@REALROBLAW you can already do that- buy digital then download to an external hard drive. Then download to other drives and create as many backups as you see fit. Other than the titles that need always-online access to a server that will one day shut down, e.g Anthem, you should be able to play the games for as long as your console lives.
I love having a physical collection, but I'm coming to accept that from PS4 onwards they are mostly resellable license keys in nice boxes.
Other than remasters and GOTY-type reissues, more and more discs contain merely buggy and/or empty launch versions, which often barely even work without access to a server anyway. So many games won't work once the servers are taken down, so the physical version doesn't even preserve the game like we feel it should.
I'd begrudgingly accept an all digital future, as long as there was some form of competion between retailers, like with PC.
@JoeBlogs digital normally costs more because they have a monopoly. Physical stores have to cut their prices to compete with the convenience of digital, as well as Amazon and a dozen other retailers.
Underwhelming this month, was hoping for better Christmas offerings. But overall it's been a pretty decent year on Plus.
Personally I'd prefer they combined the monthly games from Plus into Now, so there's just one, less confusing, game rental service, then cut the price of online play and backup to something cheap like £2 a month, if not free.
@ApostateMage Shadow actually went further and let you change combat, exploration and puzzle difficulty separately. Or you could put it on Deadly Obsession and it maxed out everything and removed checkpoints.
@Dodoo it's a slow meandering game for most of the runtime to be honest. Interspersed by a few action packed missions.
It's the quiet moments in the wild, where the magic lies, as well as some of the lower key missions with the likes of Hosea and Charles. And the Epilogue part 2 is actually quite lovely (if taken in isolation!).
@Dodoo I was the same, gave up after 10 hours feeling disappointed at launch. But do give it at least one more try. Once I'd forgotten what I had expected it to be, a few months later, I was able to enjoy it for what it is. And after 131 hours of play I'd say it's an absolute masterpiece.
@jess3a3 strange comment. There's barely anything like RDR2 out there. Whereas Uncharted 4 is pretty much a typical action video game, done very well with an enormous budget and a charming and exciting story.
I've been playing RDR2 for a year and after 125 hours I'm on the brink of 100% completion. One of the games of my life. But that just shows I'll never make a dent in most of the titles in this list. Bring on retirement!
Cancelled my Medievil pre-order, which I had due to nostalgia. It looks very nice, but I realised I don't actually like the swishy combat from the original. . The demo didn't have the desired effect, sorry Sony.
That's like choosing your favourite child. But I've plumped for Last of Us as it had such a profound impact on me. I still think about bits of that game years later as I go about my day.
The incredible God of War and HZD tied for second place.
I wish I had the patience to get good enough at Bloodborne...
Uncharted games are a lot of fun and technical marvels. I've played all five home console games. But, find them a bit forgettable, like summer blockbuster action films. No. 4 got closest to nailing the emotional impact.
Anyway, I fully expect any back compatibility pre-PS4 to be streaming or at most digital download based. There is minimal money to be made from playing old discs.
I have a BC PS3 that plays PS1 and 2, and to be honest I've hardly used it for at least a year. PS4 gets all the attention in my house, there's just too many great new games to play.
Saying that, if the PS5 is able to properly upscale old games, that'd be very interesting. PS1 in particular doesn't play that nicely with many modern TVs.
BC with PS4 is essential though, in my view. The library is immense and the games are still coming thick and fast.
My suggestion would be each month they should have a menu of games to choose from, say 6, and you can choose up to 2-3 to download and hold for the rest of your subscription. The cost to Sony would be similar and people would moan less.
It's the price per year of one new release game. For the right to play 24 extra games per year, most of which are worth playing, plus online play, save file backup and the odd discount. The longer you hold it, the more games you have access to for your money.
I just got 1 week of free Sky Sports, which I normally pay £11 for, considering I spent £35 for the year, that's a great deal.
PS Plus is really good value. The people moaning are just desperate to be upset about something. Sure, they could include different games but you can't please everyone.
P.s. I'm fine with PES 2019 too. I don't think I'll ever have the time to get into Borderlands and Sonic holds no appeal. Not everyone has the same tastes.

Not really a battle is it?

Re: UK Sales Charts: Despite Black Friday, No Returning PS4 Games Breach the Top 10
Xbox consoles had some very big discounts available, and Sea of Thieves was bundles with pretty much all of them, hence the high chart position.
Re: Poll: Are You Happy With Your PS Plus Games for December 2019?
But overall, for something that costs as little as £2.50 per month if you buy carefully, PS Plus causes a heck of a lot of drama amongst customers.

Re: Guide: Black Friday 2019 - Best PS4 Deals on Hardware, Bundles, Games, PS Plus, PSVR, and More
Oh look, an Amazon advert. Pretty much all of those games have been, or are available cheaper at the likes of Base and The Game Collection.

Re: Talking Point: Is the PS4's Final Year of Relevance in Danger of Becoming Overhyped?
With such a backlog, I'm perfectly happy for nothing good at all to come out in 2020... except LOU Part II of course

Re: UK Sales Charts: WWE 2K20 Debuts in Third Despite Its Countless Glitches Going Viral
@Shatter they must include pre-orders. Most physical games are paid for at launch anyway, not upon order.
Otherwise you'd see big titles in the chart ahead of launch- I'd bet Last of Us 2 has seen enough preorders to break the top 10 in recent weeks.
Re: The Outer Worlds Asks If You Want to Watch the Galaxy Burn in Classy Launch Trailer
@Star-Lord it plays fine on PS3. PC probably a bit better of course.

Re: Poll: Is PS Now's Price Drop Tempting You to Subscribe?
Seems good value, but the last thing I need is an even bigger backlog. Just don't need more games.

The digital future, folks. At least it's available in disc form.
