, unless they just say at the end, all of the games you just saw are playable in PSVR2!
@RevGaming I'd like a balance. If we are moving towards a streaming-first future. Shorter, cheaper games will be preferable. Clearly, the systems etc. are built for the one game and it is pretty cheap in comparison to make the follow-up game.
@BReal Streaming doesn't really work as a business model for music especially (musicians are making way less on music streaming royalties than they did for CDs or even digital sales), can you point to a streaming service that has a sustainable business model? Maybe Disney, who do not put their big releases out on Disney+ day and date. Sony has pitched it about right, maybe they could go the Disney+ route and put out some AA games day and date with the AAA stuff with a protected window. The benifit to individual game sales is that you can sell to the backlog and sell games that will only be played for a few hours until the player moves on. Multiplayer games are moving to the free-to-play model anyway. Rocket League would not be a big draw for game pass now that it is free to play.
@Sam_ATLUS I think it would also be fine for Sony to have their big show in September. However we look at it, they absolutely need a major show to get everyone hyped and maybe remind them not to settle for an Xbox if they can't get a PS5 yet.
@Marios-love-child When Ghost of Tsushima came out I vowed to leave it for PS5 and I didn't play any new games that came out after that. Even when I couldn't get a PS5 for almost 18 months I was disappointed to hear that games like HFW would be cross-generation releases. There are more than enough great games to play on PS4 if that is all you ever have. Regardless, it is the business argument that will win the day. I think we are getting close enough to the tipping point for first-party games. Sony are probably seeing that their main exclusives have long tails and maybe even seeing that people are holding off buying cross-generation games until they get their PS5.
@RBMango I think sales are being skewed towards physical while people are picking up games with their new PS5. I'm definitely going to buy HFW when I get round to it, but I don't have the time or desire to play games as they release.
@UltimateOtaku91 Or Iki Island should have been a standalone game. Everything else aside, it's annoying to keep the save data for the main game on your hard drive to access the DLC.
@Col_McCafferty I just feel like almost all games are longer than they should be and as I have limited time I find games that I would have been happy to have as a kid just direspect my time. Every so often I will play a 100+ hour game, but that is a once in a few years occurance for me.
@Col_McCafferty What I would like to see rather than a huge God of War or Last of us would be two smaller God of War games spread out. Sony should do more of those interstitial games like Uncharted lost legacy. I'd be more than happy to reduce the number of 40+ hour games for more frequent 10+ hour games.
@Grumblevolcano Game Pass has been around for a few years now and the day one games are not the selling point. People get it for a constant supply of mediocre to good games for a low price. It is good at what it does, but day one releases are not that appealing at present.
@BReal The future is absolutely not set to be subscription-based. Right now we are at a cross-road. The premium model is proven to work, the subscription model has never been proven to work as a sustainable business model. If anything, it is clear that subscription is becoming a more important sector.
@Arisen I want to play life is strange true colors, but if it is on PS+ premium I will sub for one month to play it. Same goes for the Supermassive anthology games.
@get2sammyb Not now it won't be. EA passing on the license really reduces the value of the license. If Konami just rebrand as FIFA, they will get millions of sales even if they are unwitting customers. If they sign a deal that is per copy sold, they could do very well.
@Martsmall You don't understand the concept of justice. Justice isn't for someone like Hitler, it's for the public. By the standards of the day he would have been hanged anyway after a trial.
@Korgon The boring thing is that you have to watch the same animation over and over again. I really enjoyed it the first few times, but after that it is incredibly dull.
@lolwhatno It's ridiculous how easy it is for kids to get hold of games compared to other things deemed not to be appropriate, but games being interactive are particularly inappropriate and should be more restricted rather than less restricted.
@Max_the_German I think it doesn't really matter because people in video games are not really people. I'm totally fine with killing any game character who is trying to kill my character. It's the same whether they are Samurai, Yokai, Nazis, or Communists. I actually like the idea of games that make you feel bad about it. I get what you are saying. I definitely find it weird for PushSquare to set the tone and then be censorious of similarly appropriate comments.

Re: Random: Unreal 5 Train Station Demo Remade in Dreams Comes Surprisingly Close
Dreams doesn't necessarily have a textured look that makes things appear fuzzy.

Re: Despite FTC Investigation, Sony Expects Bungie Acquisition to Close This Year
@mucc I'm not trying to defend the FTC, but it makes sense for them to give extra scrutiny due to the volume and valuations of acquisitions recently.

Re: Talking Point: Does Sony Need a Big Summer Showcase?
@Ryany I forgot about Somerville. It looks pretty decent. It will come to PS5 eventually.
Re: Talking Point: Does Sony Need a Big Summer Showcase?
@OrtadragoonX Sony Santa Monica have a good track record, Bethesda cannot be counted on and we have to wait for the reviews.

@JJ2 I totally agree. God of War State of play, plus September showcase.
Re: Talking Point: Does Sony Need a Big Summer Showcase?
@UltimateOtaku91 I love a good mix of CGI trailers and gameplay. I like having reveals of games that are coming in a year to 18 months.

Re: PS4 Games That Need a PS5 Patch
@Barryburton97 Maybe I'll have to fire up one of those, thanks. For me 30 fps solid will always be better than 60 fps when it's really choppy.

@themightyant Sony don't want quirky AA anymore. That's why they got rid of Japan Studio.

I am pretty sure that season passes are also included in the sale.
I'm going to get the Lost Judgment Season Pass for 30% off.
Re: FIFA Announces Plans to Release EA Sports FC Rival and More
@get2sammyb If FIFA are smart on this they will give very generous terms to Konami.
Re: FIFA Announces Plans to Release EA Sports FC Rival and More
@UltimateOtaku91 They might even realize that they only really cared for the license anyway and will still end up buying the next one.
Re: Shoot Hitler in the Balls and Unlock a Sniper Elite 5 Trophy
@AhmadSumadi No one is defending Hitler. Just one guy has a consistent belief that we shouldn't fetishize violence against even the worst people.
Re: FIFA Announces Plans to Release EA Sports FC Rival and More
Are we going to see a walking sim from FIFA about human rights abuses in Qatar?
Re: Shoot Hitler in the Balls and Unlock a Sniper Elite 5 Trophy
@NEStalgia The main reason is that the Nazis were more stylish and we fought the Nazis in WW2, so culturally they are a natural enemy in games too.

The world cup is half the interest, but surely they can have an international cup and call it the international cup instead of the world cup.
