Started yesterday; loving it so far. Classic AC and the weather effects add a new aspect.
My only disappointments thus far are that at least some skins have to be unlocked by playing multiplayer, and that an early twist on how you earned your strikea was spoiled by this very website a few months ago. So the impact was reduced as I knew what would happen.
Can’t play VR yet as lack the tech needed but tried the demo at a convention and psyched to try that too.
My desire for this game is reaching fever pitch. Finally bought a PS4 last weekend in prep for this. Don’t have VR yet but will be a nice extra when I can finally get one.
May jump in for a few matches but for me, Ace Combat is always about the singleplayer.
What I'm thankful for is that the producer has already confirmed that multiplayer does not need to be played to unlock anything in singleplayer; unlike Assault Horizon had.
That’s cos you’re thinking from a gamer’s point of view and not an aviation fan’s point of view. Anyone with experienxe in building and collecting model aircraft knows length and width are more important.
Unless you collect rockets or tailsitter aircraft like a XFV Salmon or X-13. I have a glass case with that model’s name on it.
Dammit! Spoilers! It would have been more surprising if I had only found out Trigger’s accused crime when playing the game even if in the intro! Especially with its connection to AC5 (I’m assuming, don’t confirm or correct me).
Although now wondering whether to get a PS4 or PS4 Pro.
@Nakatomi_Uk AC5 is being rereleased on PS4 and available via the Digital Deluxe Edition.
@Matroska They have! This one is set in Strangereal and makes nods to both Ace Combat 04 and 5; plus the Gamescom trailer is full of the spinetingling melodramatic plot and orchestral soundtrack the series is known for.
@ApostateMage I think you’ll only bounce off the ground in Very Easy mode (if this has the 6 difficulties as Ace Combat 04, 5, Zero and 6. Every other dificulty you will Buy the Farm.
I admit I haven't played any of the PS4 titles but agree that 2 is the best PS3 title and 3 is one of the lesser titles. Although I admit I maybhave rushed through 3 so much that I dampened my experience.
That and after the amazing 2nd game I was expecting so much.
Also, "Game of the Generation"? Only if the word "Generation" is gaming lingo for "contains characters you most want to mercilessly bludgeon into mincemeat with multiple blunt objects".
I think it's a good idea, though maybe a bit expensive. I like owning the standard cases so to give a sense of standardisation on my shelf. However I also like extra steelbooks.
They should keep around 5-6 consoles as back-ups or for that impromptu LAN party (is that possible with PS4?) and all the games (discs are scratch resistant but not indestructible; although if some are digital codes that would be helpful).
As for the rest of the consoles; could be used as prizes for fund raising raffles.
@CliffordB Whilst I can understand the added bonus of an achievment system, denying yourself fun games merely because you are not getting some "arbitrarary reward" sounds self-defeating and somewhat incomprehensible, at least to me. I have a friend obsessed with trophies and she ends up playing even the worst games, sometimes at incessent frequency before servers close and will then get frustrated and complain to me when trying to get a really aggravating or frustrating trophy. I sometimes have difficulty sympathising as its almost like she has forgotten one of the primary aims of gaming; having fun.
@toon_lonk1 From what I've seen, the Switch version of Breath of the Wild seems likely to be the superior variant, plus the portability is a huge boon during my long distance train journeys I regularly have to take. That and I just love buying Nintendo's hardware on launch; they tend to be the only consoles that truly excite me and give me truly amazing experiences (sans the PS2; that was an awesome console).
Developed and published by a company known for releasing games in a substandard state? CHECK
Massive Day 1 patch? CHECK
Early reports of launch issues including a major segment not working (multiplayer)? CHECK
Really, it's in no way surprising.
I am interested about FFXV and whether it will also suffer from FFXIII less than stellar universal reception. Or will time passed and enough differences between the two be enough?
These questions do seem to be kind of "loaded". I mean sure the evidence does seem to support that their decision not to include one. It's not a deal breaker for me because I mainly intend to buy a PS4 for just one game (may pick up a few more over time) but as a UHD Blu ray player it would have some added value. Although I stream a lot I do like to buy select films and series physically.
With thoughts (and only thoughts) that certain complex VR games may only work at their best on the PS4K (in my case Ace Combat 7) I'll be looking at this to see whether it'll be worth diving into the PS4 with this souped up model.
Definitely will be getting it on PS3. I've basically decided to begin a drawdown in my game collecting and plan to ride out the previous gen for as long as I can before possibly getting a PS4 when I have a reason to.
Besides, P4 came out for the PS2 more than 2 years after the PS3's release and it was amazing.
I was about to hang my head in shame at the thought that I was seeing the return of the juvenile days of the Nineties' Console War but at least the author redeemed himself later in the article.
Still, this all shows that online multiplayer has become such a integral part of gaming that having to pay extra for it is no longer deemed unacceptable.
Wouldn't surprise me if Ninty eventually jump into the bandwagon.

Re: Pre-Orders for Ace Combat 7 on PS4 Throw In Ace Combat 5 for Free
Razgriz truly has returned!
Now if only the recently announced Japanese Collector’s Edition comes westwards in all its glory!

Re: Gamescom 2018: Fly Away with 11 Minutes of Ace Combat 7 Gameplay
Every trailer and video makes me feel we’re finally heading back to the classic Ace Combat not seen since 2007’s Ace Combat 6.
Can’t wait for January.
Re: Gamescom 2018: Ace Combat 7 Flies to PS4, PSVR on 18th January
And here I thought it was gonna release the day before my wedding! Now just gotta buy me a copy, a PS4 and both Flightsticks.

Re: PSN Purchases Will Be Taxed in Some US States Starting 1st April
I see a sudden "influx" of users to certain States, in particular those who don't live in the U.S.

Re: Which PS4 Exclusive Is Zelda Producer Eiji Aonuma a Big Fan Of?
Well in terms of overall "spirit" there is a very slight connection between the two titles.
@Giygas_95 That was the title I was fearing he may say; but I had a feeling he'd go for something with a little more "whimsical charm".
Re: Store Update: 21st February 2017 (Europe)
Darn it, was excited about Y's Origin till I learnt its Vita release is not till May. Would have been a perfect long haul flight game for this week.

That's it, keep dropping. Bring similar drops to the UK then when the time is right I'll buy you....
Still buying a Switch at launch though.
Re: Interview: Flying High with Kazutoki Kono and Ace Combat 7 on PS4
This finally reappears my eventual reason for buying a PS4 (when it's released).

Re: Retro PS4 Releases Go Cheap in Massive European PlayStation Store Sale
Lots to check through when I get home but Gradius V is a must.
This always goes the same way, scroll through adding cheap bits to your basket until checkout and you see it ain't so cheap any more!
Re: Japanese Sales Charts: Tales of Berseria Plunders the Top Spot on PS4
Wish we were getting the PS3 version in the West.

Re: A New PS Vita Is on the Way? Don't Believe Everything You Read
Yeah I don't buy it either.
Although I'd love a Vita with the design of the newer model but with the OLED screen of the original.
Re: Square Enix Is Selling Japanese Voices for World of Final Fantasy as Special Edition DLC
Hmmm don't know whether to get the North American Limited Vita version for the mini art book or the Day 1 EU Vita version to make any DLC easier.
Of course I'm not surprised only PS4 players get the full whack; common across all but the most niche publishers.
Re: Dozens of Digital Games Discounted on EU PlayStation Store
Hope there are some nice PS3 / PSVita deals.
Re: Japanese Sales Charts: PS4 Refuses to Fall Despite Nintendo Software Dominance
Unless you combine all the 3DS models together, then it is edged into second by just approx 180 units.
Vita Minecraft also continues to shift units. Did we ever get a physical Vita release in Europe?
Re: Rise of the Tomb Raider PS4's Still Holed Up in Croft Manor
I wish they'd also port over the X360 port for the PS3; but that's probably a wishful stretch.
The X360 version is actually harder to find and tends to go for more on eBay.
Re: Gundam: Extreme VS-Force Blasts onto European Vitas in July
I'll be ordering the English-subbed Asian physical release; may then grab this when on a heavy sale of there is any DLC I want.

Re: Japan Votes for PlayStation's Most Memorable Games
@get2sammyb Oh your right, I missed that!
Was probably drawn to Valkyrie Chronicles just below it.
Re: Japan Votes for PlayStation's Most Memorable Games
Nice surprise to see Ace Combat 5 in the PS2 list! Personally I preferred Ace Combat Zero but AC5 did have the best and most memorable story.
@Stokesy657 Maybe Japanese gamers don't like foul mouthed little s***-stains?
Re: Rumour: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare PS4 to Feature Full Campaign and 10 Multiplayer Maps
For a while I thought it would have the campaigns of all 3 Modern Warfare games rolled into one.
Re: Uncharted 4 Will Score PlayStation's Largest Ever Marketing Campaign
You'd think such a big game of a well established series wouldn't need such a marketing campaign.
Then again, I do consider it the video gaming equivalent of a Hollywood Summer Blockbuster so a big marketing budget is a staple part of it.
