@MaikonCSGarcia Think Fall of Cybertron, Last Spark and Devastation are all realistic to be re-listed for PS4 if MS signs a licensing agreement, as well as some of the movie tie-ins. But I doubt MS will invest on porting any game that is locked on the PS3 to modern consoles. Only see the doing that for Xbox.
They might re-list them on PS3 and agree with Sony for them to work via streaming on PSN Extra, though....
I doubt ABK will bother renewing that licensing agreement, ever. But this is all about a potential post-acquisition move. At that point, it's all on MS to decide if they want to invest on PS4/5 ports of these games. I doubt they will, this will likely be "stuck" on Xbox and PC (Microsoft Store and Steam)
@Cashews the trial spans the base game and 2 expansions. Thats 5 to 6 years worth of content. I can easily see a casual player taking a year to beat all of that story. Rushing through that story can take several months.
This is not just a few free loot boxes, each of these expansions could be a full single player game on their own right, and there will be 3 of them available now. No time limit to play through it all either. This is forever.
The only gotcha is that if you ever subscribe, you lose access to the free trial permanently, at least under that SquareEnix account, you would have to start from scratch in a brand new account if you wanted to revert to free trial.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner there are a lot of limitations like not being able to access the auction house or broadcast channels, and a way lower gil cap, but you can pretty much play the whole game and get gear without spending a dime.
The content all the way through Stormblood is a gigantic amount of content. I can see some casual players taking a year to go through the main story, much more if they decide to level up multiple jobs to the level 70 cap.
@Cashews Doubt they will add this to game pass. The base game plus two expansions are going to be free. That's a huge amount of content, for free, but likely still tied to requiring either Game Pass Ultimate or Game Pass Core given the core game is actually a paid game, not F2P.
Mind you: always keep in mind if you ever paid for the game before, you cant ever play the "free" game again (unless anything has changed recently.)
@Gamer_Guy don't forget about those that claim subscriptions are bad and they rather support the devs by buying their games instead. I'm sure some of the people expressing happiness over this have stated such things about rival subscription services.
Off-topic: don't know if there is some licensing deal, but might be a good idea to stop embedding tweets and instead embed a screenshot. I don't see this whole platform surviving long, and a huge number of articles are going to end up being ruined by its eventual collapse.
I found this game to be a lot of fun, but anyone jumping in needs to know what they are going into. It's not only the humor (if you hate Rick and Morty, you wont like this game) but also the fact that its not a "first person shooter".
This game is closer to a Metroid Prime inspired game than a refined shooter. It's focus is mostly on exploration, finding upgrades, traversal, means to unlock paths via special weapons, etc. It's shooting gameplay is below average, but as a 3D metroidvania, it has a bit of meat on its bones.
@Shepherd_Tallon tbf, the line about generations happened before the pandemic and the supply shortages.
You dont just make a prev-gen version of the game overnight, especially during the pandemic when development slowed down, not accelerated. They knew those games were going to run on PS4s.
but if they don't have a single other single player game in development though I'll eat my socks.
I am not saying they are not developing SP games, but where are they? how far away are they?
My contentment does not rely on others agreeing with me first of all. I'm just here for the conversations.
My point is that I only care about Sony 1st party sp games. Sorry but after third party exclusivity (timed or permanent) flukes like Ghostwire and Forespoken, I am not going to hold my breath or hopes on any such initiatives.
I like [most] Sony single player 1st party games, and my current negativity is that we are seeing a slowdown on that front. One game this year, and only Wolverine teased for who-knows-when. Only one thing will reassure me, and its them actually announcing [single player] games.
@Shepherd_Tallon They they already say that they wouldn't be taking resources away from first party single player output?
I stopped listening after too many things they said turned out to be just hot air. Remember the whole "we believe in generations"?
I see what is in front of us.
2023, 1 single player game.
2024 .. wolverine? maybe?
Is that the future of PS? One single player triple-a game a year?
Edit:
For clarification: if they got more games, fantastic. Show them to us. Any time someone says such things without reveals, I just expect things to arrive in 3 years or more.
Edit 2:
I see your hype list includes Fiargames, Concord, Marathon and Destiny. Cool if that's your coup of tea, but also worth noting why you don't actually mind the GaaS direction is because you actually love that kind of game instead of trying to convince others to keep hopes high for unannounced single player games.
@AhmadSumadi All we know about their future output (2024 and beyond,) outside of Wolverine are GaaS. I would say thats more than speculation.
Right now, their biggest money makers are CoD and Genshin Impact. If they can get in-house games to have that level of success, yes I honestly expect his management to cling to that.
It takes more money than ever to make games, and they are throwing a huge amount of money at 12 GaaS titles, there is no way we are going to see an increase on first party output, if anything, we will see fewer first party triple A titles every year. We already are only getting Spider-Man 2 this year, and we have no clue what will come next year.
Lets imagine any of their service games becomes a big deal... we have seen how money-obsessed Sony can be under Jim Ryan... does anyone here really think they would not do their best to tune their entire operation around their successful service games the same way ABK revolves around CoD, Overwatch, WoW and now always-online-Diablo-4?
Yea, they will keep cranking up some single player games, for now.
@Deshalu "are you including third-party? Because their first party was really lacking. It was also the first time they never brought out a twisted metal or socom. They also had a number of other IP’s that never came out."
I am not crazy about the PS4 gen, especially how barren it was at launch, but the PS4 gen as a whole had way more first party games than PS1 and PS2 combined. I would say it had more essential play first party games too.
PS3 had Uncharted, and Last of Us, I honestly dont consider any other first party game that gen "must plays".
PS4 ended up having Horizon, a very good Uncharted game, God of War, Spider-Man and Last of Us.
Twisted Metal and Socom might spark some nostalgia in some people, but they are far from "must play" games.
@MaccaMUFC "Sony should maybe think about signing that 10 year deal with Microsoft now, otherwise MS won’t be obligated to keep CoD on PlayStation for the next 10 years…"
Upper MS management basically stated that ABK needs to start making money day one. This means they can't make practically anything exclusive. Maybe Phill would had considered making CoD exclusive and take losses, but Natia and the board were clear that is not a risk they can take. Once this goes through, immediate revenue increase is expected.
CoD is not gong to leave PlayStation. It makes too much money there.
@UltimateOtaku91 "This is good news as now that money won't go towards buying developers/publishers that make games I actually care about."
For better or worse (depending what side of the fence someone reading this sits on) MS still has plenty of money to buy most other publishers. I think only the likes of EA and 2K are off-limit due to their size, but am certain most publishers anyone here cares about are within their reach, so long they are willing to sell.
If you like the deal, great. But if that's the reason you like the deal going through, you might be disappointed next year when they announce they are buying X or Y.
"It doesn't seem like they have any authority or even willpower to prevent these giant trillion dollar megacorps from becoming even bigger, so what's the point?"
Regulators don't exist to prevent companies from becoming larger, at least not in the US. They exists to protect consumers.
A lot of the defenses from MS in this case has been about its "verticality", it increases the size of MS but it does not in a field where they already have a drastic lead, desktop operating systems, for example.
I could never see MS being allowed to acquire Apple, for example. Nor ATT acquiring Verizon. I also see it very unlikely that MS would be allowed to acquire another platform holder (Nintendo or Sony) as all those things lessen competition.
